    ---
    What is the most common way to enter the water as a scuba diver? Well, if the title didn't give it away, it is the Giant Stride. The Giant Stride is the most common way for divers to enter the water from a boat, from a dock, and from basically any platform. While backroll entry, front roll entry, side roll entry, beach entry (wading into the water), and others are also seen, the giant stride is by far the most commonly practiced technique. Use this video as a scuba diving refresher before your next dive trip!

    Strap on a Rubber (or Silicone) Weight Belt with a Marseilles Buckle, and it will not accidently come off! They also compensate for wetsuit compression, so your belt will not loosen at depth.

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  11 месяцев назад

      I’ll look into them! Most buckles don’t fail until they do though 😜. I’m sure those are very well made, but I think the habit isn’t a bad thing to ensure your straps or SPG/console are secure on entry.
      Thanks for the suggestion!

    Great point you made about how scary it can be to see and hear someone hitting a tank while doing an entry. I see more and more DM’s and instructors giving folks a “push” to help clear the way. Not a bad idea at all. On a another, unrelated note, I’m hoping you can pass on your opinion with this one. What is your take on recreational divers using regulator necklaces (for primary)? Standard recreational setup with Octo secured, but primary on a necklace for convenience. I fully agree that training for a standard reg recovery is essential, but I also see the merits of having a necklace for your primary once you’ve finished training. Giant stride or shore entry are two examples where a necklace could be convenient. Easier to find my reg if it’s right under my chin at all times! I’m interested in your take. Keep up the great work… 10k not far off at all!!

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  11 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks, yeah the tank hit is scary as heck and I’ve seen it knock people out cold. Very not cool. I actually do a little push with my OW students usually depending on the student. If you’ve taken a lot of classes or are an instructor/DM, you know what I mean when I say you can tell the students that may need a little push due to nerves and such.
      I have never seen a set up with a primary in a necklace or secured at all except in a long hose setup for recreational, technical, or side mount diving. Ironically I’m doing a video on regulator recovery very soon as part of these recent series on “refresher” type of content, and to add to the irony someone else just asked me to make a video on a newer dive config called “semi-tech” which is long hose configuration / hogarthian on recreational dives (GUE, UTD, and I think another agency does this some some extent or another).
      I think my current take is that you should dive what’s comfortable and widely known and adopted. That’s somewhat vague of an answer, but for example two long hoses (a primary and octo) is not a standard widely known config and I can’t think of a reason to do it. However people that come up with those configurations like hogarthian have all had those set ups well tested in many scenarios and they’ve been proven to be solid. The idea of a primary being secured in a necklace or clipped off via bolt snap when not in a regular tech set up (long hose with my redundant second stage in the necklace, or long hose clipped off and switching to necklace for sidemount) sounds weird. I also can’t find an immediate fault in it. Have you seen people dive this way? I’d be really interested in reading about it.
      Oh and finally, I can’t believe 10k is coming. I started the channel in December 2022 and the idea of 1k in a year seemed far fetched. The support has been overwhelming and I am planning a big channel update/thank you video for 10k subs. This is the first time I’ve said that publicly so you’re the first to know, along with whomever reads this comment 😅
      Thank you for your support, encouragement, and most of all continuing to watch my various videos and engage with them to keep me motivated too and to give me more ideas on what else to make content on. 🙌🤿🎉🤙

      @@CircleHScuba great information and thanks for the reply! I’ve not seen the necklace used by anyone yet (not that recall at least), but I’ve noticed several other scuba channels that mentions the possible merit of necklaces for rec diving. Most seem to lean towards a “standard” non-tech setup while using a necklace. I think the idea is basic Reg recovery in the water and the primary being conveniently located pre-dive entry as well. We still dive as we always have - no necklace. But I’m wondering what the overall opinions are - especially from professionals like yourself. Thanks a lot for the input!

    I recommend not having your heel too close to the edge of the dock. I saw someone barely clear the dock when their heel slipped because the diver entering before them splashed the dock and it became slippery.
    I aim to have my toe box right over the edge and, when it's safe, fully commit with your stride.

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  11 месяцев назад +3

      Good points. It’s a balance though because if you’re too far back you won’t clear the dock or edge of the boat either and that tank smack will knock you out cold

      I totally thought of adding that and decided to cut it haha. Thanks dude! Glad to see you sticking around, one of the OG fans, though I haven’t even hit one year on the channel yet so OG of the OGs? Haha.
      I am definitely trying to balance building a backlog library/catalog of new diver / refresher content while trying to throw in some listical/informational stuff for everyone too and then general things that applies regardless of experience level.
      I still have 100+ videos to create in my idea list 😅, which at one per week means I have 2 years of content to do 😱
      I prioritize some based on comment asks of course too, and I have even more ideas weekly that I think of, so this train has no end in sight 😅
