    I love the original rubber "strips" where the bonnet ( hood ) sits down on the main car body. You can see them in the wheel arches front. Very nice touch from 67. I was 22 years old and in love with Etypes.

    Boy, does these pics bring back VERY good memories; only mine was a 1962 3.8 E-Type Coupe in BRG (British Racing Green),
    tan interior with chrome plated wire wheels and Pirelli Cinturato tires and for 6+ years it was the love of my life!
    I was driving home from work in my old 1958 TR2, it was pouring cats and dogs out and I passed this small car lot that had
    two E-Types for sale, a red Convertible and the Coupe. Bottom line, I bought the Coupe 30 minutes later for $2,950.00.......What a deal!

    "Be still my beating heart", this is how my '70 series 2 came to me in 1978, it had around only 40K original miles and apart from a few "normal" little electrical faults courtesy of old Joe Lucas was a lovely original example. Thanks Richard for sharing that, we'd be interested to know what price it made at auction.

    • @garthlundquist8316

      Henry Zenke I believe the adjacent car is an XK 140 DHC ( drop head coupe). The 140 had a slightly bigger cabin, much heavier duty bumpers, better steering and cooling among other improvements. The engines were higher spec 3.4 liter. I have seen 140’s fitted with the Laycock de Normanville overdrive behind the Moss non syncro first gearbox. The 140 hits the sweet spot for me, looking almost as good as the 120 but being a better driving car. The later XK 150’s were heavier and lost the purity of line to my eye. I have been fortunate to own and drive several examples of each series. The Drophead Coupes are the rarest and had a thick quality soft top that did a good job of keeping the weather away. The roll up windows and vent windows were deluxe touches back in the day.

  • @2mikelim
    @2mikelim 3 года назад

    Wow. Tinted windows too! Even in the UK this model didn't have tinted glass, only in the last models I think. I spose this was done to fit into the American market which had glass tint since the 49 Cadillac, and would appear an oddball on American streets with plain glass.

    Richard, love your videos, awesome as usual. I have seen many many vin plates from that era, including my 64 and 63 parts car. I believe that vin plate is a re-stamp as it is too new looking and the numbers do not look right. Also the spare tire differs in the tread pattern from four tires and rims I recovered from a 67 that were definitely original. I have a photo. Keep up the good work.

    Astonishing, thank you Richard, so valuable that you now have a video record of how they looked new in early 1967. Didn't the series 1A come out in '67? No glass covers over the headlights and rocker switches instead of toggle (levers). My late 70 series 2 was red untiI I took it through a car wash, which turned the colour red/orange, so I resprayed it in my driveway...that series 1 has to be worth a million, because of its low mileage and absolute originality...imho...

    • @gazzafloss
      @gazzafloss 5 лет назад

      What we called the Series one and a half E-Type here in Australia, arrived I think in 1968, it had lost the clear headlight covers and moved the headlights forward. I thought the "rocker" type switches were series 2, along with a further move forward of the headlights and the "underslung" tail and front parking lights.

    • @philhohnen6193
      @philhohnen6193 5 лет назад

      @@gazzafloss : I think you're wrong about the 1.5 E-type. I've seen many original '67 1.5s with rocker switches but the series 1 tail lights....the series2 was introduced, from memory, in '68, probably many 1.5 were sold then too...the series 2 had the headlights moved forward with a chromed moulding above, and tail lights under the bumpers...the final series 2 E-types were sold in Australia, discounted with paint instead of chrome on some body mouldings and on wheels...

    • @BOOMER9196

      The shift knob looks like the Amco accessory knob. Original is a simple black ball with the shift pattern in white.

Soft top header missing some bits as well. Curious how engine bay is presented. Off hand would imagine non-original finish on some panels...likely once again liberal use of flat/matte black paint.
