Just had mine installed last week on my '24 Rubicon and love it! It's a great top, and we just had the hurricane roll through these parts with lots of heavy rain and wind...no leaks! Thank you Bestop!
Solid guide, I’ve never built anything but legos 😂, managed to throw this together in a decent amount of time. Only issues I had were missing screws and the quarter windows not wanting to be installed. Other than that it all went really really smoothly
Thanks for your patience, Austin! We are almost through all of our preorders. You can check with our CS department to see if they have an ETA on your order at 800.845.3567.
As a seasoned mechanic this was not an exceptionally difficult install however it was harder then it should have been. First problem is the part numbers did not match between the install instruction and actual parts for the brackets on the rear. Of course the brackets had the wrong part number and the arrows were stamped in the wrong direction so that resulted in an hour on hold with tech support because I assumed the wrong parts were in the box. The other thing was there were a few typos on the size of the Torx bit, 25 vs. 30, making it more difficult to make sure you were using the correct bolts. Once on the top looks great and works. Most of the Jeeps around here have the square back on the soft tops so I am looking forward to being different with the slanted back.
I love how this top looks and the windows seem to slid easier than my factory Sunrider top. I do not like that the top does not fold down lower (like the factory Sunrider). I am 5’3” and would not be able to see out the back window at all with the top pulled back. Can that top piece and frame easily be removed from the frame?
Great video which would have been very helpful when I installed mine a couple days ago. Only problem I ran into is that several of the part numbers did not match the instructions. And the up down arrows on the brackets say "up" but point "down".
Awesome video, so easy to follow and understand. Can't wait to get my soft top, should be delivered by the weekend, just in time for some nice weather!
I watched the video as I'm considering purchasing this top. I want to be able to put it on in the Spring and switch back to the factory hard-top in the Fall since I live up in the frozen tundra. But needing to super-glue a fastener is a little concerning. Do you really need to super glue it to keep it from coming loose?
This bolt doesn't tighten down on anything other than itself. I just used a little blue loctite and it was good to go. It sounds weird, but once you do it, it'll make sense.
This wasn’t a fun installation. Part numbers didn’t match, there was no forewarning that we should leave the top out in the heat to stretch out (had to find out through co workers), some areas didn’t line up well, there should have been bags for each individual bolt set (would shave 30 minutes off that “4 hour” install time), and the instructions weren’t exactly the clearest at times. HOWEVER, the top looks killer on my girls Jeep and she seems to be happy which is all I really care about, we were very glad that this video was here to help us. It was fun when things were going the right way.
yeah, I just installed mine and the instructions were so bad it was almost like someone tried to figure out how bad they could make them. 100% on the bolts being in bags. Most of my time was spend finding which bolt they were talking about in the instructions and figuring out if the instructions were incorrect or not or why part numbers were not accurate. I think I actually had two pages missing from my instructions. lol, what a mess. Looks great but Bestop should have an adult write a new instruction manual.
Section 17. My clip that goes at the top, on the first connection, keeps coming loose by 1.5inches when i slide the 1/4 section to the door frame. Any help would be great. Ive triple checked the assembly methode and made sure everything was on the correct side.
I just ordered and installed this top on my JL. Although I love the top, It was disappointing to learn that the grille inserts have been removed from the kit and the mesh pockets on the underside of the top have been removed. For a $2,5000 top, you would think Bestop could have saved costs somewhere else. These small details/features are what set Bestop above the rest in my opinion.
At 28:38 the clip pops out when he’s securing the front of the window. This happens on my right window and it doesn’t seem to be a good fit. If I keep it where the clip stays in I can not secure the front of the right window. To me it seems to me cut wrong. The left window is easy, right window is impossible.
@@CW2hydra1982 Thanks for the feedback. I was able to keep the clip secure by grabbing the rail and pulling it downward. At the same time I twisted the rail outward to engage the plastic strip and successfully complete installation of both rear quarter windows. We will be having hot weather tomorrow so I’ll leave the Jeep outside and hopefully relax the material a little. Thanks again!
Is it normal for the top of the back windows to pop out of place when you’re latching everything down? Because I saw it happen in the video and the same thing keeps happening to me
The 80mm bolts for the door rail assemblies end up flush on top in the rear, but stick up about 3/4 inch in the front. When I close the top, this doesn't seem to serve a purpose. Why weren't the bolts for the front door rail assemblies shorter? That and the upside down stamps on the sport bar mounting brackets make it a more difficult installation, because we spend way too much time second guessing what we're doing and searching the parts bags to make sure we aren't missing something. What's worse is that this lack of attention to detail makes me doubt the overall quality of the product, and likewise, the company.
When removing my top to install the hard top, how can I prevent my lift assist assembly from springing 180 degrees. This makes it difficult to reinstall.
Any answers to this question? This is where we're stuck. The video was excellent the first install out of the box, however now we already have it 'put together' and just need to reinstall. Any advice on the spring mechanism?
The optional tie down straps where the only thing I didn’t figure out on my install a few months ago. Otherwise I knocked out the install using the super top ultra video. There has been a rattle I get from the rear passenger side when I hit speed bumps, but especially when I have the windows off in “bikini mode”. I painted my metal grills for the corners the body color of my Jeep(Mojito). I do have to make sure the sun rider is all the way forward by grabbing the grip in the front and pushing it slightly forward while slightly lifted. Had to do that more often right after the initial install but now I don’t have to really do it. The aluminum bolt/fastener that holds the wire in the rear I did have issues putting together initially. Don’t know why they just didn’t want to screw together. Did find it interesting that one of the side windows was pressed hard into the other leaving a intention/scratch to the window. Have been thinking about using the Bestop window cleaner to see if that’ll clear it up. The screws you have to take out in the front and Resecure afterwards I had the issue that one of them was off a size from the bit size. Bottom line been enjoying my Bestop Trektop Ultra and am glad I permanently switched to the trektop.
Sorry to hear about those issues, Jonathan! I would contact our CS to see if they have some advice on addressing them. Unfortunately, the window cleaner will not remove indentations. The best way to remove creases or indents is to lay the window out in the sun. It might not fix that indent you have, but worth a try.
Bestop living out in Hawaii I’d think just what I have been doing(leaving my Jeep in the sun at work and such since it doesn’t fit in the garage) would help. As I said though, I’ve really been enjoying the soft top regardless🤙🏼👍🏼
Curious - do Wrangler owners swap their hard top with this soft top in winter and switch back to soft-top in the summer. This looks like a long process of switching back and forth twice a year. Also, can the soft-top bracket handle the install - de-install process several times?
Yes! This is very common for Wrangler owners to do. It can be a bit of a pain but it allows this special vehicle to adapt to the season. It typically only takes about an hour or so once you have some experience with it. Yes, that bracket will last a long time despite that cycle of installation.
Got some questions. hi, I began to install my new Ultra JL top and when I went to lock the latches the driver side wasn't a problem but the passenger side one I couldn't even get too. I put everything into trying to get it to latch but it was soooooooo hard as if someone was holding one end of the rope on your right side and it wouldnt budge. When pushing the top back into the sun rider position. The left side is easy but the right side passenger doesn’t want to move and bows the attempt. Why is this happening? When top is fully to the spare tire should it be blocking my rear view mirror viewing? As mine does. How high is the top supposed to sit when in sun rider position from top of roll bars? Mine seems to sit high where I can’t get out of the garage
Hi Keith, I am going to recommend taking a few pictures of the issue and then calling our customer service at 800-845-3567 as they are best equipped to diagnose that for you.
This is a great video for a good top. It has the potential to be a great top if Bestop would just change how the plastic tab fits into the corner piece at the rear of the Jeep above the tail. Light. The tab only goes into the channel 1/4”, unlike ALL the rest of the channel where the plastic tab goes in 1”. Bestop refuses to admit this is a design flaw saying it needs to be warmer to stretch. While this MAY be true in some cases, here in Virginia Beach it is sunny and 83 degrees. They tried to be as helpful as could be on the phone but until this problem is fixed, they will be spending way too many hours with frustrated customers. This problem is definitely “a nickel holding up a dollar.

This project has made me extremely frustrated. At about 11:13 I can't get the screw to stay...it keeps popping out completely. I wish Bestop had installers in my area. Ughhhhh.......
I still have a good size gap above the front door surrounds after installing the weather strip . Is this normal? Doesn’t look like it from the outside but you can see light coming in from the interior.
@@BestopTeam I know this is an old video, but I have this same issue. Top has been on for about six months and you get a wind noise when driving. I contacted customer service and they keep referencing a z clip. I don’t recall anything about a z clip. I can probably fix it with some additional weather stripping but are there any adjustments to reduce this gap?
Bestop, you guys need to find a way to make the Trektop Ultra available for a 2 door JL. Something like what the Trektop Glide is for the JK. I have that top on my 2 door JK and I would buy a 2 door JL if only you had a full convertible soft top for it. I realize the challenges in making the top for the 2 door JL, but there must be a way...
