Speedometer trouble on scooter?

- If the cable is not broken, and the screw is tight, and everything is fine, then THIS IS THE PROBLEM.
As a matter of fact, if any one actually knows what this part is called, I would greatly appretiate it.
And here's one for the algorithm! Anybody who reads this make sure you reply as it helps with the algorithm.
literally 10 minutes away from spending 60$ on a new cable and gear! Came across this video and remember seeing that piece bent to poo inside the wheel when I was changing a tire! Didn't know what it was so I didn't mess with it! Well now I'm gonna save 60$ and mess with it. Thanx for your help!!!!!!

This was my problem exactly. The ring didn't look identical, but the tabs had bent and were free-wheeling in the wheel, therefore it didn't turn the speedo. Reshaped it, put it back together, and it works like a charm! Thanks for the video, man!

Order new Speedo taking ages to come watched this video so sorted metal thing out now works great video easy to follow and clear well done mate
Had the same problem on my Roketa a few years ago. Mine was all bent up too. 4000+ miles since I fixed it with pliers, still works fine. I think I can safely assume it was put on wrong in the factory. And I just recently replaced the stator that was damaged by a factory worker putting the wrong sized screw in it. Shows how little they really care about the quality of work they do.
the issue with the scooter I have was a little different but similar thank you again for making this video it saved me some time...
Wow, this fixed my speedometer right away. The previous owner tried to do this but put in the parts back in wrong.. that round metal thing was bent and shredded to shit. Got it all straighter out and my speedometer works great!

I think it's called a speedometer drive clutch. My Roketa was completely missing this part when I tried to diagnose the speedo problem. I made this part using a nylon spacer and two very short bolts, it's been on there like that for at least five years.
Damn good vid. Wondered about this as my 02 Honda Sabre had the grinding noise and floating spedometer. Thought it was that ring but so far I got lucky, just retorqued tire, removed both ends of cable and lubed, tightened it all back and it hasn't done it since
Thank you, I have a new bike - about 300 miles on it since new - and the speedometer has been off by about 8-10 mph since I brought it home. I am going to check this and I am willing to bet this is the problem.

Great video. My problem exactly. Except my gear destroyed itself, breaking in half and damaging the ring. Got a new gear to connect to the cable, but it didn't come with that metal ring, or the gasket.

Help. What is that ring called that connects the gear to the wheel? That washer thingy with the raised bits. Ours is trashed and we can't find one.

Mine is a 2011 model Kymco Like 125. Had speedometer problem. The speedometer either does not move or moves indicating a speed of 100 kilometer per hour when I know for sure I am only travelling at 40.. I checked the speedometer cable and found that the tip connected to the instrument panel is broken. Bought a new cable, installed it and after test driving my scooter with the new cable, the speedometer is too sluggish and would not return to zero at full stop. I will try to check based on your recommendations. Thanks.
Hey, what was the final outcome with your bike? My scooter is doing the same. Now, my bike is 50cc and the speedometer only goes up to 50 but now the speedometer goes all the way around past 50mph when I am only going 30mph. Plus the speedometer is making a loud annoying noise when it does this. Do you have any advice? I would really appreciate it. Please

On my Honda Shadow they call it a retainer for the gear box.
Nice video I have a Speedo cable that turns at the gauge but tried two gauges and gives no speed so I'll check that plate. Is their a way to fix a Speedo that isn't accurate I'm going to test it but I believe it's off by at least 5mph.

Well I have this problem I bought a rim from eBay JM Star Tomahawk II Kymco Panterra and it was hard to find the right one speedometer drive gear for this rim and can somebody help me out to find out the right one so I can order it

Well I took off my front wheel and sure enough that was the problem I took a hammer and flatten it back out now my speedometer works perfectly
Hi, is the mileage clock on the speedometer still works but the speedometer itself doesn't work, then could it be the that circular metal thing inside the wheel as shown on this footage?
+Stephen Luke That might be the cable. But i'm not sure. The 2 are connected I think. But then again, you could need a new speedometer, as I had this problem as well. I couldn't find the problem for some reason. So, I just purchased a new speedometer. (I am not a mechanic friend. lol I just learn first hand like most. And try to share with others. lol)
