Linnea I don’t want to be a downer but a quick word of warning . Watch Akela closely when the coyotes are active . One will act playfully to draw a dog out and away from you, then the pack will move in to overtake . Even a large dog such as Akela can be taken. I lost my dog in this way.

But I must say, as we watch the videos, Linnea is always looking around, knows her surroundings. She is rocking this. Some watching this, like me in managed lifestyles, we do what we want, but within boundaries. She's is a western woman off the grid. Brave.

Add some mobile home straps to tie this down. Also, up-hill, add a rain diversion of some sort - rocks, trough, cement blocks. You've also made a perfect covered home for many creatures. Get some 1/4" steal mesh fencing (rabbit fencing), and cut to fit between your foundation rim and the ground (2" below ground) to keep stuff out from under. Not sure what you're building is going to be (home, shed, etc.). If it's going to be a home, you'll want to foam-board the bottom to help keep warm. Keep up the van life...stay happy!

Linnea, just in the event you don’t know…..the coyotes are mimicking the sounds of an injured animal to lure Akela to them, or any other animals, to kill them. I hate to be that blunt, but that’s the truth. The coyotes do know that Akela is there…..just be sure that she stays close to you. They may come closer, but not likely during daylight hours. I certainly wouldn’t let her outside at night unless she’s close. I’m so excited for you and your new truck - it’s a gem!!

After watching this I realized that no one actually mentions how to measure or size construction to make measuring and building a bit easier.
I always wondered why construction workers would say "16 on center" when measuring spacing the studs rather than just saying 16" apart. The reason is that construction measurements are all centered around the 4 foot by 8 foot panel.
Studs in the floor and walls are spaced 16 inches on center. The on center tells you where to line the edge of the panel when mounting it.
With the edges of the panel lined up in the center of the stud,
4 feet can be nailed too, and supported by 3 studs, whereas 8 feet can be nailed too, and supported by 6 studs.
This standard was initiated to speed up the building process.

having wood on the ground is a huge invitation for termites to come running. I would use concrete piers , which is nothing but a post hole filled with concrete and a metal attachment to connect the wood to that concrete, to hold the whole thing up off the ground. also it helps to prevent high winds from taking your structure away.

Don't beat yourself up about making mistakes. We were all born knowing nothing and have all had to learn from mistakes. Tongue and Groove sheeting is used for subfloor to add strength between floor joists and not have free floating seams. If I may make a recomendation..It may benefit you to put some metal or wire mesh skirting around it that has contact with the ground...then cover that up with rock to keep the mice and rattlesnakes and other critters from occupying the underside of your studio. It's fun to watch how excited you are to finally get something established on the property.....enjoy the process.

Always order more than you need. If you think you need 14 2x4’s…. get 18; if 4 sheets of plywood is required, get 6. You’re in the early stages of building with NOTHING on your land, the chances of any extra wood going to waste at this point are a solid ZERO. If you don’t use it on this build, you will 100% use it on another. Unless the hardware store is 5 minutes away, always get more… 20% more is a good number. Cheers 🤠👍🏼☮️

As a builder you always have to get your plywood to line up on the joists or studs the best way to fix it is to cut the plywood back to halfway on top of the joists on each side and put back a larger piece that will span the full 16” i know its cheaper to put blocking but it won’t be nearly as sturdy and it will also be more work then u think. I hope this helps

You so remind me of myself at a younger age. I didn't know what I was doing but love to build stuff.
I didn't get empty land but I bought my house , age 30 yrs old, with my father's estate funds. And no good man to help. I did many repairs myself learned to hang lights, lay flooring, paint, fix plumbing, replace drywall. All felt so good to accomplish, just like your doing. I'm so proud of you. I found good friends to help with things that were to big. And hired in people to fix a/c , new roof, n siding.

The second vehicle I ever owned was a stick shift little Ford ranger with a long bed. One of my biggest regrets was selling that truck! My dogs and I have a lot of memories in that truck! I hope you love yours like I did mine and I can't wait to hear what you name her!
My Little Red ranger was Gretchen.

Akela’s face while you’re figuring out how to drive the truck 😂. I’m dying. Then the wheel barrow too? Oh my gosh. 😆

You are a top girl. Yes you need the support on the OSB. From now I would try to design all your walls and maybe extending the platform to avoid any cuts. Ceilings height 8foot, etc. cheaper and faster. Also you may want to consider sips structures. Easy to erect, weight bearing and fully insulated. Also very cheap compared to other solutions. Good luck.

Seriously, you and @vanwives need to collab as they're similar. They've learned a lot in the years they were doing everything with their cabin.

I have 9 dogs. The smallest is an 8 pound "Morkie" = Maltese X Yorkie. She does Not have a yippie voice. . .but a nice deep woof. And she 'thinks' she is a Giant Great Dane!! She is the first one to charge the fence when our neighbor's quiet boxer comes outside. I get a good giggle every day💜.

Akela is afraid of the wheelbarrow? Not the 642 COYOTES howling at night, just the wheelbarrow. Ever since you calmly mentioned the howling in the distance, all I can see now is a coyote Toga party as they set the dinner table. By the way, my arms are killing me from helping you lift those boards (in my mind}.

Linnea keep doing you! Your an inspiration to a lot of us! I'm a former Special Forces soldier, and I admire the strong ass woman you are. Love watching what you and Chris are building. Forget the haters. Looking forward to future videos. ❤ Lost my father when I was 19. I know your pain.

Just a quick comment since you're building a wood structure exposed to the ground. You might consider buying a jug of Boracare or other borax based wood treatment to spray all your exposed lumber with to prevent providing termites an easy home. Love watching the progress!

How funny watching Linnea get acquainted with driving the truck. I learned to drive on a manual transmission and thereafter only bought cars that were manuals. However, manual transmission vehicles are now so hard to find. Linnea is so clever and resourceful, even when she says she doesn’t know what she’s doing. I loved watching Linnea talk about how content she is just to be sitting on her land watching the evening turn into night, taking in the sights and sounds of her surroundings, knowing that having more material things isn’t necessary when your heart and soul are happiest just to be one with nature.

I NEED Akela. There are TWO wheelbarrows that have invaded my backyard and I fear them too (actually I fear all the work I have to do with them so if Akela can scare them off, I would be grateful). Love your new wheels!

Learning to drive with manual transmission took me 6 months of driving lessons to be able to take the test, so you are doing well.
