In my opinion as a new skater, I think 9.0 decks are easier to do flip tricks with just more room to work with on the deck, also heavier than most 8.0/8.25 decks so when the rotation goes the deck follows easier unlike a light skateboard will often fly from underneath you or rotate to fast. But that's just my personal opinion.
It's almost like everyone has forgotten 80s early 90s Street skating when them dudes were flipping giant boards just fine with ease... size is just preference. And I've found that bigger boards just feel so much better underneath the feet.
i can kick flip my longboard (has a tail), but it's way too heavy and big, it's hard af, actually hurts ankle, a 9 inch standard board is too similar to an 8, i didn't expect less from ellis
I think 🤔 8 “ perfect for flip tricks flat ground some street but that’s it 8.25 is the best all around for street flat ground flip tricks park that’s my opinion
Heroin usually has a few different 9 inch boards with every new batch of decks. I've been skating the dmodw 9 from them for about a month, it's a good shape
I wear a size 9 shoe but ride 8.5 inch decks because my landing ability sucks. Even with the extra landing surface, I still manage to break them in less than a week.
I have size 15 shoes and have an 8.5 deck and evertime i try to land my feet are always halfway off the board so i always mess up so now im going to get a 9
@Noastamper hel yea. 8.5 is the goldenspot deck for me. Every now and again I like to to go up and down in size and try different wheels/grip. Skate nerd stuff 😅
I bought a 9.0 'blank' popsicle just for riding to get used to it since I'm new(er). I I forget the thickness but I put risers on it, 60mm x 40mm 83a gel style wheels. Knocked out the kingpins in a set of Independent trucks (don't remember the width but they were slightly too narrow but the offset wheels make it matchup with the board) and put two yellow hard Independent barrels in each truck. Took mote money and effort than I thought but now it's perfect for me for cruising. At my weight (too much) the stiffer bushings and everything just does what I want it too. The only problem is the wheelbase at the bolts is too short so I rest one foot up on the tail. The wheelbase is actually shorter than an 8.0 board before I knew what I was looking for. The deck length is something like 31.?? Or a 32.?? and I prefer a 33.00. I didn't realize there were different types of carving but I guess this would be considered a 'lean' deck.
i hope its not too late one year later, but believe me, nothing makes as much difference as the wheelbase. completely changes the riding and cruising characteristics. wider board makes it a little more comfortable and longer board only makes a difference if its longer wheelbase. i went from 8.25 to 8.625 and it felt the same bcuz the wheelbase was same
Remember people were skating street on 9.5 and 10 inch boards with 60mm wheels until like 1991 wheels got smaller and then board got a bit smaller in 1992 but boards were 9 inch wide granted they skated like 45-39mm wheels
Used a couple 9" boards before also got a 9.25 chocolate Couch shape deck set up rn. Not good for tricking. Super good for going fast and ollieing. BUT sized down to a 8.6 for the main and this might be where I stay
try an 8.37 it's the perfect balance of an 8.25/8.5 best of both worlds. not skinny but not super wide its perfect I do like riding 9.0s Tho, that's just what I started with but went down to an 8.37 and its heaven. Lol
@@danagordon7518 I don't even have big feet. Like 9-size10 now I like riding 8.75" no longer than 32.5" though. It's just the board I like riding. More space for "landing" tricks. Grips better for frontside airs on quarters and I can fling around shuv its, pop shuv its. Always land on the mf thing. I also kickflip super fast. If I move down to a 8.5 I start missing my flick, and if I ride a 8.25 I start doing double flips. So I can def get the board around.
@@2Taps420 the board I had before my friend gave me a 9" was a blood wizard 8.38?? Then my homie gave me a 9" toy machine and I haven't looked back since. I've ridden 8.5s and 8.6s and I can def fuck with a 8.6 if I feel techier than usual. But I'm just tryna go around the park, go fast, bust some big ollies and whip out the occasional kickflip. Only thing that ever made me want to go down to a smaller board was so I could tre flip easier. But I think it's just cuz I suck at tre flips. Rolled my ankle super bad once and haven't really wanted to "relearn" treflips.
Have any of the hop king dudes tried Tensor Mag Lights? I imagine with an 8" board, Mag Lights and 42mm wheels they would be spinning penta flips in no time.
ellis is just too insane. love the videos!
Thanks a lot dude! Really appreciate the support :)
You know ellis has freaky balance when he lands feet together and doesnt even flinch
Hahaha, so true TJ!
1:24 be like
Ellis is so talented man it’s unreal. My favourite skater 🔥
Thanks a lot! We're super lucky to have Ellis on our team :)

i just recently got a 9 inch anti and holy hell it goes smooth flick tricks everything
@@SjFrmMtl just got a 9.5 from a 8.5, gonna see how well it skates
@@Bajue ahhhh i think your gonna like it
@@SjFrmMtl I already love it just skating in my backyard, It feel smoother since i'm 5'11 and shoe size of 11.

not really. there is practical differences but for the most part, it is just preference.
exactly i ride a 10 and can flip the board fine
i can kick flip my longboard (has a tail), but it's way too heavy and big, it's hard af, actually hurts ankle, a 9 inch standard board is too similar to an 8, i didn't expect less from ellis
Yeah like if you can get a good flick you can get it to flip just fine
Hahaha im staying with 8.25s from now on
Unreal ender ☃️
Ur too good man 🙏
I remember back in the day when everyone skated 7.75
Hahaha wise choice!
I think 🤔 8 “ perfect for flip tricks flat ground some street but that’s it 8.25 is the best all around for street flat ground flip tricks park that’s my opinion
Looked and sounded so sick landing those crazy flipper do-das with that 9”. Ellis is a beast!
You're the reason I skate again after 20 years , bro amazing skater thanks for everything, im a huge fan 🙂👍
madness! I've just moved down from 8.5 to 8.25 but still have a shaped set-up for some old-skool fun
Epic dude! Are you enjoying the 8.25?
This is gnarly cant imagine skating something that wide- props🙌🙌
Bigger boards just need a little adjustment is all
Yeah they need planing down
i wear a size 13 and can only ride a 9. they are SOOOOO hard to find. work just the same tho 😅😂
Heroin usually has a few different 9 inch boards with every new batch of decks. I've been skating the dmodw 9 from them for about a month, it's a good shape
Im a size 13 and perfer 8.375 it fits me really well
Try finding a 7.5 these days
@@hksolventless9260 im currently riding the dear man of dark woods 9 inch from heroin. they make pretty solid decks
I’m a size 9 and I ride a 9.0😂😅
The most Steez I’ve seen from a skater in this day and age
Thanks a lot Tyler - yeah Ellis has got epic tricks and style :)
I wear a size 9 shoe but ride 8.5 inch decks because my landing ability sucks. Even with the extra landing surface, I still manage to break them in less than a week.
He make it look easy 💪🏽💪🏽
How? Too good! He also lands them in few tries! 👏🏼
Thanks for the support dude! Yeah Ellis is super talented and consistent!
I have size 15 shoes and have an 8.5 deck and evertime i try to land my feet are always halfway off the board so i always mess up so now im going to get a 9
The one foot land is just a huge slap in the face of gravity itself..
proper wizard
Amen dude!
that shoe and sock combo is nice. thumbs up.
Thanks a lot Edward :)
As someone that rides 7.5, that board looks absolutely massive LOL
Im from 7,5 era and this is snowboard to me.. 🤦♂️😉
Killin it🤘💪
lowkey wanna move up to an 8.75 because im 6’2 with size 12 shoes. but i fear i won’t be able to keep my tricks
I actually went back up to an 8.75 . Size 12 too. It's like 95% preference. I love the room I have on the board at that size. I say go for it!
i skated one and it felt good but a bit tough for tre flips. it settled down my board madness so now im comfortably back with 8.5
@Noastamper hel yea. 8.5 is the goldenspot deck for me. Every now and again I like to to go up and down in size and try different wheels/grip. Skate nerd stuff 😅
I wear a size 11 and all my boards are basically 10 inch wide

Y'all forgot that Simon Woodstock can perform tricks on ANY skateboard. Width, length, it don't matter cause he's one of them under-rated OGs.
Good idea for a video 👍
Thanks a lot Ben! More content with Ellis to come :)

Breana Geering Vans
How tall is Ellis? Im quite tall and i find it easier to skate large boards, even for flip tricks.

Hi
Hey dude! Welcome to our channel :)
I ride 9 there mint af
Nice dude! Yeah they're a nice size to skate :)
I’m sticking with 8.5 forever
same!
The width shouldnt matter how easy or hard it is to flip it. Its just as easy to flip than a 7 inch. I have an 8.5 deck cause I've got bigger feet.
8.875 is the way
Interesting, we might have to make some 8.875s :)
HI
kader sylla rides an 9😗
Nice! It's interesting from this feed how many people ride 9s :)
I flip around a 10
Triple flips look so unsexy
Lol i do kickflips with my 10 inch board
Kader LMAO
😂😂
I almost landed my first casper 360 double flip today I was so close😄

Hahaha yes Chris
I know he's a very talented skater, but his stance and choice of foot placement really puts me off.
is this a joke? i skate a 9.5 and hardflip pretty regularly
For some reason I thought Ellis already skated a 9.0 or a 8.5 idk why 8.25 looked so big to me 😂
