Update: Robert is 33 now. Robert now travels the world performing his act in all different types of live shows all over the world and currently works with Crazy Horse in Paris and is working on his 'new contortion number' and putting together 'a few comedy acts for future festivals'. Robert travels back and forth between Los Angeles and Paris and working as an international freelance entertainer.
I have never forgotten this performance, and if I was one of the judges I would’ve not stopped it neither. It was that good and entertaining, and it is still.

My gosh, he was Amazing!!!! I don't know how they could even look away for a moment, there was so much talent and intricate moves every second. Still amazing all these years later, and the moves are timeless..

I still show this in my classroom every year. We talk about talent vs. training, and how there is really NO limit to achievement if one has dedication and a love / passion for what they do. Muraine was my ultra-favorite and still is. I remember watching TV and seeing an IKEA commercial, and THERE HE WAS! I immediately went on to RUclips and found it, and watched it 50 more times.
Love, passion, and dedication won't get you anywhere if you don't have the resources(namely time and money) to apply them. Unfortunately, within the current socio-economic state, few if any of those you teach will have those resources for themselves.

For anyone interested. Majority of his set is Isolations, Waving and Tutting. A small amount of Popping and he never did any Locking. Also "Pop Locker" isnt really a thing in the community. Still a really good demonstration of a bunch of different styles 👍

I think (and I know that i could be wrong) Popping is not a good name for the style because is not actually based on "pop" technique. This is a confusion due the name that emerges with the Electric Boogaloos. Yes, pop is a characteristic, but waving is part of the style with isolations, tutting, scarecrow, etc. Pop lockers did "the robot" too with muscular tension control, isolations, dime stop technique... There is a discussion about how to name all the style. Boogaloo? Popping? Waving is another style then? What about that "umbrella concept"? Is Animation Poppin too?
@@EG-cs3wv theres definitely a lot of easy naming mix ups that can happen and its by no means easy to categorize things. Best bet is to find/get in touch with any of OG's who are still around and they are more than willing to clear things up for people interested in it. Popping, waving, tutting, breaking, locking, chicago footwork, boogaloo and animation are all different styles. The scarecrow concept falls under popping. Honestly theres too much depth to even begin to cover in a youtube comment section 😅
Usually when you go back and watch an old youtube video you watched like 15 years ago - its never as impressive as when you first seen it. This is an exception.
A lot of people find the middle judge annoying. But, I think her laughter is funny as heck! Also, I love how they just keep letting him go, even when it seem like it ended at 2:10

Just in case someone else hasn't pointed this out since 2008 (i'd imagine someone has), Pop Locking is not a dance. There's Popping and there's Locking. This guy is Popping. And he's really good.

I actually commented that he was really good at popping. Maybe he's a phenomenal locker, be he's not locking in this video. The one thing I can say with certainty is that he's not a Pop Locker, because Pop Lockers only exist in the minds of those who don't take the time to educate themselves to the fact that they are 2 different dance styles. =)
Robert Freakin Muraine. AKA Mr Fantastic. I remember briefly after his stint on this show I watched nearly all of his videos I could find of him either street performing or doing dance battles. His style is incredibly unique. I hope he's doing well. When he finally came face to face with Phillip "Pacman" Chbeeb it was iconic. If this is your first time watching this, I definitely recommend watching all of his videos on this show, as well as Phillip's all the way to their dance battle.
Someone said to me couple days back, I found a Tiktok guy who can dance like a robot, and I just let them see this vid from back in the time I was their age. This was the genius and for me the first Robot dance on youtube. Great to see he still doing great stuff!

Yea you're right no locking involved, but it's not just popping either. There is some robot, waving, bone breaking, animation, tutting, as well as popping. All packaged in this routine. Maybe some other styles I haven't mentioned but that's all I know of so far.

I was crushed he left the show but I think he made a choice that was good for him. He is brilliant at what he does but he also knew he was not going to do as well with the other styles of dance. Robert will always be one of my favorite dancers ever.
