Actually there's no need for a button mashing for certain enemies. That female viking that you shown dies after single throw or a leg drop and extra hit. There is a different approach for almost every enemy.
Great review, you pretty much nailed everything I was looking for before picking this one up. As someone that loved the show and never got to play the original I'll sadly let this one rest and spare myself the anger. Thanks for saving me the time and money. Keep up the good work
Man, that is one derpy looking run cycle. I remember renting this for Genesis because I was a fan of the show, and Genesis games had slowed to a trickle by the time it was released. It was certainly better than the Deep Space Nine game, but it felt less like a game and more of a headstone for the Genesis as an actively supported console. This is what you'll be getting from now on, if you get anything at all.
I also wish they had just made a new game. The original doesnt stand on its own. I think Gargoyles has enough substance to really work with. Helll i think a change in genre was needed. Gargoyles being so lore heavy would work fantastically as a Tactical RPG
I doubt it. Disney hasn't been interested in Gargoyles since they got it cancelled. Peele even tried to bring it back with his new filmmaker cred and Disney wouldn't bite. They created Gargoyles to be their Marvel but ... They've since bought marvel so ...
Oh god that menu is tragic haha. When I played this game originally, I didn't mind it too much but the biggest thing is the awful audio for attacking and hits. It's not satisfying for the reasons you mentioned. I could forgive almost everything else but that was what killed it for me.

Really should have been dlc for the Disney afternoon or classics collection. Good game and the remade graphics are good. But it has no extras, no bonus content and as you said even the menu is basic.
You didn't seem to be using the grab function on the shielded enemies. B button. Only thing I wished this game had was weapons as you progressed but to me it's a good one, and getting the original included makes it work its current cheap sales price.

I just started playing it and it is so hard. It took forever to get past the first stage. I did it and found that grabbing enemies made it a little easier but jumping so far has been the worst part. I bought the game because of watching the show for the first time and loving it, but I hope it gets better.😅

Rewind doesn't make it any easier, just means you have more chances to fail because of the difficulty. If it's taking me 3-4 rewinds just to make one measly jump, it's pretty hard.
