I've had one of these resurrection plants for about 12 years. His name is Dan. Supposedly they live hundreds of years. I don't know how old Dan is. He grows VERY slowly. He is now the size of a small dinner plate when open. This type is also known as a Jericho Rose in the middle eastern part of the world, which is where Dan is from. It is true that they can live without water and sunlight for a long time, up to 7 years! I only water Dan a handful of times in the heat of summer, when he has a chance to dry out completely each time. They can be susceptible to mold and fungus if left in water or very damp environments. Another interesting bit about this species, they LOVE hot water. If you immerse it in cold water, its fine but it will take a while to open. Because these plants come from the severe heat of the desert, when they do get the water it is usually very hot. You can even put boiling water on this plant and it will open much faster, and even thrive. The boiling water helps get rid of fungus and mold as well. I only give Dan boiling water when I take him outside for the summer, or when I'm about to bring him in the house for the winter. Dan is a very interesting and carefree type of plant. You almost can't kill him!

That's probably actually how it happened, outside of a couple areas subs dont really have much to do and dont really *need* to be in any certain place so every now and again theyll do stupid stuff like this, try to land helicopters on one, "test their comparable speeds" (race) etc... not very often but hey, when you have an extra 500 bil to blow through and 15 more subs than you need research is pretty much all you can do... and it might come in handy in the next year or two before the ice sheets are gone so may as well try it while you can
