Steve Duckworth and Paul Lawler did a pretty good job emulating the style Stewart Copeland pioneered for Spyro with the acoustic guitars, drums, and fantasy infused elements. A Hero's Tails songs are a bit more electronic compared to Copeland's more classical orchestral-styled progressive rock.
Actually Steve Duckworth wasn't a composer on this game. Paul Lawler was though, alongside Keith Leary, David Marsden, and Craig Sharmat. They composed music at a studio called Game Audio Ltd. which has provided music services for several games, primarily licensed games like Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Stuart Little 2. If you listen closely you can actually hear some of the same string, brass, and flute samples used in the soundtracks for Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Stuart Little 2.
it's cool since the acoustic guitar samples here are the same ones from the original trilogy :] not to be confused with the dulcimer interspersed in this track
Actually, there exists an original OST for Hero's Tail that was a lot more in-line with Copeland's style, but it was rejected. I think you can find the album for download too.
