I traveled to Ghana, West Africa to attend a funeral for my mother-in-law and witnessed an amazing performance!! Professional dancing pallbearers proudly honored mom's "home-going" with breath-taking body movement, fancy footwork and incredible strength that would make any Ghanaian family proud.
    GO GHANA!!

West African (from Nigeria) here. This 'celebration of life' only happens if they die old and naturally. Young (and unfortunate) deaths, especially funerals that involve parents burying their offspring are never celebrated like this.
    EDIT:
Thanks for all the likes guys. I feel the need to add an important caveat. Not all African ethnic groups practice this (Nigeria alone has over 250 ethnic groups, Ghana has over 100). Also, you won't find this practice among African Muslims, who bury their dead within 24 hours

So rather than celebrate or mourn their passing, they celebrate their long life. That’s pretty neat, sort of what my grandfather told us to do after his burial.

I like the concept of a happy funeral. At least this makes sense for those of us who are sincere Christians. If a person whose body has expired was a believer in Jesus Christ it's supposed to be a sad but happy occasion since they are in the embrace of God and they are experiencing perfection so to speak.

    • @vidaappiah3188

Is this mourning. Jesus wept when Lazarus his friend died. Did it mean that Lazarus was a sinner that"s why Jesus wept? NO Death is an enemy of God. And he will swallow it up forever. Rev. 21 vrs 4

    • @dab0331
      @dab0331 7 лет назад +16

Vida Appiah Jesus wept because Lazarus' sister's disbelief. She said she believed but she was crying because she trully didn't believe deep down, or else she wouldn't of been crying. The same way Peter started to drown when he tried to walk on water. Jesus's reply was " Why did you doubt?"
Jesus ' saw her tears and his spirit was troubled. THAT is why he cried.
Death isn't God's enemy. It's his creation; to free you from attachment to the body.

dab0331 So you are saying that God is a liar Because the Bible Says Explicitly that God Cannot Lie and God in His Own Sacred Word the Bible states that death is his enemy Not his Chief enemy Because God's Chief enemy is the one with means to cause death so that make death the One True God's Enemy and what an Enemy the irony of it though is that God's Chief Enemy is also a God and so naturally he welcomes comments like yours.
Let me ask you an illustrative question if a weapon is in the hand of your enemy wouldn't it make that weapon your enemy keep in mind that contrary to people that may or may Not like a weapon the ONE TRUE GOD HATES any weapons and violence and death my friend is nothing but a Devastating violent WEAPON.
Check out what the ONE TRUE GOD says about death and its Root cause - Ps 11:4, 5-7; Pro 6:16-17; 1Co 15:26; Tit 1:2; Heb 2:14.
Well what is the point in dancing with a coffin full of dust contrary to what majority of people believe and think to be true that when a person dies that he or she goes to heaven is simply a complex Lie of GOD's Chief Enemy Because death came into the Equation after Adam Rebelled and Reject GOD's Commandment as such Sinned so than he chose Rebelliousness and death, so if or when any of us die we simply return the dust of the Ground Because death is Not a Reward Rather a Punishment that Adam brought upon himself and because Adam and Eve only had children after their Despicable Decisions and Actions there by death spread to all men - Ge 2:16-17; 3:19: Ro 5:12, 15-17, 18-21; 6:23.
However, Because GOD so Loved the World he Sent forth His only Begotten Beloved Glorious Mighty Living Holy Son Jesus Christ Who Gave his Precious, Priceless and Perfect Sacred Life in Benefit or to Redeem all mankind of SIN and Death. - John 3:16-17; 1Jo 4:14.
My sincere appeal to you is that for you to Do Contrary to Adam to Make a Firm Decision to Choose Life Rather than the Lie that spread like Gangrene but it's weak - John 8:32; Re 22:17.

I'm Ghanaian, and far from this being a 'tradition', it's something that has been imported from other cultues in recent years, rather like the practice of posing dead bodies at wakes. Wearing white at a funeral usually signifies the 'celebration' part of the funeral. White is worn when the deceased is either very young or very old. The whole dancing pall bearers thing, is pretty commercial. The family pays for them to dance, and the more you're prepared to pay, the more elaborate the dancing. I know loads of people seem to love it, but personally I find it undignified, and don't like it at all. But hey ho; different strokes eh?

My church you go in, pray, praise, read scripture, learn from your mistakes and try not to sin again when you leave. There is a head pastor and other smaller pastors who work for him. They separate the teens church from the main church because old people are boring.

I think a wealthy African American should hire these guys and bring them to the US to perform at his loved ones funerals. Like Morgan Freeman or Robert Smith. This is identity man, it actually looks really awesome and respectful, and bringing them to perform in the US would be a tremendous help for the pallbearer staff. Like, if you’re black you’re helping your kind and I’m saying this in the most respectful way. Hell, even a white guy should hire them, why not?
