Being a member of the Marching 100, I've had my opportunities to see and hear the Southern U Band. From my 1st experience with the SU Band (1977, Tampa, FL) I had nothing but respect and admiration for one of the few bands to realistically be considered a "rival" of the '100. I also realized that behind the organization stood a great leader. Not having known him personally, but knowing what it took to create an organization the caliber of the "Human Jukebox", I knew that the leader had qualities that were very similar to those exhibited by our great leader, "The Law", Dr. William P. Foster. I could not have the respect for Dr. Foster without admiring and respecting those whose accomplishments in the HBCU music world were just as important to their respective environments. Having worked closely with several SU Alum, I understood that the qualities exhibited by our organization were qualities that were also being demonstrated all across this country and yes even in Jaguar Land :-) All this said, Dr. Isaac Greggs had to be a great Band Director, a great musician, but most importantly, a great man. May his jukebox never be silenced and his reign never go unheralded. "Hubba Doc Greggs"
