know it is like 11 years ago lol but just to answer this, Marty has already said in an interview that Cacophony stuff was all both's contribution. Some songs were already written by Marty like Ninja but in words of Marty "He would come with better ideas than mines". But yeah, what its a fact is that Jason learned a lot in Cacophony together with Marty.
Well that's true, Marty did teach Jason a lot, but I've read where Marty would talk about how ridiculously quickly Jason learned new concepts. He would leave him with something and the next day he would have it down pat. Jason was like a fish to water. They were an amazing duo, though, I just wish we could have heard Jason evolve as a player.
Ron Jarzombek...now there's a guy who has been criminally overlooked when he's influenced so many fucking guitarists...and most of them don't even know it! haha
true, but friedman will tell you that becker was the most prodigal player he'd ever met. if jason didn't have the unfortunate fate of lou gehrig's disease, there's no telling how good he would be today.
ultimateguitarfish is correct. Marty has said that when the music was too difficult for him to play, Jason played it. I think Jason is better as well. Jason is a brilliant composer as well. Check out "Perspective." Marty declared that Becker was a "genius" composer of Bach or Bheetoven status.
dont want to sound like a jerk but this doesnt have Marty's credits. Raspberry Jams and Blackberry Jams are all Jason's work with Black Stallion Jam exception which was written by both Marty and Jason.
They're both amazing. I agree with you that it isn't fair to say who's better, as it's simply a matter of personal preferrance. I don't think music should be graded in a "who's better?" fashion. It's an art form, not a math exam. Steve Vai once said "...who has the right to say my noise is better than your noise?" I think as long as you stay true to yourself, and make muisc you're proud of, as opposed to selling out, making generic boy band music for a profit, etc., then you should be commended.
Yeah and in a guitar world interview with Becker he said Marty Friedman was better than him and how marty taught him things about the guitar he never even heard of before meeting friedman. So they are just both modest guitarist. They are both on a whole other level of guitar playing. I don't think its fair to say who is better, but say they are equals who's styles compliment each other.
hahaha last picture is so cool xD anyway, both are great... marty is the best exotic-scales metal player ever and becker is the greatest shreder different styles, but sounded great together
True, but Becker would also tell you that Marty taught him so much that he didn't know. And uh, I hate to say it, but considering the circumstances, I don't think Becker's a better player than anyone... ever. As stated before, they were both very modest and knew that, as a musician, one NEVER compares themself to another musician. It's like comparing... musicians. REAL musicians know not to compare. I agree though, Becker would be absolutely sick today, no pun intended.
Nice try. Close with the tones but this is not Jason and Marty. Not on their worst day...Still pretty good playing who ever You are. same guitarist on both tracks.
These two guys are Gods of the guitar, true legends.
Great, so I'll eventually get this song because I'll buy the whole Jason Becker discography.
marty friedman wrote most of the cacophony stuff and taught becker alot.

It wasent the tone that was the problem it was what they were recording with and the way this file was compressed when it was put onto youtube
