Loved the stew joke Profty! I've been watching your videos for years man and your enthusiasm is such a drive. It's definitely spikes my interest of the hunting world, especially on public land! I'm trying to break into deer hunting and have spent some time walking out bush over the past month observing and practicing your methods of following the contours and hoping over saddles to the next gully and the next. Just bought a new do-all rifle an can't wait to take it out. Keep it up brother!

I dont know if it was old age setting in but I shot my last deer with a rifle about 10 years ago because I got to a point sitting in the bush one morning in the rutt listening to the reds roaring and I thought to myself these deer deserve to be hunted in a way that is a lot farer than sitting back 2 -300 mtrs and dropping them with a rifle without giving them a fighting chance so I sold my cz270 and got back into bow hunting and now after a wrist injury I hunt with a crossbow and yes I've missed out on some nice heads that I would have 100% got using a rifle but I feel so much happier inside when I do get one it all makes up for the ones I missed out on I just wonder to myself how many other hunters out there in Australia that have had the same thoughts go through there heads , I love your channel and the way you respect the animals you hunt and put on the ground and nothing goes to waste and I feel your passion and excitement when you get one on the ground 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 stay safe and happy hunting 🇦🇺

Thanks for the content Profty. I have spent the last 3 years or so chasing deer with nothing to show for it in the freezer so far. Last trip out was a week in the high country about 6 months or so ago and still couldn't get it done. Came back feeling like id given it my all and feeling pretty deflated and discouraged, physical fitness and motivation has dropped off since. I needed a reminder to get back out there again to keep being persistent.

Very similar to my experience last week Profty - goats everywhere, but no deer sign, no roar. Didn't fire a shot, trying not to announce myself. 3 days all like that. Then out super early, a new area, new weather, started to see scrapes. But then became late morning, after 10, still nothing, so thought I was out of luck. Happened to be moving to a new location, stopped to check a creekline, but still carried the rifle. After a bit, some movement on the hill above me - 8-point fallow stag checking me out eye to eye. Kept calm, slowly moved earmuffs on and slide rifle into position, clicked safety off. Pow, direct in the chest and down cleanly. Patience was key, following good practice, not trying to force it.

Hey mate, I was told by another mate that you use an app called Avenza for your hunts. I am going to be going on a hunt soon and I am scared of getting lost, I am weighing up buying one of those garmins or using avenza, if you have used it, how has your experience been with going stalking with it? i.e. going off track. Thanks.
