I came here specifically looking for perfumes that smell like carnation. I love that spicy scent. Honestly in my opinion, the overwhelming floral scent at funerals is chrysanthemum. Good information. My dad’s scent was English Leather and Winston cigarettes. He has been gone since 1984. Just finding your channel today. I enjoyed!
Thank you so much for this marvelous post and apologies for the delayed reply as I have been under the weather. Loved reading this and about your dad’s scent. Thanks for your kind words.
Fellow carnation lover here. Love your energy. Thank you for this video and sharing memories of your dad. Had no idea old spice was a carnation scent! We all have our loved ones who wore it back in the day. Carnation isn’t a sexy flower - I think because it’s so cheap in the grocery store and dyed synthetically it doesn’t have the same appeal as a rose or something harder to find. Who knows. We love it and that’s all that matters - maybe it will be next year’s hot flower but I kind of like that it’s under the radar. Recently tried Hiram Green Vivacious I think it’s called, smelled very literally of a wet carnation. Nice for spring. Also love and wear frequently vintage red cap by dolce and gabanna- there’s a velvet version that is supposed to be carnation forward as well that is discontinued which I am going to pick up.
Oh wow!! Thanks for this intel, friend. I ❤️red cap and it is very carnation-forward but I did not know about this sister scent you speak of. I would like to try more Hiram Green scents… I own + love Slowdive. Cheers!
Absolutely love carnations & scent of sweet William, and all dianthus or “pinks”. Strong memories of my grandmothers garden. My fave is Bellodgia. And you are right, why do the best go out of style?? To pronounce Oiellet Sauvage, say Oy-yay Sew-vaahj.
I’m only a few fragrances into this video but I just wanted to say that I like you so much already! And I’m going to subscribe 😊. I’m so happy I found you.
Great video! I love carnation scents! A great, very gentle scent was Billet Doux by Fragonard which was sadly discontinued. A scent you might like for sentimental reasons is Sweet William by Carner Barcelona!
ii'm so glad you did this video, because i love carnation scents! i'm not sure why it's unpopular, besides that people may consider it 'old fashioned' but i think that's just silly. i have found many more oils with carnation than commercially produced scents, though i did try oeillet sauvage by l'artisan and really liked it a lot. lady disdain by poesie perfumes is a favorite, and BPAL does some great carnation blends. i have been trying alkemia for a few years and they have some really intriguing scents. i tried evil temptress, and sadly it didn't really work on me, but have not tried green carnation, and now i must add it to my to-try list (along with a few others here, thanks.)
mirrorghost - I’m so tickled hearing from you and others who love carnation scents! Thank you for the recommendations. Evil Temptress bordered on too much for me for a solid year, but I think the oil settled a bit? I have to be careful of when I wear it, though (better in colder months but still pretty slutty, ha!). I find Green Carnation to be much more wearable and feels uplifting/fresh.
@@savorsalvagescent2300 i love slutty scents ;) evil temptress just smelled really odd on me, like not what i expected at all. but my skin chemistry does weird things i think. and yes, sometimes oils take awhile to settle, i've read.
Hi Amy! So thrilled to see carnation getting some love! I immediately went to check out Noble Carnation, and I see it’s back! If you didn’t already know, I hope this makes your day! ❤️ I’m going to pick up a bottle on your recommendation. Full trust! ☺️ Speaking of great carnation scents, I recommend Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood if you haven’t tried it already. It’s discontinued, and prohibitively expensive now, but sometimes you can pick up a 5ml mini.
Hi Sara! Great to hear from you + hope you are well. Yes, so excited that Royal Apothic is making that delicious carnation scents again. I had heard that Boudoir was fab but gave up when I saw that the discontinued bottles skyrocketed. But you never know! 💛
@@savorsalvagescent2300 Hi Amy, Well maybe it’s for the best! It’s a dangerous game getting hooked on discontinued scents. I learnt the hard way with D&G red cap. Best not to go there in the first place really. Keep up the great content! 😎
Thanks for this carnation explosion--I've taken notes! I'm wondering what you think of Bellodgia by Caron, and why you didn't include it here. It was always my favorite--so of course it's not around any more! 😭🤗
Hooray, another carnation lover! Thank you so much for this! Sadly I haven’t tried Bellodgia, tho I adore Caron, some are harder to find. I did recently acquire Nuit de Noël + Nocturnes. Not carnation focused but so, so nice. I would love to try Bellodgia + Poivre.
A great cheapie carnation scent is Vanderbilt by Gloria Vanderbilt. Great dry-down. Powdery, feminine. Maybe a bit dated, but beautiful nonetheless. I like it as an evening/bedtime scent. Another great video! ☺️
I clicked so fast. 😁 Had to pause and go dab on some Belle Chasse. It’s by Hové. It’s about carnation, but also has some rose and jasmine. It is retro (like most of their scents), but not overly stuffy feeling. Also, not as spicy as their soliflor Carnation.
I don’t care what anyone says- carnations are my favorite flowers. Also love lily, but because I have a feline roommate, too paranoid to bring those inside. I think a lot of carnation dominant perfume are either extremely powder or spicy- arguably also out of style? Though I love carnations I’m mature, most perfume iterations are too cinnamon-clove for my tastes...or too warm and powdery. I don’t mind a little powder, but I need it to be cooler as opposed to very warm. The only exception in Opium. Parfum and Secret de Parfum. (I don’t care for the current formulation edt and edp.) TBH, those are really incense frags. I think the closest I’ve come to my ideal is Santa Maria Novella’s Garofano. It’s crisp, green, cool and refreshing. That Green Carnation seems like something I need to try!
Rara Avis777 based on what you’ve shared here, I think you may like Green Carnation. I looooove Opium Secret de Parfum. One of the sexiest bottles/presentations I own! Carnations are beautiful!! Just tried my first Santa Maria Novella... I bet the carnation is beautiful.
I love 💕 carnations too. Thanks to you and this video, I was able to track down an Oeillet Savage. I love it. I am curious about your trip to Paris a few years back. Can you do a video on it? I am sure you did perfume shopping. I would love to hear about it. I too love visiting Paris and did a solo travel video about it. But not in the video were many stops at perfumery and fragrance counters looking for the perfect scent. I did find a carnation perfume at Fragonard, but when I return to get more, it too was discontinued. So sad. Oeillet Savage is close to it and just a little spicier than the one from Fragonard but lovely. I really enjoy your videos and your fragrance knowledge. I will share one of your videos in the near future with my viewers if I have your ok. Thank you.
I’m so touched, yes of course feel free to share! How do I find your channel? Would love to subscribe!! I have wanted to do a video about my Paris experience but my tech skills are so bad. However you have inspired me to try soon! So excited that you like Oeillet Savage! Where do you live, approximately, in the world? @@savorsalvagescent2300 I am in the US. You can find my channel via my YT handle. I know some of the small houses have great carnation scents, but unfortunately, most are in scented oil and I prefer alcohol base fragrances. I look forward to your Paris experience video.
You missed out on Roger and Gallet's Blue Carnation back in the 1970's. It was my signature scent when I was in junior high and high school. Sadly, it was discontinued in 1976. It was so lovely, rich and smooth! The fellows loved it too! I have even been lobbying Mahsam Raza of Dua Fragrances trying to convince him to create a dupe of Blue Carnation. Thus far, to no avail. i am on a mission to make this happen, so if you are so inclined, I would suggest joining the Dua Facebook group and bombarding Mahsam Raza with requests for a Blue Carnation recreation! Cause ya' know, it's got to be profitable for Dua.
I heard the Roger + Gallet was incredible. I actually tried to get my hands on an old bottle for a long time. Thank you for the tip about Dua. We might be part of a small group of people who like carnation, sadly! Have you tried “Winter Dove” by Solstice Scents? Just purchased this winter and am in love. They are on break until April, FYI.
@@savorsalvagescent2300 I, too, am crazy about carnations and their scent! Honestly, I suspect that ignorance and a silly sort of snobbery are behind the lack of appreciation for their fragrance. Now I need to go back and finish watching your excellent video!
Yes, yes, yes! I was just thinking the other day why Carnation is so out. I LOVE Carnation. Love the carnation in Lauren by RL. Etro, the italian company - has a frag named Dianthus. Have u tried?

I just ordered noble carnation and wanted to let you know it's back up on the royal apothic website! I think it might smell similar to the lotion "potion" by lush that was discontinued long long ago that I have never forgotten. Potion was a carnation lotion with rose and a spicy scent as well, I think it might have been black pepper or something. It was just such a magical lotion and had a lot of memories with it for me. Hi Amy...and thanks for this video. I dig your vibe. :-) I recently really got into fragrance collecting and one of my first scent memories is, you guessed it, carnation.
