Just try and picture that...you’re a burglar, you sneak into someone’s house...and a f**king guard duck charges you going QUACK QUACK QUACK QUACK! Lmfao that’s hilarious!
I can confirm that Peking ducks are AMAZING pets to have! I used to have two, but sadly one died pneumonia. Regardless, I still have one and he's just like a dog but with feathers, haha. He's the shyer of the two but he loves to be cuddled and petted. I wasn't able to potty train my ducks but I was able to train them to only stay in the backyard, which fascinates all my neighbors and anyone passing through the neighborhood. I grew up with my ducks so I'm still really close to the one I have right now. It's very similar to a baby growing up with a puppy :) Peking ducks also have relatively long lifespans, so if you're looking for a companion and like birds, Peking ducks are great to have around for love and company. My duck will be 16 years old this coming Spring. Isn't that nuts?! Thanks for the informational video! I really learned a lot about my little boy from it! :)
OMG this is good to read hahaha I have 6 ducks and 3 are pekins and they don't like being petted but they are such a joy to watch! they are so cute and fat. One of my pekins have a bumblefoot though =( Anyways they'll turn 2 next month. So nice to hear from a duck lover. Good luck to you and your ducky =3
My boy is like a toddler, I have to carry him for an hour when I get home. He will sit in my lap as long as I let him. My girl could take me or leave me, she's not that attached to people, but she's not scared of them either.
I think a duck is superior to a dog in terms of being a guard animal for one simple reason. If a burglar looks in through a window and sees a dog barking at him, that's to be expected, they'll just run away. If they look inside and see a fucking duck quacking at them, they're going to sit there for a few minutes at least trying to figure out if what they're seeing is real, or if they're losing their mind. Easily long enough for police to arrive on scene and arrest the perp.
I have Peking ducks! As pets. My little flock got up to 6 ducks at one point. I did my research and I had always read that domestic ducks(or obviously*any* ducks really) CANNOT be potty trained?! However, one of my females sat on a clutch of eggs and would NOT relieve herself while in the nest. So I knew it *had* to be possible somehow. But everything I read confirmed that they cannot be trained for a litterbox or to hold it until they get outside because the muscle in place that controls that function is absent in ducks. But throughout the years I noticed that I could *not* be imagining the fact that my Silverback Apple yard drake named Reggie😊, would be happily snuggling in my lap(with an old towel between us) until he suddenly just HAD to get off and onto the ground. At first, I'd try to figure out why he seemed so spooked and would try to comfort him in hopes he'd stay on my lap......but nope. He was getting himself on the ground and that was it. And after a while of this scenario happening, I noticed he would poop shortly after he was safely on the ground. I thought it was a coincidence and joked how his English breed made him so very polite. But...nope,...eh-uh. It was too much like clockwork to NOT be intentional. So🤷....but HOW?! How do you litterbox train a darn duck?? I imagine it has to be trained from day 1, same with making sure they get handled a lot as a duckling to make them truly domestic as adults. (Which is exactly one month later. 😂)
although he is right about ducks being great pets, as i have 2 blue Swedish ducks, beauties... but they cannot be potty trained.. they can wear diapers.. but they do not have sphincter muscles.. so they poop everywhere.. they cant help it.. dont even know its happening.. hah
They Pekin ducks not Peking ducks, not unless you cook them Peking style. You can not toilet train a duck as they have no sphincter to control said toileting. They are amazing pets if you get them very young so they imprint on you. First 4 days is best.
I found a few things incorrect with this video 1) Pekin, not Peking, Peking duck is a dish 2)Pekins were bred from the mallard, so they were always around and fed by humans. Their size is not due to the fact that people feed them, but due to the fact that domestic ducks are bred to be big so they can be better on the table and they can't fly away 3)Please do not recommend ducks as pets just because they are unusual. That is never a good way to pick a pet, only get a duck as a pet if you truly love them. Other than that, nice video!
I think most people mean they're social so good to have around as pets. For example I consider ours pets because we love them as such, know their personalities and have no intention to use them for their intended purpose of meat birds. They stay outside but love us being out there and will quack outside the window when they want attention.
Keep them in garden cuz they poop everywhere But yes they are very friendly and they play along with you, you can hand feed them Also they are otherwise quiet
Yes, Peking is the style of how they are cooked. Pekin duck is the breed. So you are right. They are great ducks to have around, they have funny personalities, but can be greedy sometimes.
How are you calling yourself a nature guy and working for the Billings Gazette as some kind of journalist and calling them PEKINGS? PEKIN! NOT PEKING. PEKIN is a duck, PEKING is the old name of BEIJING, CHINA. It was changed in 1979 Please and thank you.
Sir that's American Pekin duck not Peking duck. Please not the spelling 'g' and note the difference between two ducks. 1.American Pekin(large) = Chinese Peking x Aylesbury duck. 2. Chinese Peking (small)
Great Video. I have Khaki Campbells (a lot like Mallards). Prepare a duck egg exactly like a deviled chicken egg and I promise that you will never go back to chicken eggs again. Your deviled eggs will make you famous at church socials or any covered dish event. The taste is out of this world and you will notice it with the first bite. BTW my ducks have so much personality and character and each hen lays about 300 eggs a year.
I'm thinking about getting a couple female Peking ducks this spring to raise as egg laying ducks, funny I can digest duck eggs but chicken eggs I can't unless their baked into food already but hard boiled, poached or fried nope.
I have 9 Pekin ducks, 3 Rouen ducks , and a magpie. Love ducks
They are so cute! Could never eat such a beautiful creature!
blonddali peking ducks are the cutest
If I had 1, which I do want 1, I could never eat him/her, but I could eat a different 1. No disrespect to ur beliefs or anything
Tastes good though

I'd be more worried about a goose lol
I have 2 ducks and i love Them and it's True! They Do Protect me! And they're both Potty trained and they follow me anywhere i go.
How can I potty train my 1 Pekin ducks?
Ducks do not have sphincter muscles and have literally no control of their defecation/urination so no you did not potty train your ducks, stop lying.
@@_Anna_Nass_ ikr all birds are like that idk how the heck thats even possible

JadeReignhart we had mine for a year and a half but we moved and gave them away

_Who needs dogs when you have DUCK!_
The duck is so chilled out aha
I bought a pair 2 weeks ago. They were 2 months old.
This is the first person who's said they can be potty trained.
Ducks are simply far too cute to eat.

Peking duck is what's on a Chinese menu. The live animal is called "Pekin" Duck. Lose the G at the end dude.
lmao I agree with all of the video but I laughed thinking about my two pekins trying to defend my housr
just a pekin duck or training them, like he said.(the most I could do is teach them that they can’t leave the yard)
