Absolutely sublime...cannot fault it... rolls and unfurls, seductively and alluring, it draws you in and envelops you totally! Loved this for years now.
At least to this old but not unsophisticated boy's ears, this is genius. I've been listening to unusual music since the early sixties: Jazz, rock, folk, johncage, celtic, world especially Indian and Malian, and the tremulous ways of combining them are my joys. I've been a dj and founder of an alternative radio station going into its 40th year. This is among the most wonderful pieces of music I have ever heard. I'm already over-listening to it. The sitar player does such a fine job. The Celtic voice and this wonderful old English with the almost jazz sitar and accompanying guitars and other stringed instruments, and fine violin and I think cello or bowed bass. Wow. Thanks so much to the original players. This is extraordinarily good, a marriage of Shakti and Planxty. I love it! Thanks to buzz834 and the Camb. F Fest. PS:I just watched the nex youtube: It is Mratin Carthy! He's a creative individual, isn't he?
Absolutely agree! I've always loved Steeleye's version of this song but this treatment of it is sublime.Just wish Imagined Village would get back together for one more tour as I missed them first time around.

A good story is still a good story no matter how much decoration these fine instrumentalists add. An oft told tale it is. What a fine singer. Thanks .
When I see people being creative like this I see the divinity of each individual shine through. Existence itself is the elephant in the room ;)
Well said
Excellent piece luv folk music, Imagined Village are brilliant!! nice post Bernard my good friend.
I now have divided loyalty having always loved the Steeleye Span version; but this is superbly atmospheric...
Beautiful! I had the pleasure of seeing them live in Cork last Saturday, Thanks for sharing this!

Tremendous respect for Mr Carthy.
Wonderful, ground breaking stuff, unfair to pick out anyone for praise, but love Chris Wood's vocals!
l am a great fan of Maddy Prior and Steeleye Span singing this song but this is so cool and chilled, it's brilliant !!!

Same here. Both versions are sheer magic.
Incredible version and arrangement for this traditional folk song. As good as the Steeleye Span, but Maddy Prior is singular
good stuff, thanks for the footage :)

Cool version! What a bazooka she has, sitar is it?
Sitar, I think.
Big up to the percussionist
