    Glad to see you made it to Ruby, I live down the road a spell from it. This part of AZ is fascinating in so many ways. Back in the 1800s, the Cavalry used to patrol out here to keep an eye on the Apaches. When they would see the natives, they would try and chase them down and the Apaches would just disappear and the Calvary would be stupified. Come to find out that the Apache knew about a cave system in the local hills and would do a ride and hide. The bigger mystery is that no one knows who dug those caves, they have been there for eons and go for miles and miles

    Delaware Punch is a fruit-flavored soft drink. Its formula uses a blend of fruit flavors, with grape (Methyl anthranilate) being the most prominent. It was not carbonated, and was caffeine-free. Originally invented in 1913 in San Antonio, Texas, it is now made by the Coca-Cola Company & sold only in very limited areas of 2 states. There you go Sara.

    The radio is a transmitter, possibly arc-5 , used in military aircraft during WW-II. It was a modular unit that permitted quick exchange if repairs were needed. There was a companion unit that was a receiver, roughly the same size and shape. There were many hundreds of them on the surplus market following WW-II.

    That "radio" you found in the school house is a military radio that apparently covers frequencies from 7 - 9 Mhz. (back then it was Mega Cycles. Not sure what that particular radio was used for in that ghost town but it looks like one of the radios that was installed in aircraft because the frequency it's set on is an aviation frequency. No telling what type of aircraft was used back in the 30s. The dial also shows the 40 meter band which is between 7.000 - 7.300 Mhz. I'm an Amateur radio operator (Ham radio) and certainly wish I could get my hands on that "Vintage" piece of radio gear! Those tubes shows it may had been used as a transmitter. I'm also a piano tuner and the keys you're tickling is sorta "flat" in pitch. You're right in needs some much loving care!

    @Meme-zc4cw 3 года назад +18

    Fun fact; this part of AZ was very much what you would consider the "wild west" or "old west" well into the 1930s. Where most other parts of the country were progressing into modernity, AZ and NM (and parts of NV) were stuck in the 1800s in many ways. Largely it was due to geography and climate. It was the last to be settled. In fact, even in the 1930s it was not unusual for miners or ranchers to be attacked by Apaches crossing the border from Mexico. History says the Apaches surrendered in 1886 at Skeleton Canyon but most don't realize there were holdouts that continued to live in the mountains of Mexico. They were called the Bronco Apaches. Most of them were from Geronimo's band. They lived and thrived until the late 1930s. Some believe there are decendants still up in the mountains of northern Mexico and even Cochise County. Who knows, I would think by now they would have been discovered, so I doubt it is true. They hunted, travelled by horseback, and raided ranches and mining towns in Southern AZ and SW NM until around 1938 or '39. There are numerous books on the Bronco Apaches that are well worth your time if you are interested in AZ history. It still amazes me that during a time where the rest of the country is driving cars, has running water, organized law enforcement and electricity, you still have places such as this.

      @Galiuros 3 года назад +2

      @@gordbaker896 Wall? That's funny. It wouldn't have done any good then and hasn't done any good now. Plus, it's not needed. The desert is a natural barrier because it kills people and besides, almost all illegal border activities happen at or around border checkpoints. Also, crossing the border without proper paperwork is a misdemeanor and hardly warrants spending billions of dollars to stop it. As we say here in southern Arizona, Build a 20 foot tall wall and somebody will build a 21 foot ladder.

    • @gordbaker896

      @@gordbaker896 It would have been difficult for a horse to get over a 20' wall but then, like now, any wall would have been defeated. The desert kills hundreds of crossers a year. One thing to know about the law in a lot of States. When you brake the law you can be held criminally responsible for all the bad consequences of that crime. So if you rob a bank and someone dies of an heart attack in that bank robbery, you can be charge with murder. Or if a police officer dies in a car crash while in hot pursuit after you, you can also be charge with murder. The logic is those persons would not have died if you didn't commit your crime in the first place.

    Cool beans! Larry would've loved it too. That rusty old box was an antenna matching transformer for a radio transmitter. Just imagine how handy amateur radio "hams" would be in such a remote place. Did you ask if there were any reported "ghost sightings"?
    Actually, the most realistic threats concerning using those toilets would come from snakes (etc) coming to visit while you "sat and reflected" Thanks Sarah Jane..

    I don't recall "braids in the ink well" on Little House, and I am a Little House geek. There was an episode where one of the boys dumped the ink in the teacher's satchel (the mean, male teacher that was supposed to keep the boys in line) and blamed it on Laura.
    On Little House, students used slate and pencils. Pencils and paper.

    Visiting these very isolated places is so much more interesting after living in a period of 'mandatory' isolation. It makes me think that maybe I could get used to rarely seeing other people.

      Exactly I believe anyone could Get along without much human interaction it’s just like people I’ve been around humans for so long that they assume that’s what they need to do and they cry wolf when they don’t have human interaction because they feel that’s necessary in life when in fact if they did deep soul-searching they would find that they didn’t need people around them whatsoever and they could live on their own in a remote location without ever being found and probably spend the rest of the year is out in that said Location
