Dear Anthony, I'm planning on analyzing the structural moves of narratives written by ESL students. I was wondering if it would be possible to have a short video tutorial on how to use AntMover. The word document on your website is very useful but it's still quite advanced for my ICT skill level. I understand that the programme's default settings are geared towards the analysis of academic abstracts. How can settings be retrained to analyze narrative texts based on Lavob & Waletzki's narrative stages? Thanks in advance
Great to know about Laurence Anthony's free concordance, but I have been unable to duplicate any of his painless text uploads to the app. First I tried converting several Word files to XML. Then I tried Plain Text. I highlighted on the app, clicked on File View, and got Zero results. I downloaded the Converter, and that didn't work either. If corpus linguistics wants to make converts outside of the digitally fluent community (e.g., those of us who have spent our lives in the classroom and not on databases), these "free" resources need to be made explicitly more user-friendly.
Hi George, AntConc needs text files (not Word files). If you have a Word file (i.e. xxx.docx) then, yes, my AntFileConverter tool can convert this nicely. When you say you clicked on File View, did you then *click* on the file name? You need to do this. Also, did you try generating a Word list or search for something in The KWIC concordancers. Perhaps everything is working normally, but you just need to follow some basic steps (as explained in the help file and this getting started video).
@@AntLabJPN Hi! I did not click on the file name -- that was the (very small) missing step. I assumed that if the files were imported that the contents could then be viewed. I am most grateful for this tip, and thanks!
Hi, Sousou. You can export the results from the file menu and load them into a spreadsheet program and draw graphs there. You can also copy/paste directly into a spreadsheet program, which is even faster.
Dear Anthony, I am a PhD student on linguistics. I am planning to use antconc to build parallel corpora Indonesian-English. So the question is, is it possible to do this? Thank you
Hello, I am an MA student of linguistics, and I’m using antconc to analyze Arabic Ads. Unfortunately, I’m facing a trouble with getting the results. After I upload the files and press concordance or any other tool nothing appears or sometimes some letter appear.. would you please help me with that?
I had the same problem. Try to change the location of the corpora file. At first I had my corpora in a folder in another folder. When I opened the file with AntConc, nothing happened. Then I tried to move the file on the desktop and it works!
Sure! Just load in your texts (as plain text fields) and then use the various tools to analyze them. The other videos here will show you what is possible.
Hello sir. I am using antconc to compare a speech text to BNC as reference corpus. But i am confused how to download Bnc in antconc reference files. It will be great help ic if you can....
I'm sorry to say that the current version of AntConc does not support right-to-left languages like Urdu. But, the next version will. Check back to my channel in a few weeks. It should be there then.
Thanks for the tutorial. As the software, it was very useful for my school studies. Good job!
Thanks Fernando!

Dear sir, would you provide us with a link to download the bown corpus, please
Maybe this will help.

or this:

Hi, thank you very much for the tutorial. I am wondering where could I download the Brown's Corpus.
If you type "brown corpus download" in Google search, one of the first 5 hits (Kaggle) will give you the download.

I see you asked the same question the AntConc discussion group. You can find my answer there.

different characters appear when analyzing texts
Your encoding is probably wrong. Set you encoding of your files to UTF-8, which is the AntConc default.
