I know this was made for comedy purposes, but it genuinely taught me some stuff that I had gotten fundamentally wrong about drawing stick figures. Yay, science!
The ending of this video really won me over. Thank you. People please find it in your hearts to donate your time and money to yours and the international community.
Physics is an activity that requires an educated leisure class. The charity drive is an investment in future physicists among kids who don't get to grow up watching physics RUclips videos.
Elliott Collins ............................................. surely he could have done something better than "how to draw a stick figure" seeing as the the vast majority of people who are watching this video have, at least, primary education. Honestly, cut the whole stick figure stuff and just do the charity part
Thanks for this video I've been wanting to learn how to draw stick figures for longer than I can remember, I was gonna go to collage to do an intense stick figure drawing course, but bow I don't need to. Thank you some much.
What is wrong with people? This guy's videos are awesome. Yes, this one wasn't really physics based, but it was a light hearted video to support charity. What's with all the negativity?
Love the ViHart reference @ 0:07, as well as the XKCD reference at the bottom right at 0:11. ViHart's channel is awesome and was the only one that could get me super excited about a toy literally made of folded paper in the year 2014.
As a stick figure/fight animator for years I notice everyone develops a distinct style of stick figure animations over time, mine includes: - Start with the legs, and working up towards the head. - Make the legs only slightly larger than the upper body, and the arms reach halfway to the thighs in normal circumstances, but for dynamic fights, the arms and legs might sometimes extend a few pixels, but the viewers won't notice that above around 12 fps. - Instead of hand-drawing the head all the time, copy/paste the letter O as head for every frame when working digitally. - Have the arms attatched to the back of the head of the stick figure, from the same spot its neck/back is attatched, this is very important for making him flexable and dynamic in stick fight animations. - Have the forearms and and lower legs be a bit wider and somewhat resambling a cone-shape to reproduce the effect of having hands and feet.
Thanks for the tips! I actually learnt something today that I can apply. Was wondering why my stickfigures always looked wonky despite being able to draw other stuff (like my avatar), now I know why. Attached the arms in the wrong places and never made the legs long enough.
Physics requires an educated leisure class. Good research is a long-term investment that requires investing in future physicists like the kids in those pictures.
Human body ratios roughly follow a 3:2:1 ration where Unit 1 = height of the head. The head is 1 Unit, the torso is 2 Units, and the legs are 3 Units. So your stick figures legs should comprise half the total body length.
>_> There are people right here in Canada that cannot afford to go to a University or a collage... when this problem is solved in Canada I will help the rest of the world.
***** In other countries -.- why not fix one's country before helping another? These people your your kin, and it's a problem that is easy to fix tomorrow; we cannot fix the education problems of another country by tomorrow.
Ondraya So people in Ontario should not help people in Quebec? People in Toronto should not help people in Vancouver? Your next door neighbors should not help you? That's a bullshit argument. People are people. Everyone is your own kin, and you should be far more concerned about basic education in impoverished areas than with college education in your own.
Ondraya Yeah well, a lot of those kids can't even go primary school in those countries. They are very fucked in those regards, unlike you and everyone else in Canada
Mr. Rize AG Ontario an d Quebec are Canada, so yes, help them. Canada is home, help home first them help the world. Those people in impoverished areas need to learn to help themselves someday; look how much aid those countries. Want to help them? Send them some books about the Cuban Revolution.
There are over 69 million children that don't have access to school...I would really love to donate but I can't...I don't have any way,I don't live in US so I can't donate by phone and I don't have any access to money via internet :( I really support those kinds of actions, keep up the good work!
1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 + ... diverges, i.e. goes to infinity. 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + ... diverges aswell, it's just that Ramanujan summation yields a value of -1/12 (which the internet seems to be super fond of). So the joke in the video is that ∞ = -1/12.
Elliott Collins when content is specifically created just to host advertising, it doesn't really matter what the cause is for. These videos are a joke, it's something the creator makes just to have a commercial at the end and it's totally void of any content.
Jacob Darenberg The dude wanted to create a video about the poor who don't have money to go to school. It's his channel, his voice, and he can use it to say whatever feels right for him. Btw I liked it, because I'm shit at painting even stick figure. Stop being an entitled brat.
Dimitrios Denton "The dude wanted to create a video about the poor who don't have money to go to school." He could have made a video about that instead of making a video that he thought of in half a minute just so he had something to attach an advertisement to. "It's his channel, his voice, and he can use it to say whatever feels right for him. " Ok, and these are my comments, and my voice, and I can use it to state whatever opinion I have. If criticizing crap content for being crap filler content makes me "entitled" then you need to pick up a dictionary and actually learn proper vocabulary. I am not being discussed here. Why don't we help people here in Canada to go to college, that doesn't happen much here either, or in the States, or anywhere where tuition has become so incredibly expensive.
Although the like/dislike ratio shows how popular the video is, reading through the comment section makes me gag. I would like to apologise to all content creators, who give us FREE, EDUCATIONAL, FUNNY stuff, and have to read through this mess. Please, I beg you, do not listen to the vocal minority! There are many of us who watch a video, giggle, click thumbs up, and are on our way...but now I just had to grab my keyboard to let you know, that we are here, and we appreciate what you do.
This a thousand times. I hate when people draw the arms in the middle of the body, and it's so common to see, too. Plus drawing them closer to the head allows for more expression and creativity.
***** It would've been smarter to put ads on this video to earn money to donate. And he could've done this in a real physics video, so yes it does suck. Unsubbed as well.
It makes me sad that allot of people don't appreciate their education when it's so important and good. I have aspergers (a form of autism) and I've been home-schooled for 2 years since school was too stressful for me and the environment, added to my anxieties, made me physically sick. Tomorrow I am trying to go to a new school and am really worried, but at least i get to go, right?

Stick figures are one of those things that are so simple that we often forget just how complex and telling they can be.
Very well done.
Thank you MinutePhysics for this tutorial! Now, I can finally properly draw a stick figure and start my youtube career!
Hyun Glad to see you became successful.
Just... really? You're farming off this for money?
So Glad To See You Became Successful :D
Me too!!!!!
Yes
The ending of this video really won me over. Thank you. People please find it in your hearts to donate your time and money to yours and the international community.
OK
With a Dolores Umbridge-shaped head and one leg stuck partially up the other.
It has no body, only arms and legs. 4/10, try again next year.
〈-thatguyoverthere :(K
This changes everything.
Glory to the Terran Republic Brother!
Oh boy... so much physics in this video...
Everything is physics if you pay enough attention.
kimcen Yeah... if you zoom in enough... interesting...

Is it just me or did I see some Vihart-inspired and Randall Munroe-inspired art in there?
In the first row of figures, the last one (with the 'face') actually links to Vi Hart's channel.
Fhhh

"or Dolores Umbridge"
I laughed at that.
This was so very enlightening and I am so glad you decided to post this video. :D
Wow... Finally a tutorial I can follow! XD
FINALLY!! I've been telling people this is the superior method for 7 years! Now there is a video to prove it! Thank you!
Oh god umbridge made me spit out my cereal
In a good way
AHAHAHAHAHAHA i was laughing so hard same!
Me too haha. That woman is the worst. & I should know; she drafted the most horrible anti-werewolf legislation.
I love how you clarified proportions.
I have been waiting for this episode for such a long time
Totally physics right..l
A bit more important
Somerandomdude4.2526 Way less important really, if you think about it. And are really honest.
Somerandomdude4.2526 Not more important than physics, but yeah important enough.
Physics requires an educated leisure class. Good research is a long-term investment that requires investing in future physicists like the kids in those pictures.
Given the typical quality of drawing demonstrated by physicists (say when discussing examples on a blackboard), I think this lesson is much needed.
Human body ratios roughly follow a 3:2:1 ration where Unit 1 = height of the head. The head is 1 Unit, the torso is 2 Units, and the legs are 3 Units. So your stick figures legs should comprise half the total body length.

This guy is serious about them stick figures.
As a person who kind of professionally draws stick figures, this actually was informational!
Nice -1/12 cameo
except isn't the -1/12 series 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + . . . not 1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 + . . . . ?
Mike Lawler o, nice notice
You mean -7/12?
Derp Herp No, I mean -1/12
1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 + ... diverges, i.e. goes to infinity. 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + ... diverges aswell, it's just that Ramanujan summation yields a value of -1/12 (which the internet seems to be super fond of). So the joke in the video is that ∞ = -1/12.
Knowing a lot about physics is nice, but every once in a while it's nice to learn something actually practical that pertains to everyday life.
i feel ashamed to say this but i think my stick drawing skills might have increased because of this video

One of my favorite videos by far!
this was somewhat helpful but funny
Good guy minutes physics makes 1/3 of his video dedicating to the Comic Relief. Way to go xD
Instructions weren't clear enough. I accidentally posted a comment on youtube in an attempt to be clever, but failed.
You deserve a lot more viewers.
such informational 10/10
It was about time someone made proper instructions on drawing a stick figure.

The bassist for this video sounds like he's having a lot of fun.

that vihart link
I seriously use these rules when drawing stick figures now, and I even got bonus points on my art project for drawing realistically.
SWEG
Turn that W upside-down, and you've got SMEG.
Are you still gonna post things like that knowing this, Smeg-man?
Nordguy95 You mean Smegma-man?
Hey, SW3G is my thing, at least spell it right.
Architects!
Nick Nirus Or go the Red Dwarf route and call him a Smeghead :P
THANK YOU I HAVE LITERALLY BEEN DYING TO LEARN TO DRAW A GOOD STICK FIGURE. No Sarcasm Intended
Awesome cause. Education is the best way to bring up developing nations.
Yes! Now I can easily pass my physics test knowing this information
Pff, hardly any professional techniques here at all
This was really fun to watch :) Dolores Umbridge!!

fuck you, you piece of shit

One of my favorite videos ever
Love to see more of these drawing things!
You Are Very Good at that. Where'd you learn it from? Harvard?
Can you keep a magnetic object far away enough from a magnet so that it stays perfectly still in mid air?
this is pure art.
So thats why their animations are so good!!!
This will help me greatly in my future career of teaching. Thank you.
Who knew stick men could be so deep and full of layers?
For some reason this video, more than any of his others really reminded me of Vihart.
You adding in Dolores Umbridge made my day! :D
That was actually useful and insightful! :-)
Stickman FTW!
Didnt expected to have a stickman tutorial here srsly
Can you talk about something Tesla did or say? I think that would be interesting. Nice video!
Wow. Just wow. That's too much Physic for my brain. Can't... survive... this... POWAAA
Cool tutorial. Lol these are better than what I could draw when it comes to stick figures. Why didn't you write head in English?
Best video on the internet!

This was so useful, thanks! **off to college** ;D
Respect to you Sir!
Donating for the schools.
Your really good at drawing stick figures
Thank you this video was great. Now I can steal your visual style and make my own videos.
Love the Vi Hart allusion. Very cute. :-)
I'd dare say you are almost as good as How to Draw Really Good.
I laughed at the Dolores Umbridge joke, and again at the "you've been a naughty boy" joke.
Very very nice minute physics
Most accurate drawing tutorial I have ever seen.
Thousands of students in British Columbia, Canada can't attend school either because of the strike... :(
BAXTER! I'M IN A GLASS BOX OF EMOTION!
I always wondered. Why do you draw cats with ears on the back of their heads? The're right on the top, and even pointing forward a bit.
1:38 Ears for extra cuteness?
Doesn't that cause the opposite effect because it's attributed to age?
(I bet you could make a little science video about that, although that would have little to do with physics.)
