Awesome! Never knew this. Was looking to find where to get it to make a planter for carnivores plants, and wondered how it is formed. Thank you for sharing.
Here in Mexico, pumice bricks are everywhere and can withstand extreme heat. So yeah! They are refractory. These bricks are made by hydraulically pressing the pulverized rocks with water. No binder required.
beautiful video, in hindu mythology the Ramayana talks about how Lord Ramas army crossed the ocean on a bridge of floating rocks. good to know what the mythology is based on and how the rock is formed

Pumice stones are used to soften and clean feet.
Not the real ones
Real ones can destroy them.

It is thrown out during some volcanic eruptions.
It floats on water because it is so full of holes and gas pockets.
i found a big one in the field and it's heavy and it has lots of little holes in it
If it is heavy, it may not be pumice. There are many other volcanic (and non-igneous) rocks that have holes.
That's not pumice, but the red and more brittle cousin of basalt. That rock is escoria or slag.
