Ooh this is so interesting. I guess the UK equivalent to your jelly (made with juice) could be a preserve? In the UK a preserve looks like jam but much more liquid
I didn’t realize I’d be so passionate about this. Firstly, your Reuben looks divine. I also second another commenter who suggested using pastrami, but your salted beef looks incredible similar to deli style corned beef slices. (We also have corned beef in a can, but the difference is if you say “deli corned beef.”) As you have more mortadella left, try that with the swiss cheese and a darker, more hearty mustard. That’s how I grew up eating a bologna sandwich. You can can pan fry an egg, put that inside, hold the lettuce, and make a grilled cheese style breakfast sandwich that’s crispy on the outside and super tasty inside.

One thing you can try with an average sandwich like ham and cheddar to make it more American is: put some chips (or british crisps) on the sanwich before putting the other slice of bread on top. The nice crunch when pressing down on the sandwich and the added saltiness from my personal choice: salt and vinegar, is so good. A good portion of people also use chips on a Bologna sandwich as well. I promise its good. Its at least worth a try once.
Dude, you have got to eat the sandwich. I want to hear those crispy crunch biting and chewing sounds. Your videos make me so hungry. Traditionally, a ruben sandwich is made with dark rye or pumpernickel bread. As for the bologna sandwich in my house, we always made it on rye bread, mustard potato chips (crisps), and American cheese. One of my fondest memories is eating bologna sandwiches after playing outside in the snow all day. And dipping the sandwich into hot, cocoa and eating it. It tastes wonderful.
Can safely say i have never dipped a sandwich in hot cocoa! if you like the eating sounds i did upload me trying the 3 sandwiches, I'll make sure to include it in the same video next time :)
I’m absolutely jealous of how big and wide the slices of bread are in the UK, ours in the states are very tiny slices. In the states we pronounce it baloney, my favorite way to eat it is to fry the baloney and melt a piece of cheese on top then put it on the bread. I was born and raised in the states but I eat more like someone from the UK😂 On my dad’s side it’s mainly British so maybe that’s where I get it from. I just subbed to your channel 😊

It's really yummy and tastes good on English muffins too. :) It's not standard at all, but it is my favorite! Any flavor of jelly, jam, etc. will do for these tbh, sandwiches are highly customizable
the real kicker for your PB&J is to add some nacho cheese Doritos onto the sandwich if you’re brave enough! It’s truly delicious in my opinion! It’s a perfect sweet and salty mix, with the jelly, peanut butter and nacho cheese combo!
That's because there are 2 different bolognas. The city in Italy, which is the style of mortadella he bought (so not actually American bologna but still a tasty deli meat). And bologna in America is the deli meat that's basically a super thick hotdog sliced thin
Oh definitely not!! PB&J does not need to be made with grape jelly 😊 I personally love peanut butter with raspberry preserves. We have jelly, jam, preserves and marmalade. Preserves are my favorite, because it’s thicker and it has the seeds in the raspberry, lol. You did a fantastic job with this!! I have only watched the peanut butter sandwich so far, but I’m here for the rest of it! I’m also a new subscriber, and your voice is so relaxing ❤️ Thank you! For me, PB&J is more a concept of a sandwich, rather than a specific ruleset. I use peanut butter and peach preserves usually, and the only mechanical difference is that I put the preserves on top of the peanut butter, but that's purely preference.

tip with the pb&j pb on both breads so the jelly doesn’t soak through! very impressive nevertheless. my british wife was appalled when i (us citizen) offered our son a pb&j for his tea one night 😂
The biggest difference between sandwiches in the UK v. sandwiches in the US is that we typically cut our sandwiches on the diagonal (triangles). Also, with the bologna sandwich, where I am from in the US (Appalachia) we usually fry the bologna in a skillet before putting it onto the sandwich and only use mustard and maybe a slice of American cheese on it. 🙂
Also, normally we don't put salt on our bologna because American bologna is salty enough on its own. Plus, the bologna we usually buy at the grocery store or at the deli is much thicker sliced than the mortadella, so its not only easier to fry, but again, its also more sodium than the thinly sliced deli meats.
This was great. Now that you have constructed your own PB & J, how do you think crunchy peanut butter would have been? In the US, there is a divide between smooth peanut butter and crunchy on PB&Js. If you aren’t familiar, crunchy just means there are crushed peanut pieces in it (as opposed to a course grind; which gives a weird gritty texture). Personally, crunchy peanut butter makes a PB&J way more interesting because it adds a texture to something so soft. I’d give it a go, if you’ve gotten the taste for PB&Js. Personally, I treat mine as peanut butter vessels and use the jelly to cut through all the fatty texture and mouthfeel of the PB. Some people like 50/50 distribution, but I think my ratio is more like 70/30. Also, increase the pb amount while keeping things balanced by spreading pb on both sides of the bread and then put a thin jam layer between them. Love the content!
