She got the nickname "ice princess" because she used to be very quiet, since she didn't know a lot of Korean coming over from China, and she would show most of her emotions through her facial expressions. Her hiatus was basically to make her more confident, and it has really shown, she's become such a force to be reckoned with. If you couldn't tell, she is my personal bias haha. And her name is Dong, but the members call her dongie and dong dong usually. Her last name is Han, so they just combined both to make her stage name. she's ridiculous, and we love our savage cat!
han and dong are combined bc in china, if both ur names have one syllable, then the rule is to mix them together I believe
Well, not her 'last' name, but her Family name is Han. Dong is her personal name.
@@eleventhcassette there is no such rule. Her name should actually be written as Han Dong. They (probably) stuck the 2 characters/syllables together since all the other members use 2 syllable names in DC.

OT7 all the way. Dongie wasn't around when I got in Dreamcatcher but after she came back, and I got to know her better, she's just as awesome as the other members. They each have their own color but they're all so charismatic and likeable.
I love all of them! they all have their quirky personalities and I they are amazing!
If you watch the recent vlogs from the US tour, Handong is absolutely the queen of every "dreamcatcher's note" video. She has such a confident, brash personality and she has the driest and and most savage sense of humor in the group. She is the current #1 threat to my Siyeon bias.

Her (Chinese) name is Han Dong, Han is actually her last name🤣I think it was a good call to not give her the stage name Dong but they call her Dongie (especially Yoohyeon) or DongDong, and in Korean it doesn't matter anyway. At the very beginning she was still learning Korean and was already that savage but now she's more fluent than the rest of the members lol. Also the time on Youth with You helped her being way more confident on stage but everyone is still glad she finally got back for Odd Eye. She is such a gem in many ways!
Also I think the name ice princess is relatively new, maybe for BEcause blonde hair? But it's funny there was "princess" already in the guide. Might have developed from just princess though, I'm not sure.
yeah i think the ice part is bc of how savage she is. also her solo being called 'winter' helps lol
@@eleventhcassette Her name Dong means 'East', but is also a Homonym for 'WInter', also, her family name Han is also a homonym for Cold/Frigid, so the Hanja/Chinese title for Winter actually means Cold Winter.

@@Zz7722zZ oh yeah right forgot that. It's actually a really pretty name and upon quick Google search Dong can also mean a certain breed of a Dahlia flower? But obviously that would depend on the actual Hanja signs.
@@eleventhcassette I honestly don't know when it was coined but I remember that it came around about the time of these clips for Summer Holiday. My theory is that princess was a joke and also a counter-part to SuA's queen (Gahyeon sometimes referred to herself as princess too). And then, or even without that, she had that very light gorgeous blonde hair and was so cool in that summer comeback. For me personally that's when the name stuck bc it fit so perfectly with her visuals.
Handong is just awesome, she’s one of the members I truly think I could be friends with. She’s silly and funny but also pretty chill, poised, has a dry sense of humour and seems to have a bit of a rebellious streak in her (became an idol when her parents were against it, has been wilding on stage knowing her parents are watching and being like “oops sorry” when her parents are like girl omg our eyes 😂). Everyone in Dreamcatcher has a soft spot for her and they were over the moon when she came back to Korea. Her confidence has really shown as she’s become more proficient with speaking Korean and expressing herself more. She’s the only one who can get away with being too cheeky with Sua 😂 And not to mention she’s just totally stunning, she could easily be a model, she doesn’t take a bad photo!
I loooove her dry sense of humor! I also would love to be friends with all of them 🤣 I feel like it would just be a great time!
handong, dami and yoohyeon are my bias line so i'm excited to see the next 2 as well. they're gems

FUN FACT: Dongie was already studying in Korea when her professor suggested that she should audition and that's how she ended up getting accepted and became a member of Dreamcatcher. Also, she has adopted the surname Kim. She calls herself Kim Handong, the other members call her Kim Handong , and on variety shows, they also know her as Kim Handong! 😊

She promised her dad that she wouldn't become an idol, that's why he let her go to school in Korea, but after she got into DC, they had no choice but to support her and just let her pursue her dream. 😃
yea i even heard her parents told her NOT to do it and she did it anyways. just like how i heard her parents (or her just her mom i can't remember) told her not to bleach her hair blonde and she did it anyways. dongie is funny
@@faeraindrops ...and of course her parents would be overprotective with her being the only child and all, but it's also nice to see that they let her have freedom to choose her path as well despite their objections in the beginning and that they didn't just pull her out of DC when she was struggling abt her confidence and lack of lines before joining YWY. Now, she's better than ever and her parents should be proud of what she's accomplished since.

Han Dong has actually introduced herself as 'DreamCatcher's Ice Princess' on at least one occasion. Her Spirit Animal is a Cat, which actually makes sense the way her attitude goes. She's shy but witty and can be funny and snarky. Always adorable. :)

JiU: The Rabbit apparently represents charisma...she has that coming out of every one of her pores so I think it's accurate.
SuA: She USED to have an Elephant as an emoji but she changed it, not exactly sure why. It is now the Crow-Tit. I have no idea about this besides that it is some species of small bird. I would have called her something else that is incredibly energetic, like a Hummingbird would fit her better IMO. I mean, she could give the Energizer Bunny a run for his money.
Siyeon: Everybody knows her as the Wolfie. I think it is mainly for her eyes and the focus she can give.

I'm so glad I'm doing these videos! I feel like she was the one I knew the least about. But she is lovely and amazing!!!
Handong's real name is Han Dong. Han is her surname. Dong is her given name. When they are attaching the 'ie' sound at the end of her name, it is a term of endearment in Korean culture. You will other members call Yoohyeon, 'Yoohyeon-ie' or 'Gahyeon-ie' for Gahyeon, whenever they are addressing them affectionately. I hope that explains it.
Side note: Handong is Chinese, and her given name is Dong. Given her culture, her family probably will call her 'Dong Dong' or less likely 'Xiao'dong'. Xiao means little, somewhat, and is used for a younger person you are close with in China, i.e. younger siblings, cousins, etc. I do not know which if either, but these would be the 2 most common ways she would be addressed by her family.

Dong Dong! She hit me hard when she returned in Odd Eye.. and sometime between Odd Eye and BEcause she became my wrecker of wreckers. But I have recently decided that despite my love for Siyeon and Dami as a Singbin bias and my JiBo bias wrecking, I am also a Handong simp..
She is a savage and she is the only one who does not get the violence of SuA.. even when she does or says something that would get violence for SuA. She my not be an ice princess in terms of her being shy, the ice princess now is just how elegant she is and she is an introvert. I find that Dongie is very much a cat- wants attention when she wants it and not when others demand it, can be playful and silly, but also independent. I love her little jumps. I love her singing voice.. so elegant. There are so many memes you can make with Handong.. though that can be said for all of them.. She is part of the “calm” most the time with Dami. She, Jiu and Dami recently ate Hot Pot on the new Mukbang content that JiU is doing on the channel. And seeing the dynamic with those three was fun.
I always say the Dong that left for China to do Youth with You is not the same that came back as the one that returned has the vocal, dance and stage confidence that the pre- scream Handong sometimes lacked. I am sure the not knowing much Korean and being in a new place caused some of that confidence issues, but I love confident Dong. Though, she still struggles with Korean at times.. they all do. Insomnicy does have a few videos dedicated to that- 2 with Handong vs Korean language and at least one with DC vs Korean language. There is also Handong being the favorite child.

When DC went onto Weverse, Handong used a picture from before she went to China. At that time, the picture could not be altered. Since then she has been able to change her profile picture on Weverse.

Holding this pain is probably one of the most famous lyrics in dreamcatcher songs(deja vu) and is sang by handong. Dongie use to be quite shy. After she came back from china, u see her confidence just shoot up. And i love it so much .Yup ot7 for the win! And thanks for your reaction!

As far as her name goes, Han Dong is her full name, but she combines it to form a single word--Handong, which is used more like a first name (like Yoohyeon, Siyeon, Gahyeon, etc...) and is used as her official introduction. Dong, Dongie or Dongdong is more like a nickname and is only used to address her by her members and close friends. As I've said also on my other comment below, she adopted Kim as her Korean surname as we can see her members calling her Kim Handong during their vlogs and other bts stuff. Another fun fact is that Dreamcatcher r all either Kims or Lees--Kim Bora (SuA), Kim Minji (JiU), Kim Yoohyeon and now Kim Handong. The Lees r Lee Siyeon, Lee Yubin (Dami) and Lee Gahyeon. 😊
