Yes me 750 Norton atlas when mick worked there as sales man and Jo was in parts
No sign of graffiti and litter, maybe photographer avoided those places ?
No, my brother took the photos that were relevant to my memories. If there'd been graffiti etc, I'm sure he'd have included it for me! 👍☺️
Hi Led Zeppelin. Sorry I can't reply directly to you. Yes it is the Plaza. I believe it burned down in the early 1990's. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Is that Rutherford secondary modern in the second photo? It looks familiar but I'm wondering if I've got it mixed up with another school from the time. Many thanks for posting these by the way.
Hello Paul. Yes, it's Rutherford Grammar School on the West Road. My brother went there in the 1960's. I believe it changed names some time later. Thank you for watching and your kind comment, much appreciated! 👍
@@DavidGarside you're welcome David. I went to the grammar school further along the road in the 1970s. I remember my shock at seeing loads of Asian kids on the same bus going along the West Road for the first time in my young life.
I had much to learn of course 😁
Yes, many changes in the area since then. My brother was the clever one, I went to Slatyford Comp 😁, left in 1970.
@@paulsnaith9677 Nowadays the Asian kids will get amazed to see a white kid on the bus I expect.
@3:10 is that the Gibraltar rock ?
It is. 👍 I have another video from around the area on here too.
Bought my first bike from Ken's.
I (with friends) spent many an hour drooling whilst looking through the windows. Nowadays you can't see in to the shops properly because of security shutters etc....a real shame ! Thank you for your comment. ☺
The hill is shit hole these day..
Compare that to it in the 80s when out was fun... Choka blok with motorcycles and the rest... 👍
Gibraltar rock pub still there but not moving with the times.
Not dog friendly and the carvery is pants....
Look how clean Benwell was... WAS!
Richie the mage Me too. Just over £500 for a Suzuki 250 GT in 1974 if I remember correctly.
@@pww7872 Seems that Asians love to live in squalor and litter.
I was born and bred in Benwell and nowadays it it full of litter and rubbish on the streets.
Is that 1st School Slatyford ?
Yes Andy. I also have a video on here of the school too, taken in 1991.
David Garside , that's awesome. I attended Slatyford for a couple of years around 1977. Sweet memories.
Andy Cowx. Thanks Andy. Glad you liked it. I left there in 1970. Did you find the other video?
Andy Cowx. Here's the link for you..... ruclips.net/video/rQabOzIpWhg/видео.html
I started at Slatyford in 1980
He Northumberland coastline is the most spectacular in the UK. Devon/Cornwall are both beautiful but Northumberland e.g. Amble, Sea Houses etc.. Unreal

Now that's the newcastle I remember and worked in as a girl 😢
No problem. Sorry I couldn't help.
Pity you didn't have photos of my old school at Chapel House.
billyrich70. I think I've got one of Mary Trevelyan somewhere.....I don't know where your school was as I only went to the above and Cambridge Street school.
I think he means st aidans school in chapel house mate.
@@DavidGarside do you have any of westerhope area?
I don't I'm afraid. Only around the areas I lived or visited. Sorry !
@@DavidGarside no worries thanks for the reply!
Id yhr second pic the old Rutherford Grammar ?
Yes, Rutherford Grammar, my brother went there. Thank you for watching.
The past is another country, they do things differently there.
They ruined central station by making it a pedestrian only accessible it was much better when you could drive right up to the entrance
It was better but there was always tons taxi's blocking everywhere. Now the toon is a one way system with stupid bus lanes which you don't realise until you get round the corner and they have bus lane cameras rigged up too, ready to send you a nasty surprise in the post.
Although I don't live up there now, I still come up now and again, and also watch TTTV at home. I know what you mean about the Bus Lane leading down to the m/way and also the no-car lanes. When I lived there you could drive both ways in Northumberland St....how things change eh? Thank you for watching.
And every one went there to go to photo booth to get a picture taken .
I loved old station ,it is not !!!the same place now 😊
I just thank God you haven't got the picture of me in 1980.
Sitting on a swing in the summertime in leopard skin trunks, 😂
That's probably a good idea not to have photos like that. 🤣
Innocent times as a child from the wst end.. 👍
(west Denton swimming pool was amazing when growing up)
Well.....as it happens! 😄😂😂
Seriously though.....thank you for your comment. I wish I'd done so much more of this type of thing.....hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it !

It is, it's always going to resonate with some, and some more than others... It does me!
Akin to pathe news films etc minus being narrated by a 'posh' bloke, historical and informative.. 👍
Great to see people have this stuff still...
I went to Montague baths quite a few times.....took some courage to go off that top board ! We mostly used Northumberland baths though as we lived near the town and it was nearer there....having said that...the no 2 bus went along Westmorland Road and terminated at the baths.....
I goto Newcastle college tryvelean build
It was defintiley a thing to go up westgate road occassionally stopping to look at bikes... ha hah
I spent many an evening staring at the bikes with my mates after getting chips from the chippy on Elswick Road.....
The name rings a bell. Did he live in Mulberry Place ( no 6 or 7 ?), motorbikes and scooters and later a skip lorry ?
