To be fair, having voted for option 4 myself, I would totally revise that decision after having seen the AT table more closely during this video.
Yes, it looks nice, but I won't change my vote for the more traditional tt. I guess part of me still hankers after a Linn LP12.
Totally agree! I voted with the majority for the X2, but seeing more than just a thumbnail, I’m kinda in love with this thing!
I’ve got a Marantz TT-15 S1 which is a similar aesthetic, but this just takes it to another level altogether!!
@@richardsinger01 I agree with you completely. In fact, earlier in the year I found a beautiful 1990 vintage LP12 which now sits proudly at the top of my analogue rig. Admittedly, I’ve spent more on some parts to upgrade it but cosmetically, to my eyes, it’s more classy than any of the options. You don’t have to sell a child to own a Linn, there are so many brilliant examples out there at virtually any budget.
I have one. Not only does the LP2022 look spectacular, it sounds spectacular.
have you had any start issues on either speed ?
I got one of the last ones in Australia. It traveled from Perth to Bendigo, right across Australia.
I’m very happy!
Just got mine yesterday, hopefully should be setting it up in the week-end.
I love the way this one looks, I got mine and it really does sound better than I expected...
I set mine up today. I love it.
This type of review is another reason why I subscribe to your channel. You show genuine enthusiasm when you find a new audio component and then list the devices performance and esthetics in a way that is I think balanced. You have done this for high end turntables, speakers, amplifiers, DACs and even Raspberry PI streamers! So great to see enthusiasm balanced with acceptance of different viewpoints. Also I think that you new series of do it yourself videos seem more personal which I find to be an improvement over former edited videos. Live long and prosper! Thanks
In this price range, it is definitely one of the most interesting looking turntables I've seen. I was considering a u-turn Theory, but I'm going to give this a shot first. Thanks for the info. I always find your video's useful & interesting.
WENT AND ORDERED ONE WHILE WATCHING THIS VIDEO, WAS ABLE TO GET ONE. THANK YOU
Love this. Love the look of it too! Brilliant
Yep. I love it as much as the Clearaudio Emotion SE, the Vertere White DG 1S and the MG1, Marantz TT-15S1 Turntable and their ilk. Very modernist.
John, I really appreciate your straightforward style and your honesty. And, clearly you are not simply following the whims and desires of your readers or if yours. Keep up the good work!
Oh, and FWIW, I no longer play vinyl but if I did, I would be salivating over that turntable. Nicely done Audio Technica.
Yep, totally caught FOMO ... saw it on your website Thursday morning, loved the looks and knew I wanted to try the swappable headshell, and bought it 10 minutes later. It's shipping on 11/18.
Very thankful i watched this video 2 days before its launch in Japan so i could set an alarm for the drop. It got sold out online at audio technica jp site within 2 mins of drop. I am glad i got 1 set. Now i need a video on how to operate one lol
I want one and I don't even have any vinyl. I'd have to track down some clear pressings to go with it.
Well done. All round turntable. I look forward to having one soon.
Just got it !! Very nice turntabke and very good sound !!
Good Review. Well done. Thanks
If turntable manufactures are producing new designs, then it usually means business is doing well with a market healthy enough to support their investment into a new product. Which is good news for us vinyl users. I wish them success.
I think that it is a great looking deck John! I have Michell Gyrodec which also has a unique aesthetic. Incidentally the Gyrodec also has an acrylic cover and base which for those that have commented is not a dust magnet!
I have had my Audio Technica LP-7 turntable for a couple of years now and couldn't be happier. It shares many of the same features as the Anniversary Model.
Well it got my vote. I think its gorgeous. I'm almost tempted to start playing vinyl again.
Hi, I just saw a Chinese gentleman unboxing one of the LP2022s on youtube. Couldn't understand a word he was saying but, he sounded contented !! 😄😄😄
hi,
Many Thanks for the early tip. i immediately ordered one in a Munich Shop.
Today I received a message that it is on its way (i live in Munich).
Chrismas is coming early to me this year.
regards
Herbert
Thanks for the information. I ordered from usa. Hope both you and me can really get it.
Beautiful indeed.
It is a beautiful table! My hope is that AT get such an overwhelming response that they consider making more after the 3K initial run is sold.
Just took a close up look of one here in Tokyo about 30 mins ago - it's a very nice looking deck.
It looks prettier up closer. However, with its clear acrylic finish, much will depend on how you have it lit while playing records as to how pretty it will look. That will be a job for Olaf. Have fun! Will be interested in your comparison of the elliptical versus shibata stylus.
I have TEAC’s top model the TN-5BB with an acrylic platter and you put the record directly on it. Also it is visually pleasing, has a SAEC tonearm with Supra wiring and auto-stop, auto lift-up (can be deactivated)
Looks awesome
I still have a Linn sondeck from 1985 with itok arm and moving coil cartridge, naim pre and power amp and epos speakers. I traded in my life insurance to pay for it. I guess you could say I sold my soul for rock and roll !
OMG! Just ordered one❤ wait until you show people with this turntable with LED lights placed underneath it and playing translucent records!!! This is a DIY opportunity if no one can afford Brian Eno’s light shifting acrylic turntables😍
John good to see you. I hope you are healing well. Turntables Rock....Oh, and Roll
Gorgeous
I happen to like an all acrylic TT. I built custom 'bead blasted' unit with a 3" thick plinth making it look like frosted Ice. Roksan Nima tonearm is onboard with like asthetics and damping qualities. Ortofon LYS MC is on the business end. Used to put records directly on the frosted acrylic platter, but found a HexMat Yellow Bird platter mat to better isolate external vibration.
I saw it 1 second on your video and immediately fell love 😍
In the background your Rega P8 is spitting in your coffee
😂
Hi John. When are you planning to do a bit of a head to head between your P8 and the Technics you have. Would love to get your thoughts on them.
Bought me TWO!!!!
I can vouch for my experience I have a atvm95 elliptical and a siabatta stylus and to my ears it does make a big change in sound quality for the better.
Thank you so much for the heads up. Also, the thumbnails were really small on my phone when I voted, and I might have changed my vote if I had a bigger picture.
Yeah the poll pics didn’t show much detail
IMO there was a problem with the poll, there wasn't a way to look at full size pics of the turntables and the thumbnails were too small. I voted for the project 8. I guess most voted for the X2 because it looked the most distinctive and closest to a traditional turntable. I felt the others thumbnails did not pop as much.
I think it looks very, very cool!
My old Dual packed in and my wife managed to buy one from the uk site .
I personally love the look of this table and have now seen them being sold for three times the value . Quite tempting to resell mine . What do you reckon ? Need to see the reviews of its performance first .
Good content ps x
Oh I do so agree that the aesthetics are important and the AT turntable is delightful!
First of all, a video from Darko is always a pleasure among numerous videos that just appear. Some videos (!) aired recently, we love your stuff, but safe first.
On the other hand, survey's results are quite surprising, but apart from visual thing, I believe that somewhere in participants mind 'acrylic=dust magnet'/'traditional=trusty & convenient. And cannot believe this thing will work without a mat...I think Marantz, Pro-Ject, Thorens and others have produced acrylic turntables but don't think they made the difference...
P.S.: I thought you might review Pro-Ject's CD Box RS2T transport which was at your rack quite some time but now is gone...Was that bad?
Over 50 years ago I had the AT75N cartridge which has the “nude shibata” stylus and was able the pick up the wave on a warped record. Compared to Pickering and Shure hands down was the Audio Technica in sound clarity, and thru a pair of pioneers and KLH’s -heaven.
Nothing can ever beat Bang and Olusen's Beogram 4000c or 8000 series. So ahead of its time. Even today.
Funny you should say that. I own two Technics SL 1200s from new in 1987. Never had an issue with them except when Stanton stopped making elliptical cartridges which were my favs with these decks. I believe they will outlive me. And in my 60s and have lived and experienced all those High end stereophonic record decks whether it be belt drive or direct drive.
I can life up my decks whilst playing a record and the tone arm never jumps nor skates, not that I would do that but the decks are solid well made and do not give any problems over the time they are used.
I hope your B&0 will do likewise.
As for this product here, nobody really looks at a record deck, but plays vinyl!
beautiful turntable and i m sure the sound wil be amazingly suberb
I hope upon hope that A-T have used a robust scratch resistant surface acrylic, going by how easy it is to mark their turntable dust covers !
I am with you John! I think the table looks awesome and I would rate it #1 by a mile in your list!
I haven't found any serious unboxing / reviews of this TT. Did you get one yet? I'm anxiously awaiting the verdict.
That project X2 looks like my Ikea chopping board with a plate on it, nothing traditional about it; if anything id say the Thorens one looks more traditional in my opinion. 😄
Yes, I was amazed that one won, I think its very ugly. Beauty surely is in the eye of the beholder!
Pro-Ject and Vertere have been making Acrylic TT for years. The Marantz TT is made by ClearAudio.
I was considering purchasing the Marantz TT15S1 but then I came across the AT-LP2022 and couldn't believe how good it looks. Being a limited edition, It's seems that this is already sold out Unless you want to pay twice as much on E-Bay. Luckily enough I just placed a deposit at our local agent yesterday. Seems that I should be getting mine in a couple of weeks time. Let's see how it goes!
hi John my preference for turntable would have been the thorens due to its resemblance to my lp12 ,My new amp was purchased after watching your review of the gato amp150, what a gorgeous looking piece of engeneering its so cool ,who wants to look at a black box when you can show off such a great looking amp.it even pleased the wife, however she's not so happy with my wharfdale lintons taking over the room, any chance of a review of gato fm15.thanks john really enjoy your channel keep up the good work.
Being that Ivor took a tape measure and a TD150 and remade it in his dads factory makes it more Thorens than anything else. The parts are interchangeable still. Sure he did a decent job,
If this is like the other turntables I've read about with acrylic platters, you place the record directly on them.
One of the best looking turn tables I remember a Kenwood that had either a marble or granite chassis. Don't remember which.
Kenwood KD -5070 / KD-500 / KD-3055 , etc.
Best looking is Sansui SR-838. Doesn't look like a spider like most turntables today .
Rooting for you John. It looks great. I would if I was in the market.
I thought it was gorgeous compared to the other turntables that you have shown in the poll. Would love to have one for myself but if you can grab one, I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
My concern would be the potential build up of static with the acrylic material throughout ?
The white ProJect turntable they just promoted looks lovely. It beats the diamond bling of the AT.
Reminds me of daft punk R.A.M album, looks slick. Maybe it be cool if they include a clear silicone mat to fit with the aesthetic.
The fender one is amazing
Speaking about AudioTechnica, they released the version 2 of their famous ATX-M50XBT2 studio headphones adding bluetooth to them. It will be great if you can review these as well!
I may be in the minority but I think this thing looks super cool! Wish I had one.
I always had in mind a transparent turntable, I even have a transparent acrylic platter on mine, because I like the light coming through... I'll snatch one of those I think. (If they're not sold out yet) FOMO for sure LOL
I think it's gorgeous, but I may be biased as I have owned a Clearaudio Champion in the past. Keep up the great work!
That looks very nice. I much prefer my Gyrodec. Not exactly price comparable though. Project used to do the perspective, that was about £1500 a few years back.
I run it through a NAD T778, via phone stage. It does pretty much everything.
Something about clear electronics just makes me want it
I love it! Unfortunately I do not need another one in the house.
Would love to see this side by side in a direct comparison with the Pro-Ject acrylic turntable. That platter is black aluminum but can be upgraded to frosted with the Acryl-It. Not sure about price points, but it might be the next best, non-limited edition, thing?
A-T should be able to make transparent felt, right?
For me it would be the Rega and the AT as my favorite from a visual perspective
The audio technical design is just superbe.I would have voted for it.And yes I have a RPM 6.1 sb quite traditional audiophile style, but mounted with an audio technica Shibata the VM 750 SH😛
Did you eventually get one?
What a taste people have. Did they look well? 😜 Luckely my vote is seen in this here video. I like it.
As far as the stylus, the shibata stylus is a great upgrade from the stock 95E. I have the 95ML on my LPW40WN turntable and it dramatically improved the sound and tracking.
Hey John ! for me at this price point you can’t go past the Fluance RT 85 ! It’s like a combination of the project and AT. Beautiful wood plinth with an acrylic platter. Just based on looks though !
The RT85 is a beautiful-looking TT - One I hope to pick up on Black Friday.
While I admit it is an interesting look, have you seen the mofi fender sunburst tt? It is gorgeous!
Hmm. Ever seen the Vertere MG1 Magic Groove?
Best regards from Douglas
This turntable looks like it will never be clean once removed from the box, just a dust and fingerprint magnet.
I bough this summer one of the 12 000 units of the Technics Sl -1200 M7L and I havent had the guts to open the box yet but now you just gave me regrets because I would like that turntable as well but wife says no :)
It is a thing of beauty.
Great vid as usual. I don’t play the limited edition game so I’m not the least bit interested 😅
With the Shibata tip, if you have a vintage Quadraphonic receiver, you can play your Quadraphonic records.
I loved those acrylic turntables (from the likes of Marantz and others) back in the day, but these days are gone. Good for the rest of you. 😀
I still would go for something like a Micro Seiki DQX-500 / -1000.
When talking about FutureFi turntable, have you ever come across the Clearaudio Concept Active? This to me seems to be the most FutureFi it can get with a turntable. Maybe ad a remote control.
I would assume this is just like the Fluance where they recommend placing the record directly on the Acrylic platter.
If you want that kind of look why not the Marantz TT-15S1?
Surely a dust/fingerprint magnet? plus aesthetically (being see-through) this will really depend what it is sat on... Lookswise I favour "classics" like the Linn LP12 or Technics sl-1200 which looked good 40 years ago and will still do so 40 years from now
You could put some cool LED lights under it to light it up.
Brilliant 🎉
I'm surprised it doesn't include that already, you get some really nice PC cases that have such things for less ;p
I think Audio Technica just found Clearaudio’s acrylic designs of the past and thought they would have a go! 😂
Hi Darko, I‘ll catch up the topic turntables. I‘m about to upgrade to an old Denon DP-37F with a Denon DL-110 pickup. What do you think about this setup? It will be put into a self built headphone tube amplifier. Also I‘d like your recommendation which mid range headphones could be cool here. Main music will be jazz and classic rock (at the moment) but you have also gave me a little push in the electro corner with your videos ;)
Thank you so much for your feedback!
Daniel from Karlsruhe
Hi...if you can afford them, I would recommend Sennheiser phones. I've heard some with amazingly huge soundstage imaging.
It's a nice looking unit; has a 70's look/vibe to it. Hope it sounds good and works well for $1200. Just saw some photos of it on the AT website, and the dust cover cheapens the look of the unit.🤨
AT-LP2022 is the most good looking turntable I've seen and I'm sure if you see one live it's even better
Why not make a video about phono preamps John? Never seen you make one.
Would be interesting.
Take care.
John, what are the speakers in the background?
Even washing machines of yesteryear had height adjustable feet to counter uneven surfaces. It would seem to be a requirement of all turntables, too, as John suggests in this video on that one example alone.
