Either I'm getting older or the metroidvania genre is starting to cater more and more to an audience which is requesting brutally difficult games. Whereas exploration was the focus of the genre, more and more of these games are starting to have either extremely heavy-hitting enemies or tight and unforgiving platforming or BOTH.
Well some of the 'soulslike' ones are the best in the genre, think grime, blasphemous and the last faith and the platforming with the ori's is not that hard but a lot of fun. No suprise it is that way although i love a casual one every now and then like islets for example :)
@@d00mnoodle24 Oh, I do enjoy a bit of a challenge myself, I'm rather fond of the Bombservice opus (Momodora IV and V, Minoria) but I'm not a fan of precision platforming. I had to delist "Akatori" once I tried the demo, because its platforming is pretty brutal, especially the vertical traversal. But why does practically EVERY new metroidvania have to be unforgiving? Akatori, Afterimage, Monster Boy, Astral Blade - the awakening, the old and new Hunter X... Momodora V was hard but not frustratingly so. Edit: Crowsworn is another which seems to promise pretty brutal combat and platforming both in one package.
@@RoadKamelot2nd afterimage i found to be very easy only at the end did it get stupidly hard, didn't try the others as i'm generally not as into anime stuff
I'm learning metroidvania genre so this is quite the list! To be honest some of the games look unoriginal and not quite polished yet. But thanks for the list, will try some of your recommendation
I hate how everyone calls everything a HK clone, even things that aren't even remotely similar. However with lotus knight, i agree, the similarities are very obvious. But that's the only game where i agree with the HK crybabies
How can you promote Deviator? They literally stole art and assets from Hollow Knight.. You want an example? 1:12 LITERALLY the Hunter from HK. You mention that Lotus Knight looks very familiar but do not say anything about stolen art in Deviator. Wow.. I'd rather play Lotus Night inspired by HK than DEviator that literally stole half the assets from HK.
@@d00mnoodle24 You must be dumb to defend a game that stole art and literally characters from Hollow Knight. Or you just defend theft. Shame on you. 1:12 LITERALLY the Hunter from HK. And that's just the start, I can keep going. It's okay to get inspired by something. It's NOT OKAY to steal..
Amazing list but i already have all of them on my wishlist :P

It's partly because of miss genre and partly because 'souls-like' games are in big parts metroidvania with high difficulty.
Yes and Hollow Knight lol

Glad you like it bro! I'm waiting for your metroidvania reccommendation ^^
You are missing Chronicles of the Wolf
Oh yeah, thanks for mentioning it
Lotus Knight is more or less a Hollow Knight reskin.
It's a shame people are copying HK to this degree.

So is Deviator.
Your best 🙏👌👆👍👏
Thank you ^^
Good Good Good Good
Eden guardian is blasphemous

Now that you mention it, the area also looks really familiar lol
@@Exvarghra It's a plagisarism/stolen art shiteshow. Some youtubers already covered this topic.
my steam wishlist is pretty big atm
Deviater plagiarize much?
is hollow knight copy
Not at all, it's very VERY parry based and feels very different, you toxic HK fanboys are so quick to judge and whine

so from 15 we got around 6 Hollow Knights, 4 is Castlevania/Bloodstained, and 5 is unique ones.
