14:03 you missed a beautiful mate with rook takes e1 I think, cause after queen takes e1 ther is queen h2 check and after king f1 queen takes g2 check king e2 there is bishop f3 and it's mate right?
2000 player here, not forced mate but you win back the queen and big material advantage, checkmate will soon follow, very nice spot! What rating do you have? That was a nice tactic :)
I’m 1700 in rapid anyway I noticed there is no force mate cause after king d2 the position is stuck and white I think can create quite a few conterplay cause black has back rank problems
Or begging for some Nimzo content since this one went to other (QID) direction... (I think the title is a bit misleading - it goes against the number one tip "Make sure your title matches your video content")
13:14 ( without seeing actual conclusion) would rook takes E1 with check followed by Queen H5 then Queen D5 followed by potential Queen G2 be a probable mate line?
Yes It is, you have a nice tactical eye! In this position, black has a forced mate in 2. After you play Rxe1 check, it doesn’t matter what your opponent covers with (Bf1 or Nf1) bc Qh2 is mate. Notice that if he covers with a knight (Nf1), he cannot recapture the queen bc of the pin. (NOTE: this is only assuming white doesn’t find the move Qd2)
28:52 the beginning of a great analysis with wonderful mating patterns. A very good illustration to the “the threat of a move is more damaging than the move itself“. I also couldn’t stay cool and just take the pawn (first on d4 or then on d3) with the queen. It never even occurred to me as an option while I was watching. Who cares about the measly pawn when all black pieces are involved. Amazing play.
This was great! I have been learning the Nimzo to get out of queens gambit positions but often I still end up with the queens gambit. Now I see that I need to look at the queens Indian!
I would hesitate to pick up the QID. The Alphazero vs Stockfish 8 match in 2018(?) showed a near refutation of the QID and nowadays pros don't play it at the top level anymore. This is not to say that the QID won't work at our level (Danya just showed it is!), but why sacrifice your own improvement by learning a slightly inferior opening, when you're already learning the best option?
@@michaelf8221 Bruh. The fact that openings are unsound at a top engine level doesn’t really mean anything- almost half of the masters I’ve played in tournaments play the QID
Loved the video. You've helped my game so much. I no longer blunder my queen by move 7, I'm up to move 12. Edit: That knight checkmate was dope. I really underestimate the knight and try and trade it for a bishop.
I would never go into a chess game and plan on trading knights - you need to read the position, and make trades specific go to the game you're playing. Takes some time to learn, but knights can be much much better than bishops sometimes
@@Shome2049 Nah, even 1400s can play an amazing game every once in a while. Although it's sadly very common these days, I don't think assuming that every good game played by a lower-rated player involves a cheater is a fair mindset.
@Lehmän Kulli69 his account was closed for cheating. Not all cheaters do it 100% of the game. Just when it's for enough ahead that they feel they can finish themselves. Then they get into such a mess they can't survive. Some people are really good at secretly cheating and it takes 100s of games for them to get caught.
14:16 you could have sacrificed your rook by taking on e1 because the knight was the lone defender of the g2 square and both your bishop and queen were looking at it (the queen would be after h2+) queen g2 would be mate after that
Black is winning after 1. … Rxe1 2. Qxe1 Qh2+ 3. Kf1 Qxg2+. But because of prosaic reasons, not because it’s mate. After 4. Ke2 Nde5, Black is seriously better since White will keep loosing material.
One thing that amazes me about high-level players, especially but not exclusively GMs, is not only the ability to calculate complex multiple lines several moves deep (impressive enough in itself), but the SPEED with which they can do so. I understand that comes from thousands of games, thousands of hours of analysis/study, pattern recognition, etc. But amazing nonetheless.
