I bought my T4 new about twenty years ago when my Olympus Epic Stylus stopped working. I really like the T4 and feel it is the best point and shoot that I've used. I like that it is sharp, good contrast, somewhat weather resistant, and I've also used the waist level finder for some street photography moments when I needed to be discrete. Haven't had issues with the focus but the camera wind motor is a little loud for my taste.
hi there, Bit of a coincidence, I am just testing my Yashica T5 and I love the handling accept I notice the T5 doesn't seem to have the same "half-press" pre-focus as your T4 (i might be wrong, going to test another 2 rolls) I am not disappointed with the MJU II, l really like the size and the shell keeps the lens nicely protected Anyway, I might do a little comparison soon (good excuse to shoot even more) Happy Shooting
Those photos look great! I've been shooting point and shoot a lot lately, I bought a Samsung AF Slim and it's really really good, almost too good haha. It's perfect for family shots and it's been living in my backpack with slide film, the meter is perfect.
I wonder if you could add like a piece of gaffer tape or something like that, at a point that kept your finger out of the frame. It should add really anything to the profile of the camera and might help tame that picture-encroaching digit :) I did that a lot with the Konica half frame camera that I have. It's a similar design in that the front is completely flat and since you don't look through the lens, there isn't anything to tell you that you're finger is actually taking up half the frame.
Thats a great idea, and for the final review I will tune the camera as much as possible to enjoy the results. A piece of gaffer will for sure live on the camera as most of mine do already.
The T4 is always pricey, I suggest you check for bids and try and get one a little cheaper. The T5 is also awesome and check the Olympus MJU I or II. The I is around 80 to 100€ now.
Hi Nico, I've got the Yashica T AF-D (first model of the T series), I paid 5,000 yen for it which is about as cheap as you can buy a camera in a shop in Japan. The T AF-D has exactly the same lens as the T4 but the T4 has much better ergonomics. The T4's are going for about 40,000 yen here at the moment. Also your pictures look really good, I have not got that level of quality from mine. Very good quality but not great. I also have the MJU 1 (Stylus), but the Yashica is better in function and lens quality. Cheers...
I can only speak of my view, they are a fun camera to have with you at all times. I load some color neg film and shoot away. Sometimes results are nice, sometimes they are not so much. For the price I could buy a Nikon F100 and a 50mm but that doesnt fit in my jacket pocket.
They're still the smalles fullframe cameras on the market. My Leica Minilux has some of the most beautiful optics I've seen on a 35mm camera. You ain't gonna get the same depth/look with a Sony RX100 i.e.
Great optics, small and reliable, easy to carry and you'll never miss a shot ! Beautiful photos will result because of excellent optics and metering that you will be immediately impressed by ! Now if we could only get fast processing like we used to, I'd be in Heaven !
I have the T3D and I love it ! The 2.8 makes a difference for me and its a better feel in my hands and though it's not as pretty, I feel its a better camera. Got mine for $6 at a thrift store. I'll buy every one I find for cheap and never sell ! They're just too good and too handy to not carry at all times if you're a serious photographer that doesn't want to miss anything ! For Digital, I prefer the GR2 .

I got one at a market for 1 euro but sadly it does not work properly, I can get to work at infinity but it is not worth the hassle.

what an alternate you would suggest? these are selling for 400 on ebay now ... =(

Check out Nikon l35af or canon af35mii
Ergonomics are great - I’ve got a T4 Super I really enjoy shooting. Love the image at 2:52.
Thanks! I was pretty happy with the first roll. And ergonomics are amazing coming from a Mju ii.
hi nico, where are you finding these for 150-200?
Sadly I got mine for that price and thought it was the average, found out I got a bit of a deal. But patience is always key with gear.
you did such a good job dev scan your photos, excellent short review, well done..
Indeed. Is that flatbed, Nico?
Frontier scans (at my studio).
Thanks!!
Has anyone had difficulty setting the year on the Yashica T series to 20,21,22 etc? My copy only displays from 00-19 and 94-99??
Some point and shoot cameras dont go past 2019. Sorry.
How much does it cost and where can i buy it?
Mostly ebay or stores like Kamerastore.com and its around 300€.
You must try Konica big mini A4 ( very good 35 mm 3,5 too) and less prone to shoot finger.
My cousin died a few years ago and i was given his Canon point and shoot. I have never shot with it but just loaded it with TRI-X and we will see :)
As much as I love the Olympus mju, it really does have its quirks. You really got me wanting to get a T4 haha
So far I cant say its not awesome. Will do a side by side with my mju ii.
How do you develop the images

i need one of these asap, heard the focusing range is less than 2ft or something😩
I havent had that issue at all, it focuses pretty close and all the way to infinity.
Minitar review please!!
Still working on perfecting it! But it will be out soon, at the end bought the lens...
Terry Richardson style ;)
Sometimes I try!
Can someone please explain the appeal that these types of cameras have in present day terms??
I don't understand the whole trend...

That kind of cameras are available here for 15-20 eur, because people just want to get rid of them. But sadly a lot of them were thrown away.
Picked one up the other day at Goodwill for $4 lol got lucky
I would say you did get lucky.

150?? its 400 now
