6:20 the 3+3 arrangement is typical for 1st and 2nd class. You found an even lower 8 seater version. In Hungary and a few other countries they are still popular in domestic traffic.
3+3 already seems like too much 😅 8 seats is _way_ too much IMO :D It was nice when we finally "splurged" on Regiojet for their "business" class 2x2 cabins
Hey there! Thanks for documenting your journey. I am researching making this exact trip via train 2 months from now. Did you ever figure out if the train - bus - train detour was just due to construction/detours, or if that is the normal operation going from Zagreb to Budapest?
Sorry for the delay here. Hope you had a great trip. This should definitely have been resolved by the time you took it. Please let me know if that was the case. Cheers!
For the last few years, there is a big reconstruction of the railways in Croatia. This is one of the main European corridors, so the whole stretch from Zagreb (actually, Dugo Selo) to Hungarian border was/is under (re)construction. At the time of writing, the stretch from Koprivnica to Hungarian border (not a big stretch) will be closed for a week, IIRC. So from time to time some of the parts of this railway may be closed for a longer or shorter period of time. Get informed well before you plan you trip! Unfortunately, it will take some more time, because the part from Dugo Selo to Križevci has hardly been touched yet in some places.
9 hours to travel 300km, that sounds like Stone Age times.... both Croatia and Hungary are so damn backwards! That should be no longer than 2 hours , MAXIMUM! God bless speed trains in China. Beijing to Shanghai 1100 km in 4 hours by train!
Yes, quite insane. There was some work being done that greatly disrupted it (should be resolved now), but I agree! Most people don't understand how incredible the trains in China are. And, thanks to China, places like Indonesia are getting great HSR, too!
Looking back it was okay, but was really, really unhappy at the time. It was definitely the single worst day of the trip, which is probably a pretty fortunate thing tbh

I’ll gladly go through that to go to Budapest! 😆
😆 very, very fair point!

OMG....that feels scary!!!

Actually, all those detours were fine until that Hungary local train. The heat killed me
+ the worst border crossing. That first night in Budapest was also horrible. This travel day made the Budapest to Prague travel day a breeeeze
Price?
of the train? Looks like it was $32 for 2
Two bad travel experiences in 5 months is not bad.
I totally agree. Our flight home wasn't terrible either
Entirely too entertaining. What else could go wrong????
🤣 it prepared us to be prepared for anything on future travel days. Looking back it's _almost_ funny 😅
