      From that part of the world, I like the Yellow Turban Rebellion. But I used that as a basis for one of my actually stories, so it felt weird to adapt it for a video here.

    You know.... A Joan de Arc character, a commoner who rises to power through a religious belief, could add a twist

    • @JustInTimeWorlds
      @JustInTimeWorlds  2 месяца назад +5

      Absolutely. Of course, it didn't end well for Joan herself. The Powers That Be hold a lot of cards. I played her once in George Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan in high school. Still remember the monologue: If, if, if. If ifs and ands were pots and pans, there'd be no need for tinkers. I tell you, Bastard, your art of war is no use, because your knights are no good for real fighting.
      And then it goes on for quite a while haha.

      @@JustInTimeWorlds could we implement speculative evolution into our fantasy worlds?

    • @JustInTimeWorlds
      @JustInTimeWorlds  2 месяца назад +3

      Of course, you're in the world builder. You can implement anything, including magic DNA mixing, or anything else. In my urban fantasy, my fairies procreate by entering a grove filled with fairy dust and giving up parts of themselves that are then mixed into a new being. They then grow back slightly different after each time they procreate.
      So, yeah, go wild :D

      @@JustInTimeWorlds in my mind, dragons are composite creatures that have genetic material from synapsids, sauropsids, basal reptiliomorphs, amphibians and actinopterygians.

      My dwarves are all male. They'll greco roman wrestle, and the loser gets shorn by the winner, that beard is then put in a pot next to the hearth, mixed with shavings of metal and stone chips, and alcohol, and tended to daily by the loser. This pile will eventually grow into a new dwarfling.

    This is a really good video, it reminds me of the good old RUclips days. I'd expect this level of insight to be paywalled behind Skillshare. Thank you so much for this in-depth critical thinking exercise.
    I admit I wasn't expecting much, just a bunch of historical events in a tier list that can be reskinned into plots. But this was So SO good for actually creating real integral plots!

    In my book, one of the main plot lines takes heavy inspiration from Caesar vs Pompey and the battle to control the Roman republic, both generals have a POV as they try to secure alliances and outwit the other on the battlefield.

    Question: @12:15 - who's the fourth son?
    Also, what if Clovis knew way in advance that his death would cause a chaotic power struggle? How about the "Clovis' curse" or the "whatever-name-that creature was" curse? there you go, you wanted consequences for power? every pack made with these creature will cause the curse to be activated upon the death of the signatory. Ofc those gems also extend life by a few decades.

    • @JustInTimeWorlds
      @JustInTimeWorlds  25 дней назад

      Clovis had a whole whack of children. I think I trimmed it down to 3 for the sake of the story. The full list is:
      Chlodomer
      Childebert I
      Chlothar I
      Clotilde
      Theuderic I
      His naming strategy seems to have been: ALL THE Cs! (oh and Theuderic. We don't talk about him)

    The tradition for the Merevigian royals to wear their hair long, combined with their strong ties to the Christian church, and upon defeat having their hair cut to symbolise their loss of power echoes the Biblical story of Samson.

    • @JustInTimeWorlds
      @JustInTimeWorlds  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, it does have an echo, but they had long hair thing even as pagans (before the conversion to Christianity), so it might be a case of convergent cultures.
      That being said, if I was writing the story, it would DEFFO have impact and be built into the world as a central religious myth and ALL THE THINGS haha.
      History can be wishy washy about these links, but in a story, those links are parts that make the story feel solid and the world real.
