  • @Shendue
    @Shendue 8 лет назад +21

    Developers or modders should have took note. To make the game more realistic, Russo's feedback as an actual booker is amazing.
    Adding commercials to the game would be nice.

    Russo makes an excellent point about the lack of cliff hangers. You always leave them one more.

  • @hehungit
    @hehungit 9 лет назад +117

    As a TEW player who actually understands what you're saying, this is kinda painful to watch. Too much talking about it in terms of game mechanics.
    Just let Russo say what he wants to do, then interpret what he's doing into the game mechanics. Like instead of asking "what storylines do you want" why not just have Russo book the show, then before you run the show add storylines based on what logically follows to satisfy the game mechanics. Instead of asking Russo to explain segments in terms of who will be involved, just have him tell you the segment and then make an angle that fits what he's saying.
    I guess it gets better as it goes along but I dunno why this wasn't the initial thinking on how to do this.

They are not forc everyone as you will probably find out. Also in 2014 during a charity live stream, many of their fans were trying to get retweets for the stream they came along this man Vince Russo who wanted in their Skype call. And once he was in their Skype call he helped them book EWR for about 2 hours. Vince didn't even know about EWR or even TEW until that little event happened last year.

    Just a couple notes on the game mechanics that Nick didn't get 100% right. First you're not limited to people in a storyline, you can have 2 or 200, but each individual worker can only be in 1 storyline at a time. Second time no longer effects if an angle is major or minor in TEW13 it being so is decided by the angle itself; for example a mod might have promos as major but a guy backstage walking as minor, whether the promo is 1 min or if the guy walking is 30 it won't matter. Third decisive finish doesn't mean the match isn't competitive only that it's a clean finish, winner being kept strong makes them have more offense and dominate is a squash; note though that having someone dominant in a match longer than 6 min before entrances will get penalized as it would seem boring to the crowd to have one guy doing all the offense for 7+ minutes. Finally bringing the camera to the announcers after Bret collapses like Russo had in mind would work because TEW weighs shows so that the best angle is more important to your grade than the others regardless of if it's last or first; however for matches you want your best match to be last because your main event and to a lesser extent your semi-main count more than the rest. Despite these errors Nick does a pretty good job though.

    • @danielarntz1211
      @danielarntz1211 9 лет назад +2

      Small correction to OctoberRaven's comment, each worker can only be major in 1 storyline, but they can be in multiple storylines in minor roles. The also can be in a storyline in a major role, and several storylines in minor roles.

    Interesting stuff. I think Vince totally ignores the concept of building tension in his stories. He starts everything at full speed, which gets people to turn the show on, but he ends up with nowhere to go. At the beginning of storylines, it doesn't take much to draw people's interest.
    Think of the nWo angle, which started with Scott Hall simply walking through the crowd and making a few comments to the announcers. Finding those right small moments, then escalating week to week, seems to be the way that shows build momentum and draw audiences in.
    As is, giving away Hall vs. Nash in a street fight and Hogan vs Bret Hart in your first show, with clean finishes, makes it very hard to convince people to shell out money for your pay-per-view.

  • @williamwhitejr.5379
    @williamwhitejr.5379 7 лет назад +3

    @Vince Russo Hopefully it's clear by now, as it's two years after the fact, LMAO, but one of the concepts is to string pieces, like a puzzle, of the story together to form an actual segment. The reason is because the computer doesn't get the idea of "I want Hogan and Nash to have a title match and Hogan pushes match with his finger and Nash falls down and Hogan covers him for the win. Meanwhile, Goldberg, who couldn't get in the building earlier, shows up and cleans out the ring. Hogan jumps Goldberg and Goldberg reverses and hits the spear. Goldberg goes to Jackhammer Hogan, and Hall hits the ring to save Hogan. Luger hits the ring and beats Hall out. As Goldberg goes to Jackhammer Hogan, Luger hits him from behind, revealing his true allegiance to the nWo." This would be one segment, but in TEW it has to be broken up into several incident segments that represent the whole of the one real life segment.
    Funny thing is, I just came across this game a few days ago. I had the 2005 version, which is free on the Grey Dog (Adam, the creator's) website. I was trying to find out how to do something and came across this. It impressed me enough that I bit the bullet and bought TEW 2013 on the Steam gaming platform. 8D

    Here's what I would've done if I was walking Vince through this: I'd set up angles for the first night, see which ones the crowd reacted most strongly to, and then the next show I'd start setting up the storylines for those. That's more like the way modern TV booking works in Vince's defense; they throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks, and what sticks becomes a "storyline" while the rest is dropped or put off. The game's system is based more on territory booking, where the booker looks at some guys he wants to give a shot, and then travels around selling their feud and seeing how different crowds react to it. It's why guys like Mantell or Cornette won't immediately drop a storyline that isn't working. They're from that old school era where that long-term booking was the norm, while newer guys like Vince were more visceral and "MTV" with their booking.

    I love the TEW 2013 January 2002 Mod, so much potential.
    I'm now in August, and to see how different my booking has turned out compared to the actual 2002 booking is astounding.
    My shows are usually never worse than a B-, though heaT sometimes only garners a C or a C-. (y)

    I have owned several versions of this game and had 2013 since it came out, never a played a real life mod but so tempted to do this one and compare i how would book WCW with how Vince himself will book it, its a cracking game but can be so time consuming, even found myself making notes at work when ideas for storylines come into my head.

    You guys really need to work on the format because this was painful to watch. Maybe setting up your TEW shows in advance, then talking us through your thought process retrospectively would work better.

      To be fair, this was their first episode and both (especially Vince) were trying to get a feel for how TEW works. Give it 2 or 3 episodes, let them get a feel for how the game's mechanics work, and I'm sure this format will run more smoothly.

    I think he would have saved a lot of headaches if he just made a huge stable called The Locker Room with everyone one in the company. Then they could just use that for segments.

    Hey Vince, Will we get another episode in the VIP section soon?

  • @Cutty2112
    @Cutty2112 9 лет назад +5

    This was really entertaining, but I wish you guys would have shown the score at the end of this video rather than forcing us to buy the VIP membership. I would have understood if it was a 30 minute video, but 2.5 hours? I watched this whole video waiting for the final result and to not be given it after 2.5 hours of viewing does the exact opposite of what you intended - it makes me have zero desire to pay for VIP membership.
    I'm a fan of yours, Vince. If you had given us the score at the end of this video, you'd have gained a VIP subscriber.

    Just curious, though I do plan on getting the VIP section and have been thinking about it for a while now anyway, just waiting for my birthday so I have a little bit of money to throw away, what are the odds of ever making the whole set of videos free on RUclips after a couple months or so? I'm assuming low, but just asking to be sure since I've seen a couple of video channels do that in the past...

    • @THEVinceRusso
      @THEVinceRusso  9 лет назад +6

      Will give it some thought for sure. Def. want the promotion, but hopefully fans will think it's worth signing up to VIP for...not to mention all the other content on there. But def. not something out of the question. Just don't let that stop you from signing up! :)

      Vince Russo Thanks for answering the question, and I'm sure that these vids will motivate people to buy the Network. It was pretty much what pushed me into deciding to sign up for VIP first chance I get since 1) I want to watch all of these and 2) Even if you do decide to release all of them at a later date, I can't wait that long! xD Thanks for answering and I'll be getting VIP regardless.

    2:07:34 I thought Bret was going to collapse because he couldn't believe that he was finally going over Hogan without something coming up at the last minute to stop it, such as a freak meteorite from outer space hitting the area just as Hogan is about to tap, making the match a no-contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;*( No offence to Bret, it's just no secret how much he always wanted to beat Hogan and Warrior, but couldn't because they protected themselves too well contractually!!!!!!!! ;*(

    even with all its simplicity in comparison to this, I think ewr 2003 is better probably better than this game regardless of all its advancements. it was just enough, and at the same time complex and the key words here are TIME CONSUMING enough, but it was right after a point where pro wrestling as a popular commodity was at its peak, and I guess you could say a "boom" period. also take into consideration the feeling of those times, and with some of the best American and even/especially non-American pro-wrestlers of that time, either: still working, still active as a non-worker, or at least only semi-retired. maybe its just not replicable when you go backwards and try to make that happen. please tell me if you agree with this.
