Good or not, its popularity is limited by it being just another seasonal anime, especially because it only has one season and no sequel. Personally, this is one of my favourites, but I can kinda see why there aren't more people who are still interested in this anime
@@mattiasantus9491 Meteora did give too many exposition dumps, im sure it was meant to be part of her character description being a librarian and all, but it was annoying.
Given that "RE:" is historically used as a shorthand for "In Regards to", it would logically mean that the title of this anime is not meant as "Re-creators", but _"In Regards To Creators"_. Which, of course, is entirely appropriate, given the plot.
it's so sad that Re:Creator so forgotten, it's like people fell in love and then forgot and broke up. I will carry on the love of Re:Creators. May our creators help us.
@@coffeecoffee2096 nah i agree with him, even shit like darling in the franxx stil gets remembered while this mess got mostly forgotten. The only reason i even remembered was because i went through my mal catalog and saw it with a 5 scoring and remember how mediocre it was despite all the hype.
Cuz it was such a disappointment, Ppl can forgive mediocrity, but become a disappointment and ppl will pretend as if it doesnt even exist. I remember watching ep1 and thought "omg this is gonna be so good", Fml. It had so much potential to have so much depth, to make interesting stuffs and so many aspects to explore, but in the end it was all just a hollow facade. Shame.
In my opinion, the reason all original anime end up being so good is because they aren't held back by the limitations of adaptations- in manga or novels, there are usually certain events that occur, things happen in certain order, certain scenes are drawn in a certain way; the story and characters are laid out and adapting that properly can be difficult. However, for original anime, they can do whatever the fuck they want, however the fuck they want.
I realize this video is well over a year old, but hopefully someone will still see this comment. Anyway, after seeing this video I decided to give the series a try and ended up marathoning the first 12 episodes in one sitting. So far this show is absolutely incredible, and if the rest of the series is as good I can see this becoming one of my all time favorite animes EVER! And that OP is just... wow. Thank you so much for the recommendation!
You've only seen the first 12 episodes?! First off, watch episode 13, it's the recap episode, but WORTH IT. Then, you get the new OP in episode 14. I definitely think it's better than the first. As far as haters go, it's ultimately up to you whether you like it or not.
@@williamprescott8816 episode 13 was funny, that grown up version of Meteora, sexy as hell but also fucking badass, i also like how they make the episode being a revview with her point of view. Likke adding few quote about how Aliceteria is dumb ,ect.. .
I loved entire show. Its something new and refreshing. Today I finished watching. Its ad how this show is so underratted :/. I ve never felt so many emotions in once. I was so satisfied with ending. Its funny how show made me hate Magane but in the end I liked her. I know she caused Mamika death but in the its what she does its character. I know her last act was selfish but I some way I felt there she want to help but dont admire it. Show succeed where other show does not and that is you care about almost every character. Its really unusual that vilian got good ending but thats what it made speacial. Ofcourse I loved its it from writter point of view sometimes how hard to get your show running. Im not even talking about soundtrack I have not words for it.
Lee Hearts True haha half of the people here say this is dissapointing or boring and half of the people think it's amazing and is the best of the season
It's only controversial when the thing isn't actually good. Say JoJo is good, you'll be able to count with your hands how many people disagree with that.
with saitama literally hitting himself when trying to kill a fly I'm pretty sure he'll be fine even if accelerator rebounds the punch, plus mans ain't really trying since he was holding back even his serious punch against boros
I'm confused by the immense hate in the comments. I wouldn't agree that it is a classic, but it is still a really good show and one of the best that is currently airing. Why do so many people here hate it?
Because rage of bahamut was indeed cliche. But surprisingly, I enjoyed second season more than the first, it's more rich and not generic or predictable like first season but people who loved first season apparently really hate the second season. Well, i can understand the flaws and the hate for the ending, I just find it funny as someone who didn't enjoy 1st season and people who enjoyed it, ended up in a vice versa position.
Joseph Huckaby probably cuz they wanted or expected to have the action packed type shonen feel to it instead of understanding deeply into the story or just being ignorant about it.
Im with Geoff with this one. I dont know if it will reach the status of classic, but with 22 episodes of this freaking quality it has the potential to do so, easily. Right or wrong i have to thank him for discovering this series to me and probably a lot of other people, im deeply enjoying it.
People tend to hate heavy dialogue and slower pacing. I shouldn't be surprised this show has so much hate seeing as I went through the same thing when I loved Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash only to see that so many people were talking shit about the slow pacing.
It may have slow pacing but yeah they really fleshed out the fact that they are just striving to survive in this new world. Basically Konosuba but more serious since Konosuba also fleshes out the “money is important” and “it’s hard to be a beginner” but does it in a more comedic way.
@@UncleMerlin Exactly people complain when there is world building and character development but when there isn't any they use it as a crutch to say why the series is bad. Can't please everyone I geuss.
13:08 "we'll see how well that goes" haaaahaha *cries* But thank you for making this video, MB; I seriously love Re:CREATORS and I wish I could find all of the fans it supposedly has so far lol. I'm surprised to see so many dislikers in the comments... I think he really hit the nail on the head here, which is that it's not entirely about what the show has _already_ done that makes it so intriguing (although the most recent episodes are some of the best imo, with the introduction of the final character), but rather just about the sheer potential of what this premise _could_ explore, which it has already begun to do in all of the different ways he mentioned. At some point he says something to the extent of "I love shows that fully explore every possible angle and idea of its premise" (paraphrased but that's essentially what it was) and damn if that doesn't completely sum up why I adore this show so far. None of the characters were love at first sight for me or anything like other things, but I still like all of them to some degree (particularly Yuya, Mamika, and Meteora), and the fact that they're all so different because of the different genres they come from is what makes their dynamic together so _great._ Seriously, this show just has so much it could do with the amazing idea for a plot it has, and I'm beyond happy it's getting 22 episodes and the time it deserves to do that. It feels like a love letter to all us nerds who fall in love with fictional characters and stories, and I love that. xD
Re: Creators is actually just an anime version of that episode of The Fairly Oddparents where villains from one of Timmy's comic books (The Crimson Chin) escape into the real world from a wish gone wrong. Episode is "The Big Superhero Wish". Fairly Odd Parents did it first guys.
Aight, Geoff. 9 minutes and 4 seconds in, I'm clicking off this tab and going to watch this show. I need to see where this show goes. Big ups, you shiny nerd.
I don't get why people are shitting on this for the premise not being new. There are a shit ton of anime that have a theme of being in a high school yet people are on board with it, especially this season with a show like Bastard Magic Instructor, where the girls are half naked. I know that premise and theme are two different things but they can still be compared. Obviously, 'Fictional characters come to life' isn't new or original, but its not like its an over saturated market like you see with zombies in TV. There have been relatively few anime, I can't really name any, that have this premise and it seems to be doing a good job with it. So why don't we just stop throwing shit out like its unoriginal and just enjoy it for what it is. And also I see people talking about how the dialogue scenes are insufferable, and while I do agree they are a bit long, I don't really have a problem with them. They always talk about something that is somewhat interesting and relevant to the plot. And any time this takes away from the action of the anime is made up with episodes like 6.
Eelonex god dammit you have a pretty bad taste eh? That teacher is interesting? What part of him? Everything in Akashic records is predictable, it is an sack full of cliches that don't have nothing new in it. It's probably the first anime we will forget after the ending of the season
I feel like re:creators has too much on it's plate. It cant properly create its own universe because of all the different characters from different "animes". All the characters so far feel weird, off and un-anime like (which is what they derived from) or in other words lack personality.
Hey now that Re:Creators finished do you think you might make a final thoughts on it? I really loved the anime and agree with all the points you mentioned, all the characters are really memorable and unique in their own ways and one of the biggest points that I liked of the anime is the relationships between the creators and their creations how Aliceterias and her creators relation changed after a certain understanding and how each character has a different take on and view of their creators being a sort of fate. I truly enjoyed this anime with it's idea, action scenes and music and highly recommend it to anyone to watch, something I've noticed though is that people are so impatient and dislike the dialogue that occurs many times.
Impatient? This anime is slower than molasses. It was acceptable until we had about 6 episodes in a row that were LITERALLY NON-STOP TALKING AND NO DOING!
Blame this guy for making the video. I just hope he's either trolling or currently eating his own words. Re: Creators is average at best, but this video... this fucking video is objectively horrible. Hell I'd hate it even if it was about my favorite media piece, which changes all the time btw. Classics don't exist.
This show in particular is by far one of my favourite. Being able to sense this deep connection with these 'creations' as they're brought upon from their world into reality and then having their own independent thoughts and ideals being challenged. The part about the 'weak cliche' characters is suppose to help us relate with existing ones and then develop them along the way I believe. I like way they have these clash of ideals due to the way they're written and then developing from their to have their own self-awareness and developing/changing past what they're suppose to be as mentioned in Episode 7. There was also this one part where Meteora talked about when she played and read the game from where she existed and then accepting her fate and individual self even though she's supposedly just a fictional character. While some do share some negative sentiments about the aspects of being a Created (mainly the ones on Sota's side) and how their Worlds are suffering their own conflicts but they also understand that the Creators of Whatever don't just half-ass their creations just for pure entertainment, because a Creator puts in love and care into their products, paying attention to detail to create believable fictional environments and writing stories that, even though is causing suffering to the Created, is meant to tell a purpose, to send a message, to the consumers. That's what creating a story is about: Stories are meant to tell a purpose, to send a message. A World doesn't just suffer for a 3-second half-assed laughter, it's supposed to suffer to send a message, tell morals, give teaching, enlighten people, etc. And the reason why Creators are so passionate to create Worlds is because they want to tell a story and to share their ideas. To touch hearts, or wreck them, all for sending messages. And this side, understand that, causing harm to Creators or forcing them to re-write everything is just not going to work because besides field-testing it, as mentioned by Meteora - Even though she's just entertainment, she's still going to protect what her Creators have created because she cherishes and respects the lessons and events she's went through in her "own life" and the gifts that are given to her, only made possible by the Creators. That's what I believe the story is trying to convey.
Watched the current 9 episodes. The anime is amazing! The plot is done very smartly. Science is involved, chars are not dumb, they actually use resources and data when theory crafting.
re creator is like big fuck you to most generic anime trope. red haired girl is actually not tsundere to the mc, white haired girl that eat alot, soldier princess is an insane loli, persona guy is powerful and not stupid, knight girl is actually pretty dumb (is this darkness), gakkou gurashi girl has issues, gundam age once again, and finally, a government that actually do its job.
waifurixxen Swapping character tropes around isn't exactly smart, and a long shot from "a big fuck you to most generic anime tropes". If they wanted to flip the bird like that, they'd have written interesting and original characters. Right now, personally speaking, I'm not seeing it. (or wait is your comment meant to be sarcasm ? i can't really tell by text alone)
Ok, can I talk about that for a minute? How the fuck does Shark Girl's power work? Edgier Travis Touchdown didn't buy into her bullshit for a second, but she still somehow made it so he lied. Shark Girl is quickly replacing Expositiona as my least favorite character in this series due to how poorly she's designed. Also because she gave the middle finger to Best Girl Mamika.
Definitely late to the party, but I finally decided to watch this series on a whim. Glad I did. The premise alone already hooked me, but the characters and writing is what kept coming back.
I saw this on MAL earlier in the year and decided it wasn't worth my time. Lo and behold, Pappa Basement-kun makes a video telling me to shut up and watch it. So I did. Holy shit, haven't watched a show this good in a long time. Thank you so much, I'd never have picked this up if you hadn't made this vid, but now I'm absolutely hooked. If anyone is just scanning the comments before watching the vid, I'm just gonna say go watch it. If you can read deeper meanings in scenes and infer what characters are feeling without it being ham-fisted to you, then you'll love this show. If you can't read deeper meanings in scenes and cannot infer what characters are feeling without it being ham-fisted to you, then you'll still like this show because of the awesome fights.
I feel like the only real let down for the show is the overload of exposition early on and early in the second act. It's very good with tacitly conveying character motivation, but boooy do they have trouble explaining the complicated plot. Also, Amazon did a REALLY bad job with translating the dialog as the show went on, cause all the stuff with explaining the bird cage got really confusing, especially when the twist happened with the MUP's plan to exploit it. I only managed to get it through context.
Yeah, this show gets some flack cause of all the Dialogue but as someone who enjoys that kind of stuff, this was an amazing show that deserves a lot more love than it gets.
I never get the criticism of it being having "too much exposition". I mean, does anyone even watch anime before 2000? Hell, most long running shows can sometimes have half an episode of prior exposition being presented - it's not a *good* thing, mind you, but it's telling of how a lot of anime just has a lot of exposition *in general* . Especially before the 2000-10 era - Shows like NGE, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and even shows in the modern era like Attack on Titan or every iteration of the Monogatari franchise are all heavy on exposition and - especially before 2000 (and Monogatari) - overly complicated dialogue. I don't hear *near* the amount of complaints about those issues compared to Re:Creators. It makes no sense, unless there's just inherent bias towards Re:Creators for whatever reason. I feel like people went into the series expecting one thing, and getting something completely different that tainted their view on the show. If I remember correctly, people were hyping it up as some sort of meta-fiction battle royale ala the FATE series, but it wound up being a comprehensive thesis on what it means to be a creator of any kind and the importance and meaning of media for the general public. It's not a simple show by any stretch of the imagination - quite a few people misinterpret various plot elements claiming "deus ex machina" or "asspull", when - in fact - it's all there, explained, if you just do what any person does when reading a book and read between lines and make inferences based on that. Like any good media, it doesn't tell you all the answers - you have to come to those conclusions yourself and they may make you feel ripped off or they may be transcendental in nature. It's all subjective - it is media after all - but, objectively, touting that there's "too much exposition" that it makes it bad is just an uninformed justification. I think another issue regarding why people feel this way about the exposition is that, on a week-to-week basis, it definitely feels heavy handed. However, going back over it again, there's not near as much of it as people felt there was. It's perfectly in-line with most 22-26 episode series. Hell, Fate/ZERO had one of the most exposition-heavy introductions *ever* , and it's still regarded as practically mandatory viewing by the vast majority of the anime fandom. If you can bypass *that* , there should be no reason Re:Creators' exposition should be used as an argument against it, at all. It is what it is, but I think going back and viewing it a second time yields a far greater understanding and acceptance of said dialogue and its purpose in the story - as nothing spoken is being spoken *just* for expository purposes except its recap episode, which is probably the greatest recap episode in the history of recaps. Recap.
@@ojisankusai you hinted at it, but isn't it funny when people bitch about Re:Creators having too much exposition, only to later see those same people whine when they don't understand Altair's powers? It's not just this anime either, I've seen countless other anime where people whine "there's too much talking!" then later whine "why can x character do this all of a sudden now?" when it was 99% of the time foreshadowed/hinted in one of those early "too much talking!" spots. I get it when there's too much dialogue. Fine. But I think the reason the amount works in Re:Creators is that this is, like MB said, a "story about stories". You really do get the sense that they want to flesh out characters before conflicts. And this show clearly has great story/character/world building material. Heck, even action heavy shows like the ones you talked about have just as much, if not MORE exposition as this. And people don't whine about them..
I put this on my recommendation list the better part of a year ago after watching this video. I binged it over the last 3 or so days and WOW. It's been a long long time since a show has made me laugh and cry and much as this one. I cheered for the heroes and had love-hate relationships with all the villains. Characters expressing how important and life changing fiction was for them struck right to my heart. Meteora's experience as described in this video and a later conversation between Alicetaria and Sota were huge moments for me. Can't recommend this one enough.
TBH I like the anime. Even with the dialogue, I was interested at listening to the characters and that's saying a lot from someone who has ADHD like me. What I love about this anime is how characters project themselves. My only complaint is that the show seem to concentrate on some characters more than any other. The dude with the gun barely had screen time. He's mysterious and all which is interesting but his absence makes me think the show is cramming too many characters into one story. :/ It's a good anime and I would love to see the next episode. As a former storywriter, I love it how the characters interact and progress the plot (yes, even those long dialogues of info dump) but I wouldn't say it'll be a classic. It's just too early for that.
Guy from the Internet Me now being at Episode 21 I say it concluded pretty well(their is one last episode that is most likely epilogue) if you look back I think the pacing really isn't that bad it's more of the platform it's on. It kept getting delayed which made it look like it was badly paced. From what I see you have 1.5 to 2.5 episodes of Dialogue The Who have about 2 to 2.5 episodes of action.(I'm kinda a sucker for dialogue but I can understand others point of view.) I think this series would actually be very nice if binged watched
Essence Studio The last episode was great. There was so much jammed into it however, it somehow felt rushed in that episode. If there is a fault with this series, it would be pacing. The show deliver so many ideas and rich characters and it makes the show so amazing but it is also its downfall. With so many things going on, it seems to me they are having trouble with pacing the episodes on how to deliver so many ideas. As I see it, it went from a slow paced arc of the main characters in preparation filling us out with all the info we need for the final battle and when the final battle came, it was just an explosion of plot twist and turns that made me rewatch it to get a grasp on what's going on. Here's hoping Re:Creators will be remade with a much more steady pace in the story.
@@guyclykos As much as I hate the show now after having finished it, I would probably watch a remake in hopes that they fixed their horrible pacing and major plot flaws (the infinite ass-pulling got tired quickly).
i just imagine what Guts would do if he came to life in this world. He would probably wreck the world for using his suffering as a source of entertainment.
I don't think that, but he would be somewhat happy that there exist such a peaceful world, he would probably want to bring Casca here since our world has such medicines and technology and heal her
@@SnugglesPrime Eren goes to Isayama's house yelling at him to give him freedom, Mikasa threatens Isayama to make Eren end up with her after learning about ships through the internet
The amount of hate for this show is surprising, as I did *NOT* see this hate anywhere else. I can tell from the comments that a lot of you probably just paused the video after seeing the title or after he mentioned other classics to make a snarky remark about Re: Creators being a "classic" and left without listening to the points that were made in this video. And there were a lot of good points made. I mean Jesus, where my Re: Creators fans at????
Galad I'd say it's average right now not at its best. It can be better but it's definitely one of the better shows this season. I like the flow of the story, it doesn't feel rushed, and I like my information episodes more than just fight scenes. It's just lower than Boku no hero and aot, but that itself isn't bad.
Boku no Hero and AOT have plenty of hype behind them. BnH is legitimately entertaining in every way possible. A huge cast of likable characters that don't feel left behind and in my opinion is the standard that shounen anime should be held to. Shounen such as these anyway. BnH is a sequel to an already established series though. So is AOT, which is amazing as well. But when I look at what Re: Creators is doing, especially since it's an original story, I can't ignore it's direction. And it's characters are crazy endearing for me. MC Sota is frustrating me a bit right now, but other than that, I'm loving it.
Same! I like it a lot! I can see why people don't like it because of the dialogue and exposition, but I personally like the topics they were talking about so it didn't bore me at all
As a writer/character creator, the idea in this show about your characters meeting you and wanting to talk to you about why you made them who they are hits me really hard. Haven't watched this yet but I'm going to get on it, it sounds perfect for me.
Katsuhira I think it's particularly because the main character makes this show hard to like and or even enjoy it. As it's annoying to see characters only meant to push the plot when wanted and not when it's needed
Tbh I never really saw him as a main character after episode 1. To me he just felt like a side character and the main characters/focus of the show are the Creations
I'm enjoying it and am curious to see how things are turning out, but I feel like calling it the anime of the year this early into the show is jumping the gun by _a lot._
What if all the characters from Re:Creators appeared in the real real world? I mean, seriously, what the authors of the characters say? Probably freak out, honestly.
Wow, this anime I didn't know anything about before now on account of not paying tons of attention to the anime community and not having been subscribed to this channel for long sure sounds interesting! I hope the comment section doesn't spoil anything by heavily implying that a character dies a tragic death :D
I thought it was an action junkfood but I'm actually surprised on how it went and I love it for that. Recreators' core theme is acceptance more so than being meta, granted that the message screams louder than the plot. It started because Sota wasn't able to accept that Setsuna was a better artist and the plot was also resolved not by defeating Altair physically but by him finally accepting that he fucked up. Altair is the manifestation of rejection created by Setsuna before her suicide, the characters can't accept at the beginning that they weren't "real" or that their pain was created for the sake of entertainment, they can't even power up unless the fans of their series accept the change that the authors made. It's a show that emphasizes on what a creation is for different people. Unlike Bakuman and Shirobako, this anime is a very roundabout way of telling the story that revolves around creators hence, RE:Creators. Creators are people, they get frustrated, inspired, get jelous, tell a story/message. I love how they added fanart into the anime itself as well and just for that, I feel that the passion in this anime makes it stand out.
No i was considering droping it until I reached episode 7 i got hooked and then i got bored again and considered dropping it but I didnt and I didn't regret it because last four episodes are amazing also I love happy endings idgaf if it makes sense or not
Having watched it to the end, I can say that everything here is correct. It's almost worth going through the entire show, no matter how much you hate it or are bored by it, just to see the second-to-last episode. Most shows seem to drop their "the villain has an understandable reason" bomb in the middle; this one drops it practically at the end. I also give this show a lot of credit for making a character who appears to have no point but to be overpowered and too random to really make sense in the story, and then make the character suddenly important at the end and you can how everything else set it up. That it is a one-season anime and the way it's written makes it impossible to really expand it into more seasons just breaks my little heart. Also, both openings are glorious. Also, the self-insert fanfiction episode gave me all the lulz.
i honestly don't care about most the comments here! I love this anime so much already, I found this anime today and watched it all in one sitting and had me sitting at the edge the entire time! you got my subscribing to you sir! Great video
eugene fletcher Yo same lol I this anime is pretty niche but I love it either way! (If it becomes a classic, it's probably gonna be like serial experiments lain, in how it's somewhat popular but not everyone would enjoy it)
I agree that ERASED was an easily forgotten flavour of the season that was only popular before the last couple of episodes, and has since been forgotten by a lot of people. But Yuri on Ice is still really popular, particularly among fujoshi and actual figure skaters. Welcome To The Madness just came out, and a movie is coming up, so it's still relevant.
Re:Creators feels a ton like Akame Ga Kill: the development of the "good" and "evil" sides as full rounded characters. Memorable and iconic characters make classics.
Akame ga kill had a few memorable characters👌🏻 the manga was lit. Felt like I was watching FMA BROTHERHOOD since the last boss was esdeath and literally everyone was charging at her like the FMA team did to father but with worse results😂
That's honestly an insult to Re:Creators. Akame Ga Kill is full of pretty simple characters and plots that depends on character death for shock factor to be "good."
@@VidiaReePhoenix sort of? The first deaths i’d say yes but later on akame’s characters flesh themselves out and i actually really liked them, and their deaths felt meaningful to me, that’s only my opinion but i wanted to say this anyways.
After deciding to become a writer, this became my favourite show. I think one of its major flaws is that the premise and philosophies resonate with me so well as a writer, and people who don’t create things will probably struggle to identify with the show’s core themes as deeply. The animation and music are outstanding, but that can easily be found in so many other shows. The characters are interesting, but I think it is difficult for them to resonate with the viewer. The core conflicts revolve around accepting or rejecting reality and their own world. What it means to create something and have it accepted or rejected by others.
Eren Yeager (more specifically from the final season) as an antagonist in Re:Creators. I can't seem to get this idea out of my head, so I would like to get your opinion on it.
Hi, just watched it and its a great anime. Metacommentary, 4rth wall breaking, good ending and good music. It's a show about artistic creation, the relation between de artist and the art piece and the relation of the audience with the piece. Its good. And the antagonist has a lot of charisma.
Finished watching this in January of 2023, and I absolutely loved Re:Creators! It damn well deserves more attention and more love from people, because I've never heard of anything else coming close to the concept before or after!
So I just finished the show and wow! One of the best I have seen in years. Was wondering if you were planning on doing a full review in the near future? Would love your take on how the story unfolds and what you make of the ending and character choices.
Hi, I just finished the anime last night. When it ended I was left with a feeling of longing for more, satisfaction, and sense that it told all that it intended to tell and did so brilliantly. You are 110% correct in your analysis here. It doesn't ham fistly deliver it's philosophy and character development. It was refreshing for someone like me, where I felt like I kept being able to know exactly where the plot would go and how things would develop. If you only come for the action, yes, you might be bored during the dialogue , but if you want to understand 'll the show has to offer, it keeps consistently showing you how creators and creations interact, realistically how characters solve problems. And builds to a satisfying conclusion. I don't want a sequel because sequels have a habit of opening up plot holes and undoing emotional impact. I loved it because it was complete rather than having huge cliff hangers and leaving open events for possible continuation.
Yes! This show has been one of my favourites so far, it may be my appreciation for meta-narratives, but this one in particular has been an absolute delight, between the commentary on genre-conventions and generic characterisation, I am convinced that the creators had thought of absolutely every possibility of what could happen if such a scenario occurred and then worked into a narrative structure. I'm sure a lot of people are frustrated by a lack of action scenes and the myriad of scenes of characters talking, but I think those scenes are an absolute delight to listen to as they such interesting things to say. Though I have noticed this show has been one of the most contentious this season as well, curiously so. I do feel like this show would be harder to appreciate if you didn't find the commentary on genre conventions lacking or uninteresting, although I'd argue this show equally works on merits besides just it being meta.
As someone who aspires to have stories of my own published and has spent over a decade exploring my own characters and story worlds through art and writing, this really speaks to me. The idea of meeting my own characters is something I've given a lot of casual thought to- which ones I would get along with, which ones would be difficult because of what I've done to them and those they care about, and those who I would flat out not want to meet because I know they would probably kill me. All these possibilities, and many more I never gave much consideration to (never really had a more child friendly world like Mamika's, so that story arch was particularly fascinating to me), are being explored by this show. The point where Selesia's creator stands up for her really hit home in terms of the deep yet somewhat complicated relationship a writer or artist has with their own characters, and how much they care for them. And yeah, some beats you don't expect it to take (when the military got involved I was expecting the exact same thing as you, and was similarly pleasantly surprised to find they weren't the incompetent idiots media has taught me they are) were really refreshing. As long as you can accept the fact that it's not high action all the time, which I really can, I find some of the quieter moments quite powerful, this is a wonderful anime. Just apparently one with a very specific market audience. Makes me sad so many people seem to hate it. :( Or rather, their apathy compared to the love of some causes it to be expressed as something harsher than it is.
To me, the protagonist. He has little in way of characterization and overall feels like he has no impact on the plot other than a vehicle for the audience to experience it.
Although the style of storytelling isn't similar at all but the setup of characterization is very similar to some of Stephen King's books. That alone is a brilliant sign for me.
I'm only on episode 4, but at the very onset of Re:creators the "protagonist" says that he is merely a narrative vehicle, a side character, to the main story unfolding. Maybe he becomes more important later on and I'm just not there yet, but thus far it seems like a rather clever design trick to have us experience a plot full of fantastic and over-the-top tropey anime characters through a side-kick. I certainly can't speak for all of the characters, but I thought the purpose of Sota was to be a poorly fleshed-out side character.
i have a feeling people who don't like this anime didn't pay proper attention to the exposition, which is understandable as there is a lot of it. but there are so many little details and payoffs in there, they are missing the great parts of this anime. people also say the ending is trash, and.... i have no idea how they think that. if you are reading this, please tell me how the end is trash. i'd love to discuss.
@@93ImagineBreaker ah, i can see that you didn't pay attention. they didn't try it at first because the chance of the audience buying it (what makes it happen) was extremely extremely slim. only when they were out of options did they try it, and it barely worked. i don't know why you think a series can only be good when the villains get divine punishment? yes they got away with the shit they did but it wasn't like they raped a puppy. they didn't do anything to make tus hate them (c'ept mabye kill the madokamagica girl) so i don't really see the need/problem.
I also think this anime is very likely to be a masterpiece. But as you can see in this comment section, the messages it's carrying affect only a part of the community. I think that to enjoy the long discussions of the show, having interest in the creation processes is quite necessary. And not everyone has it. I think the show has a target audience too small to be compared to "classics", although I think it shares the same level of quality. We'll see...
Well then you're probably not the "ideal target audience" for this anime. But I think anyone that has put some thinking into creation, and/or has already worked on creating a story or drawing original characters, will be able to understand and relate to the characters and the reflections they convey. Just the amount of possibilities offered by the show's universe is thrilling to me. And of course the credibility of the interactions between the characters and the coherence of the universe to the smallest details helps a lot for the immersion. Other than that, I think the animation is nice, and well directed so nothing lacking here. And the core message about the "passion of creation" and how it interacts with the "manga industry" makes it one of the best "meta" story I know. So yeah, in my opinion and if they keep this level of quality until the end, I'll consider it a masterpiece. But again, not a widely recognized one like Mother's Basement hopes it to be...
The problem with all this is the potential, yes she show had a lot of potential but that doesn't change that it did not do much with it, Re:Creators is more like the seasonal Anime people like to talk about and like for some reason even though it's actually pretty bad. Just remember what a trainwreck Charlotte was.
Well, we were talking about the potential of the show... now that more episodes have been released... Some messages and ideas are still great, but overall, the potential is ruined... the scenario and the characters didn't keep up. And as Mother's Basement said, I think this concept is more suited to be the base of a game, not an anime.
Literally it took me 3 years to find put where this Alucard looking girl with the shark teeth was from. No one knew where she was from and while watching a random video that popped up with her in the thumbnail, but lacked the show name. Then this video was suggested with one of the characters in the clip I was watching so I finally know where she is from
@@93ImagineBreaker if you say so. They even share the same color scheme in their clothes and similar face shapes but what we see similarities with is highly subjective to an individual's memory
I'll check it out, although for it to be considered a classic so quick... I have to wonder about how that works. Time helps with something become a classic as well, although it is nice to see different thoughts from time to time.
Finally watched this hidden gem, how did I miss it when it aired! Amazing. All I want now is to see all the original stories, and the spinoffs they made to prepare for the final battle!
OOOOOOOOOH MY GOD PLEASE DO A *KAMEN RIDER* EPISODE!! I have no idea how or what, but seeing you use Kamen Rider clips in your video got me weirdly excited!
YES PLEASE! I know there are tokusatsu youtubers out there but I've always wanted to see an anime youtuber tackle tokusatsu. It's a very underrated form of Japanese media that I sometimes feel doesn't get as much appreciation as it should. It always makes me wonder how the big anime community would reaction to Kamen Rider Gaim and Kamen Rider Ex-aid if they were actually anime. The closest thing we've got to tokusatsu anime is Samurai Flamenco and the up and coming Gridman anime studio trigger is doing.
I just finished it, and man its been a while since i've felt so satisfied after watching an anime. The last time i felt like this after finishing an anime was probably code geass. The music, the setting, the experience and the plot twists were so great man! SPOILER WARNING: i spoiled myself on Selesia's death while watching the episode she died in... I took a quick glance at the comment section and obviously they had to mention it there.. I didn't know how she died while reading it though so it didn't completely ruin the experience, but no matter it was still an awesome experience.
One thing I love about your videos is that you are able to extract the core of so many aspects about a specific work of fiction where I am struggling to put it into words. As a creator I enjoyed the show in so many ways especially because the characters were so relatable when it comes to their mindsets regarding the creative process. I even strongly identify myself with one of them. For me, Shunma Suruga was one of the most interesting creator characters despite the fact that she has just a minimalistic minor role, and that's because she thinks in a similar way to getting inspiration. After learning about the real existence of her own character which comes along with the certainty that his suffering about his loss is also real she does not feel guilty at all. When her creation eventually confronted her and asked her why she did such a thing she simply answered that it's just because it would make her story more interesting. I can totally relate to that high priority. Wish there could have been more interaction between her and her creation.
Omg i watched the entire series(?) of Re:Creators right after this video! Thank you so much! Anyway, do you have any good recommended anime with genre of fantasy like Celejia Yupitilia's/Meteora Osterreich's world? Not looking for comedy or another series of Fate stay Night.... like legit good ones! TYVM
There should be a character who came from a manga in the real world and should just go into a random school sitting in the back of the classroom looking out of the window while he is watching the other characters battle.
It wont be considered a Masterpiece. I can understand people calling it a "really good anime" but I definitely don't see it becoming a "Classic". Personally I made it to episode 3 and just thought it was "Meh". This video made me want to pick it back up with a new mindset. We'll see where it goes.
Rick&Red React true it's good but it doesn't make me beg for the next episode or anything or keep me at the edge of my seat when I'm watching it although I love the art style
One of the best shows I've ever watched, I loved it. The fights, dialogue, and setting all made for a great show. It had aspects that I personally connected with so that's a first for anime I've watched this year.
Never would I have thought that the Magical Girl of all people would be the most compelling character. She's the only one experiencing any sort of character development so far.
I watched this show right after marathoning season one of Attack on Titan, figuring it would be a satisfying, light-hearted anime. AoT broke me a little inside, because I tend to feel a real emotional impact when characters - especially well developed ones - die. And AoT is rather gruesome about it. So I needed something to cool off. For this reason, I was very happy when the series first started out! The tone felt calm, even if there was an element of mystery, and everything seemed to go smoothly for the protagonists, like how a typical soft story usually works. Every "Creation" the show introduced, from Light Novel Girl Selesia to the psychopathic Magane, was interesting and three-dimensional, and while their personalities definitely borrowed from common tropes in anime and gaming media, all of them refused to be defined by their tropes. In particular, I was really fond of Mamika. I liked the tragedy of her innocence and good heart conflicting with the harsh reality of the world around her, and eagerly awaited for her character to develop into something mature and strong. I wanted to see her grow and realize she was fighting on the wrong side. I wanted to see her try to consolidate her morals with the situation around her and find some sort of common ground. I wanted to see her gloriously overcome the limitations of her genre and setting to gain a sense of nuance and humanity, and return to the good guys' side at just the right moment in a scene of pure awesome. But then episode 8 happened. Some of what I hoped for happened - but not in the way I expected. I have to say, I love, love, love this anime. It knows when to be comedic, and it knows just when to punch your heart right in the dick (pardon my French). It's not perfect, yeah - but it's probably one of the best things I've watched in recent memory, and I can't wait to finish it. Thanks, Mother's Basement.
Re:Creators is my favorite anime of the year. It really is a series that you have to unravel to appreciate. Mamika has grown so much and you can see that as the series goes on. Meteora having to cope with the death of her creator was a feeling uniquely to her . I also believe this is a highly underrated series .Thank you so much for making this video . You explained it so nicely ,and i hope it attracts more fans .
Really like the potential of the show, and the presentation is pretty great, but so far it does have some flaws like the story so far being pure speculation and taken in as complete truth...and also the MC so far being on of the most passive/inactive I've ever seen...but the show is gonna be long, so they have more than enough time to adress this and then we'll get an amazing adventure.
Sota isn't really the main character. People seem to forget that there is such a thing as multiple protagonists from which we see different point of views. Game of Thrones serves as a perfect example of this format
Regardless of being the focus, I do remember multiple scenes in which he could've contributed to the conversation and instead chose to leave the others just discuss things they didn't understand. (another example of that could even be him actively hiding information, but that can be justified)
I found it hard to get into this show at first but I’m really enjoying it right now. I’ve only gotten back into anime recently, and I’m sad I missed this show for so long!
Me: Well, despite me disagreeing, isn't 8 episodes a bit earlier to call this show a classic? Geoff: "....as of this writing, which is 5 episodes in" Me: Well nevermind that.
Okay I am excited to check this out now. I don't often go out of my way to catch shows that aren't on Crunchyroll so I probably would have never caught on to it without this video.
Three years later and nobody talks about this show anymore. It's crazy how even extremely popular anime can have a short shelf life
I still recommend this when I meet someone who ask for an anime recommendation first.
@@firecatalpha4618 noooo... don’t do that. There’s so much exposition. You’ll bore them in the first 3 episodes.

Given that "RE:" is historically used as a shorthand for "In Regards to", it would logically mean that the title of this anime is not meant as "Re-creators", but _"In Regards To Creators"_.
Which, of course, is entirely appropriate, given the plot.
That doesn’t seem to be completely accurate. It’s shorthand for Latin “in re”: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_re

Shouldn't it be RE: Exposition?

In my opinion, the reason all original anime end up being so good is because they aren't held back by the limitations of adaptations- in manga or novels, there are usually certain events that occur, things happen in certain order, certain scenes are drawn in a certain way; the story and characters are laid out and adapting that properly can be difficult. However, for original anime, they can do whatever the fuck they want, however the fuck they want.

It's only controversial when the thing isn't actually good. Say JoJo is good, you'll be able to count with your hands how many people disagree with that.

Phantom Menace and Battle Tendency were good, Starship Crusaders not so much.

I'm confused by the immense hate in the comments. I wouldn't agree that it is a classic, but it is still a really good show and one of the best that is currently airing. Why do so many people here hate it?
Joseph Huckaby it's one those animes that is extremely controversial I guess, like SAO
Joseph Huckaby because most find the show and characters dull and boring. reminds me of when I liked rage of bahamut and everyone called it cliche
Probably because the story is too complicated for them to understand.
Jans6ever It may never reach the official status of a classic, but it is unequivocally a sleeper Classic.
People tend to hate heavy dialogue and slower pacing. I shouldn't be surprised this show has so much hate seeing as I went through the same thing when I loved Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash only to see that so many people were talking shit about the slow pacing.
Likewise. Grimgar received so much hate, people miss the great character construction and the BEAUTIFUL art :(
It may have slow pacing but yeah they really fleshed out the fact that they are just striving to survive in this new world. Basically Konosuba but more serious since Konosuba also fleshes out the “money is important”

But thank you for making this video, MB; I seriously love Re:CREATORS and I wish I could find all of the fans it supposedly has so far lol.
Owain's Sword Hand Do you perpetually tremble?
They also did it with the Dark Laser toy, though to a lesser extend.
There's actually a book I've read where the characters in any book that a man reads out loud will come into real life. It was a fantastic read.
Pretty sure people did it before them, too. It's not a new idea.
Owain's Sword Hand Fairly Odd Parents did it better too
Aight, Geoff.
Ealonex (Cue the J.Jonah.Jameson laughing clip in response to your comment)

+AuthorityCat Classics exist. This isnt one.
+I need no channel youtube! Correction: Classics exist. This *is* one.

I do not meant by swapping, it's by dropping a single or more attribute of the trope that makes the character different than usual.

Recap.
Same here!
When they spoilt Selesia's own manga i was dying XD. Legit the most meta anime meme within an anime. "Nics dies!!"
It's a good anime and I would love to see the next episode. As a former storywriter, I love it how the characters interact and progress the plot (yes, even those long dialogues of info dump) but I wouldn't say it'll be a classic. It's just too early for that.
I am back 17 episodes later. It's not looking good. The last episode was awesome but overall, the series isn't paced well.
Essence Studio
The last episode was great.
Watching this after the ending of the anime and amazed at how accurate a lot of the speculations made are. Great Analysis!
i just imagine what Guts would do if he came to life in this world. He would probably wreck the world for using his suffering as a source of entertainment.
I think Aliceteria is partly inspired by Berserk.
Imagine Eren and Mikasa in our world.
I don't think that, but he would be somewhat happy that there exist such a peaceful world, he would probably want to bring Casca here since our world has such medicines and technology and heal her

Zero Network Yo I love Re:Creators too! I love the diversity among all the main characters, which makes it interesting!
Looks like we are on the same page bro. Don't worry, u aren't the only one. I got ur back.
Same! I like it a lot! I can see why people don't like it because of the dialogue and exposition, but I personally like the topics they were talking about so it didn't bore me at all
Ep 13 is the best ever
it's the only ".5" episode I'm glad i never skipped
altair’s backstory is simply tear inducing.
As a writer/character creator, the idea in this show about your characters meeting you and wanting to talk to you about why you made them who they are hits me really hard. Haven't watched this yet but I'm going to get on it, it sounds perfect for me.
I'm almost thinking I'm the only one who likes Re:Creators because the MAL score for this anime fall every god damn day
People can't appreciate good things these days
Katsuhira I think it's particularly because the main character makes this show hard to like and or even enjoy it. As it's annoying to see characters only meant to push the plot when wanted and not when it's needed
Katsuhira I hope for this anime to be the anime of the season
Tbh I never really saw him as a main character after episode 1. To me he just felt like a side character and the main characters/focus of the show are the Creations
I'm enjoying it and am curious to see how things are turning out, but I feel like calling it the anime of the year this early into the show is jumping the gun by _a lot._
I can't wait for you to talk about this anime again since it ended, I can't wait to hear what you thought about it
What if all the characters from Re:Creators appeared in the real real world?
I mean, seriously, what the authors of the characters say? Probably freak out, honestly.
OH MY GAD
I also think that the "real" characters would be freaked out because it turns out they're also fiction. It'd be funny to
Wow, this anime I didn't know anything about before now on account of not paying tons of attention to the anime community and not having been subscribed to this channel for long sure sounds interesting! I hope the comment section doesn't spoil anything by heavily implying that a character dies a tragic death :D
I stopped watching this video halfway through because I wanna see it for myself. No regrets.
9 episodes in. Not disappointed, love the anime.
Ealonex So I am guessing you don't like good action, an interesting story concept, cool characters, good music and great animation.
I am really considering watching this anime.
I'd definitely give it a try if I were you, if you're still not feeling it after the first 5 episodes you can just drop it.
No i was considering droping it until I reached episode 7 i got hooked and then i got bored again and considered dropping it but I didnt and I didn't regret it because last four episodes are amazing also I love happy endings idgaf if it makes sense or not
Do it
Don't.
So how was it?
It has bootleg Demonbane. That already makes it better than most other anime.
If only every anime could have a giant fucking robot in it...

Flavour of the season that we immediately forget?
You mean like ERASED and Yuri on Ice?
Erased was great in my opinion!! :D :D
It was great up until the ending. Sours it from a 10/10 to an 8/10 for me :/
I agree that ERASED was an easily forgotten flavour of the season that was only popular before the last couple of episodes, and has since been forgotten by a lot of people.
But Yuri on Ice is still really popular, particularly among fujoshi and actual figure skaters. Welcome To The Madness just came out, and a movie is coming up, so it's still relevant.
Jost Björkegren Yuri will be remembered for social reasons, even if the show isn't great.
Jost Björkegren Yuri on Ice sure as hell won't be forgotten thanks to how pathetically salty people have been against what's a genuinely decent show.
Re:Creators feels a ton like Akame Ga Kill: the development of the "good" and "evil" sides as full rounded characters. Memorable and iconic characters make classics.
Damn, been awhile since I have heard positivity over Akame ga Kill
Akame ga kill had a few memorable characters👌🏻 the manga was lit. Felt like I was watching FMA BROTHERHOOD since the last boss was esdeath and literally everyone was charging at her like the FMA team did to father but with worse results😂
Hopefully this ends better than the narrative and thematically confused mess that is Akame Ga Kill
Really? I dropped it after 2 episodes because the writing was all over the place. My group's consensus was: Great concept, terrible execution.
is a bold statement you doing here buddy

Well OneMANarmY that just proves how much evidence MB has on this show’s quality
You say that like it DIDN'T have plot holes.

Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song is going to be the next Re:CREATORS, because it won't be remembered.
I'm sad now.
MB: “...see where this goes...”
Me: *sweats profusely*
Even as a person who likes this anime, I lost my shit when he said "brilliant character writing."
I'm assuming he's talking about just some of the characters... Which characters would you say are poorly written?
To me, the protagonist. He has little in way of characterization and overall feels like he has no impact on the plot other than a vehicle for the audience to experience it.
Although the style of storytelling isn't similar at all but the setup of characterization is very similar to some of Stephen King's books. That alone is a brilliant sign for me.
I see the plot as having an ensemble cast and Sota as just being the protagonist of one of the many sub-plots.

Fuuuuuuck yeah

Naofumi would probably beat his creator for giving him such shitty fate and life
I also think this anime is very likely to be a masterpiece.
BIackstrength really masterpieces are you serious he'll no
Well then you're probably not the "ideal target audience" for this anime.
Wow, I love it when people bring new, interesting arguments to the discussion... >.>

Bradley Merrium Might I possibly suggest Record of Lodoss War?
Hunter x hunter's first 15 episodes are trash so don't count it out
It's really sad how this show isn't popular at all, even 5 years later I still remember how epic it all was.
It’s a goddamn shame this anime doesn’t have a bigger fan base. I really, really loved it. It made me tear up at the end.
MAMIKA BEST GRILL
RIP ONLY GOOD CHARACTER IN THIS ENTIRE FUCKING SHOW
FUCK THIS SHOW
I watched this show right after marathoning season one of Attack on Titan, figuring it would be a satisfying, light-hearted anime.
An anime that is actually about breaking the 4th wall.
Geoff: "....as of this writing, which is 5 episodes in"
Me: Well nevermind that.
This show is basically the Bohemian Rhapsody fight
HOLY SHIT GUYS WAS THAT A MOTHERFUCKING JOJO REFERENCE?!?!?
Tbh I think Inkheart did that before Araki
Oh shit. The Bohemian Rhapsody arc started in 2002, Inkheart released in 2003. Conspiracy time. AND EVERYTHING IS A JOJO REFERENCE
Oh snap. Why am I not suprised xD
13:10 "We'll see how that goes"
lol.
Okay I am excited to check this out now. I don't often go out of my way to catch shows that aren't on Crunchyroll so I probably would have never caught on to it without this video.
