Ya! This stuff works wonders. Been firedancin 20 years and technora IS the answer we've all been lookin for. Smooth, precise and easy to work with. I think the word is ultimate ductility. Definitely will up your art to the next level and beyond. Got a whole new range of possible techniques onto the 11th dimensional harmonic. Get some for your rigging and see for your self how awesome this stuff actually is. Chains suck. Clunky and funky.
Great vid on this awesome new material. Way thanks for this tip. I discovered technora at Ignight, 2018. Simply stated, it's way fun and even a lot SAFER too. Happy dancin !

I spin a lot, an hour everyday for the last few years (at least), yet i haven't made it to any flow festivals so i have not had a chance to use technora... anyways, i almost despise the feel of my fire poi (double link chain) compared to my pod poi. I don't care about fire as much as just flowing in general, but i would love if my favorite pair of poi were also my fire poi, because, let's face it, fire impresses people. I never feel as on point with my fire poi, they just don't feel as good. Is the basic advantage of technora that it helps fire poi feel much better? I think i am going to take the plunge and buy some because i have heard nothing but good things about technora. Any recommendations on technora thickness? As always, thanks in advanced for any response!

I notice that sometimes when I do throws with my regular poi, the knobs will occasionally hit the heads. I've been thinking about putting pomgrips on my fire poi, but was worried that the same might occur and then I'd suddenly be holding on to melted plastic. I was wondering if you could shed some light on this matter.

habojspade i doubt they will melt from a short tap like that. perhaps you can test it with a lighters flame if you're concerned.

+habojspade The poms are happily pretty heat resistant. I've had a couple unfortunate incidents in which I've dropped my poi and the handles have wound up in the center of the flame. The worst that's happened is some discoloration and a small amount of deformation. They have never been too hot to touch and have never melted in any way that was dangerous.

What are the advantages of technora? Couldn't one just use kevlar rope? Is technora softer and easier on the skin than kevlar? Or possibly more flexible?

+Sam Chaney Technically, technora IS kevlar rope. Here's the deal: kevlar is part of a family of synthetic fibers called aramids. Aramids by and large all have the same properties, but chemically can be created in a number of different ways. Different companies have come up with their own unique recipes and market them under different brand names, so kevlar, technora, and nomex are all chemically nearly identical, but marketed under different names depending upon the company manufacturing them. I'm not sure why technora was specifically chosen for these tethers, but if my understanding is correct you can use kevlar just as easily.

Great thanks for the info. I haven't really looked into technora much but from studying materials science, if it is identical to Kevlar (poly paraphenylene terephthalamide) then the only variables are fiber thickness and weave. Since I'm using it for leashes and not wick, I'll just get whichever has the thickest fibers and densest weave.

there are glass fiber in most kevlar wick/ropes, I think they will irritate your skin when wrapping, oh well the wick is kevlar with kerosine so it have the skin-irritating risk already :\ nvm

Kind of freaking outI got a pair from crispy clowns but it doesn’t have that silicone sheath and I have a performance in like a couple fucking days where would I get a silicone sheath quickly? Really not digging that fire coming up the rope.
