I met her when I was a child in the corridors of the Grainan Aileach hotel where she was playing and she was lovely, just lovely to us kids. Never forgot her
God may rest your gentle heart Bridie you were one of the best, there will never be a Bridie Gallagher again, met you in Boston in 1959 always remember you in my prayers, Rest in peace Bridie.
I well remember my Childhood in the late 50s -early 60s in North Leitrim. My family somehow accuired a radio that received Radio Luxemburg as clear as a bell! . We lived next door to a hugely popular pub, and every Saturday night the whole clientele would refresh their pints and gather around our front door. for 'Irish Requests' It was a sponsored progamme that only lasted 15 minutes, but The planet Mars would have heard the chorus, when Bridie crooned 'the homes of Donegal' or 'County of Armagh' etc. Happy memories ideed!
GOD REST U BRIDIE, UR IN PEACE ABOVE MAY U SINCERELY REST IN PEACE, I WORKED WITH NEPHEW PADDY YEARS AGO AND HE DIDNT THINK I KNEW THE SONGBIRD, SURE I DID, AND BETTER STILL SANG THE SONGS MY MOTHER SANG TO ME
What a wonderful lady, she used to top the bill at the Empire in Inverness in Scotland, doing a friday night midnight matinee on everyone of her visits. I worked with her there and she was fun both on and off stage. A great hit with the people of Inverness, where she played many times.
God Rest Bridie until we meet again in Heaven Sure on Earth you were a great singer, I am awaiting to hearing U in heaven singing away, espeaciallu the Green Glens of Antrim, sure an oul Country that did u no harm a tall. God rest Girl, P x
when did bridie die? she was from the three counties, wasn't she? then she went to live in the six counties! i think eileen donaghy did the opposite - not sure! both were lovely singers. and, anyway, teer connell is themost sung-about county in ireland, is it not? god, our oldest province produced so much quality ... ruby murray, stephen boyd, may fetteridge, clodagh rodgers, brendan o'dowda ... the list is endless. now, how many southerners know thenameof our oldest province? ask them!!
Thanks Bridie for the beautiful songs you sang with your sweet lovely voice. You were the sound -track of my youth.
We who heard you sing on the radio in our long lost youth will cherish your memory forever.

She was one my favorites
This is the same cemetery my Grandad (Eddie Heraghty) is getting buried in today (23rd March 2022)
She looked like a great woman/Republican/person. And a great example to the younger generation. Sleep well. Sister. TAL32
