    It's like, 'just been to the summit.' Great adventure Evan - I really enjoyed the Pearly gates. It looks bigger than what it is from a distance. What an ice world. Awesome. Great sunset - you couldn't have asked for more - well a little less wind maybe. With good company a top rate day. All the best. Mark

      Glad you enjoyed it! It was a pretty epic hike. It was fun to climb without any large crowds and push ourselves a bit on the icy sections of the mountain.

    Hiking in winter conditions is no joke. The winter scenery has its raw charm. Cold, but beautiful. Sunset shoots and light is amazing too. All respect you did this hike Evan! You're a hero! Stay safe!

      You're right. Winter does present more challenges, but it does have beautiful scenery and there are a lot less people on the mountain. Glad you enjoyed the video!

      Yes, there were some sketchy parts of the climb going up the Pearly Gates and down Old Chute. We were well equipped and everyone summitted/descended safely.

    Way to rock the summit of Hood in February, and board er down from the Devils Kitchen. Pretty Epic adventure, I'd be wiped too!

      The trip was pretty epic. We were all exhausted after finishing up. The snowboarding conditions were tough, but we were happy to have done what we did that day.

    We are still waiting for our first snow of the winter here but looks like you have had more than your fair share over there. Nice early start and brilliant to see the sun rising but man that wind sounded rough. Awesome climb and even better scenery but man, what a great way to get down! Cheers Alan

      Plenty of snow up on the mountain, but it was pretty windblown and icy when we did the climb. Snowboarding was definitely a lot faster than walking down the mountain.

    Wow, that's probably like the scariest climb I've ever seen you do, Evan! Very sketchy in certain parts, but you guys knew what you were doing. It was extremely beautiful scenery the whole way, though, and the day was really clear. That was a really fun way to get back down the mountain! Thanks for sharing your mountain climbing adventure with all of us.

    • @WithinHikingDistance

      Thanks Eric! Glad you liked it. I think the key word was "intense" as we did that climb. There were some sketchy parts up and descending because of the ice and windblown snow. It was a real challenge, but a memorable one.

    This video is almost a year old now, but I was just wondering why you guys chose to go directly over the bergschrund instead of going slightly to the left and around it? I've never climbed Hood, so I was wondering why this decision is made. I've seen other videos of people going over instead of around it too. Why is that? Is there another obstacle directly to the left of the bergschrund that forces you to go over it?

    • @WithinHikingDistance
      @WithinHikingDistance  2 года назад

      It is really steep and there are fumaroles on either side of the Hogsback. Going over the bergschrund was the simplest route for us at the time and pretty fun too. Thanks for watching!

    • @andrewyeoman4720
      @andrewyeoman4720 10 месяцев назад

      Climbing directly over the Bergschrund seems like an incredibly bad idea. All the guides state to traverse it if its open.
