  • American Airlines Group recently made a massive order for 260 new aircraft to boost their operations.
While the 85 firm orders, each for the Airbus A321NEO and the Boeing 737 MAX 10, were relatively unspectacular, their third aircraft in the order has raised a few eyebrows.
American has made a record-breaking order to add 90 of the Embraer E175 jetliners to its fleet with the option to add a further 43 in a move which has surprised everyone.

E2 needs to be authorized in the US. Great planes!

American Eagle would be ordering the -E2, but union scope clauses prevent that because it's over the maximum weight in the agreement. It's ridiculous because the -E2 is MASSIVELY more efficient. Those rules need to chance to get the greener model into service.

Makes more sense than A220. I still avoid RJ flights, with limited cabin baggage and lack of space.

I feel Boeing should have kept the 5 and 700 programs for that very reason

I think American Airlines needs to do some arm twisting on Capital with Congress on this weight clause. But 2 things maybe Boeing is putting some heat on the other side of the coin or the runways at these regional airports can’t take the additional 12,000lbs increase load of the aircraft landings of around 93,000lbs because of decades old civil engineering of runways. There might have to be a major government push to update runway impact loading at regional airports as the population dynamics change and people can work anywhere the choose with access to internet services and work from home , where ever that is. This could happen if the US Government quits spending overseas on foreign regional wars to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.
