  • In this video we will look at the recent development on ultra white paint that has 98% reflectance.
This paint can be applied on houses , building roof tops and roads to change not only the temperature inside the house but also reduce the urban micro climate.

I had an architectural ceramic frit film by the German maker Huper Optik installed on my Mazda. On the windshield, there was a small corner that was left uncovered to allow the state vehicle registration sticker to be displayed. In the sunlight, when I moved my hand along the forward edge of the windshield, the difference in the coated and uncoated portion of the window was amazing. Huper Optik frit-based films can reject up to 98% of infrared light (heat) and 99.9% of UVA and UVB while permitting 95% of visible light spectrum. They are a fantastic addition to an energy efficient home in a hot climate.
Note: I have absolutely no ties to Huper Optik or their products and have received no compensation of any kind for this (or any) endorsement of their products. Just a very happy customer!!!

Monolithic Domes Inc. did an experiment years ago with different coatings and found “limewash” was the most effective way to boost the reflective heat of their structures.

Does it need maintenance? i.e. does it get dirty and lose reflective ability?

would be interesting if roof shingles with this white preprinted on were available.
    wild cards:
    1)keeping the surfaces clean.
    2) degradation over time.

You could cover each shingle with LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) which should allow the infrared radiation to pass through while protecting the paint from moisture and debris.

Very interesting, informative and worthwhile video. A major concern with use of the highly refective paint on residential buildings is its possible toxicity. If you do a sequel video, this would be worth addtessing.

It's made of Barium Sulfate, same stuff you'd ingest when getting an CT scan or X-ray. So safe you can ingest it. I'd be more concerned with any other chemicals made to stabilize it.

I would be interested in an epoxy based paint version with this pigment for Yacht hulls and decks. In tropical latitudes AC is a challenge when not at a dock and plugged in. Many cruisers compensate with extra shade canvas when on mooring or at anchor. I wonder if this can be adapted and also, given how white it may be, would it create glare that would hinder navigation?

on the deck, I dont think white one would be a problem. They are already using it on the road.

I know, I have a client who works as a international importer for Saudi Arabia and was looking for something to cool down houses that they could use during construction.
I had designed them sheeting but they wanted something that was a one application protectant not a multilayered one even though I could have lowered the inside temperature by 3-5 degree

Has research been done on how much heat is absorbed into the planet via black asphalt?
On a hot sunny day I can walk barefoot on concrete ok but not on asphalt as it burns my feet .

What's the percentage filtering for UV window films?

    • @phillipshorter7751
      @phillipshorter7751 2 года назад +1

Since there is a lot less UV light than IR filtering UV out will have more benefit in terms of preventing sunburn and material degredation from UV than in reducing temperature. E-glass (IR blocking) windows however reduce the internal heat gain quite noticably.

Works great for southern latitudes, but in most places, you actually need that solar heat in winter, there's a conundrum. In small homes, it's probably best to have the black paint and pipes right over the south wall, and hide it with ultra white panels in summer only.

Still better than a single AC device burning 5 digits kilowatts a day. I'm curious about the abundance of the materials needed for this paint though.

White paints do reflect the light and heat back into the atmosphere and there is the problem heating the earth more we need to learn from nature which is to absorb the heat with green plant life for instance grass in the sun temp is 60 c tarmac over 100 c grass cools the heat more green paths, roofs, and even roads, using gaping in the roads with sedum planting inter planted at half the cost and no harmful side effects
