      I saw them in Frankfurt and I was disappointed. The mix was off. Rich way too loud. The background singers barely audible. They were more or less stage furniture. Chris did not sing the melodies but shouted them in a rap style. I didn’t like it very much. I love their music, have all albums, but that was my last crowes show

      Adam MacDougall’s sudden departure from CRB earlier this year is making a lot more sense now! It’s been confirmed by the Crowes new management that the tour was agreed upon in April. Methinks Adam got wind of it and told Chris to jam it! Adam was Ed Harsch’s replacement in the Crowes, just in case you don’t know.

    I’m sorry, but the “hired guns” sounded great, and I was extremely skeptical. On top of that, Chris and Rich seemed to be genuinely enjoying being on stage together. To be fair, my favorite aspects of the band are Chris’ voice and Rich’s riffs so it makes sense why I could see past Steve Gorman’s absence. I thought it was an amazing show, I even bought a shirt.

    What absolutely amazing insight your Hindsight 2020 (tm) gives you. And even with such god like clarity you failed to mention that there was life after TBC for everyone involved. Since some of you are so worried about Steve Gorman it's funny that you'd not mention his top rated sports talk show; a gig he enjoys! So much so that he devoted not much time to his own band, Trigger Hippy. Who were and are a good band in their own right (haven't given the new iteration of this band enough listening time: Covid 19 hit just as they were launching.
    As for the Brothers, Rich joined with lead singer John Hogg, Marc Ford, Sven Pipien, Wierd Eddy Harsch (until his death. RIP) along with Joe Magistro to form The Magpie Salute after a brief but productive solo career. They were just hitting their stride with the release of their third album in the close of 2019; just before both Covid 19 and the Brothers reconnecting. The music is top notch and rates a listen from any enthusiast whose depth exceeds pop. Marc and Rich really refined their whole thing (Marc had always been more of a companion and bosom buddy to Chris; a friendship, many allege, that had it's genisis in a shared substance abuse issue). Surely you must have at least heard of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, a perrineal favorite on the festival scene. Chris abruptly cancelled the band's further turing schedule at the end of last summer; an event sadly followed shortly thereafter by the death of lead guitarist Neal Casal (Blackfoot, Ryan Adams & the Cardinals, Hard Working Americans, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, and side project Circles Around The Sun) (RIP Brother, we miss you). Neal was an exceptionally talented guitarist and his work here, along with Chris' vastly improved rythym playing and combined with Chris' exceptional writing and vocal abilities left us with a wealth of originals and covers that will remain in many discerning fan's playlists for years to come. Check out some of the music on any of the thirteen albums that are their legacy.
    Lastly, while Marc Ford is certainly a standout guitarist and the work he and Rich did with TMS was transcendent; blending, interweaving, and reaching a potential rivaling many of Rocks'
    legendary Guitar Duos, focusing on only him does such a disservice to the many other amazing talents that filled the spot through the years. From Audley Freed to Luther Dickinson through Jackie Green all added their own mojo and flavors to the Crowes already decadently rich stew. Artists are known to be temperamental. All of us can be flaming assholes at times. Why pile on to an attack of gossip, judgement and armchair quarterbacking? These musicians deserve better, at least the benefit of a doubt for situations we only have biased glimpses into? The band in all of it's configurations left us an abundant and diverse wealth of music and left for guitarists a profuse treasury of tunings and phrasing so intricate and sinuous that we, as well as future generations, will be mining for insperation and influence for untold years to come!
    Addendum: Not to mention that the Black Crowes, along with a few others such as Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule saved hard driving Rock 'n Roll from the overly sweet, saccharin and overproduced waste land of triviality pop rock was inflicting on the genre. They saved my sanity and provided much needed respite in both their studuo albums and live performances...

    • @RushTrader
      @RushTrader  4 года назад

      Thanks for taking the time to comment. Actually, my video was more or less centered around Gorman's book and not a comprehensive history of the band (especially for time purposes). However, Gorman kept his book focused on his time in the Black Crowes with little to nothing on his personal life and radio gig. With regards to any gossip, judgement and armchair quarterbacking... the results speak for themselves. It's well established that Chris has a history of being an obnoxious, selfish, money-hungry prick. The result? The brothers Robinson are the only ones left flying the Black Crowes flag and have to basically "start over" 25 years into their career with hired hands.

    At the Album Network Premier of Three Snakes in 1996, Chris said, "The Black Crowes are these people making this music." All talk... just talk. I guess he was referring to himself and Rich, not him, Rich, Eddie, Marc, Gorman, and Johnny too. As if MFF was inconsequential. And then keeping Marc's guitars for $50,000 after Marc quit in 2006. That was bullshit. And then Rich putting together Magpie, includes Marc, talks about how good it is to play with Marc again, it makes Marc happy, then Rich pulls the plug on Magpie and excludes MFF... It's like Rich just used Marc to get Chris back so they could have the Chris and Rich show. It's all so fucked up. We could go on and on about the fucked up shit Chris and Rich have done. All it does is take the luster off of the music itself. I'd rather bump some BC boots from 1995 than go see The Chris and Rich Reunion Tour. Off my soapbox. Peace.

      I thought Steve put it out there as plain as day: Rich is an overgrown child who lived in the shadow of his brother. He had the nerve to bite the hand that kept the Black Crowes relevant. (Sir Jimmy Page..lol)
      Also, speaking of Marc Ford; Rich just dropped him again, in favor of the latest money grab "reunion" tours.
      Steve stuck up for Ed, Johnny, Jimmy, the crew and management, and himself.
      He wasnt in the heroin camp of the band which had split into adverse factions, so he didnt step in when Marc pretty much fired himself due to drug induced degeneration

    By what you discribe of the original drummer's testimony in his memoir, I don't see it lasting for very long. I clearly believe this is all clearly for money, and the Robinson brothers seem maladaptive to me, thus the obvious sayings come to mind, "history repeating itself ", or "a leopard can never change its spots". One or both the brothers have massive egos or so it seems, and some form of drama is bound to erupt. Look back at what happened to Styx. Parallels.

    • @RushTrader
      @RushTrader  4 года назад +5

      @vtrifonoff Firstly, let's say Rich honestly didn't want to write a song with Page, certainly there could have been a more polite way to do it. Jimmy came away so insulted, he cancelled the the rest of the tour, 30+ dates because it wasn't worth his back pain.
      However, you also have to consider the time when all this was proposed. It was the late 90s when the Crowes had become unmarketable. There wasn't much interest from record labels, promoters or even fans. Those shows with Jimmy were electric and a collaboration could have worked to both their advantages. I mean, who turns down a chance to do anything with with former Zeppelin songwriter/guitarist Jimmy Page at a time like that? I'd say you'd have to be pretty delusional or full of yourself to not even indulge that offer, even in the smallest way. The Black Crowes still haven't made any splashes since that time and it's been 20 years. Although I don't remember Gorman speculating this in his book, I wonder if Rich was simply jealous of having someone better than him up on stage night after night and getting so much of the adoration.
      By the way, I appreciate your comment and under normal circumstances I can see your point... but considering the low point they were at and you have Jimmy Page offering to help, why turn down that golden opportunity?

I can't imagine ever turning away a guitar great like Mr Page, who's there to help and give solid advice. Jimmy Page had no ego and is world famous yet Richie Robinson thinks he's Elton John! Well, we know which band will always stand the test of time. I'm definitely going to look into getting this book. Great work as always Anthony!

      Thanks Jimmy! Yeah, there's much more to the whole Jimmy saga, what I included in the video was only scratching the surface. The book has so may great insights into the music business as well as the Crowes, definitely worth the read!

    Sounds like Abuse to me...some one should have intervened more. Do you all not realize this and that perhaps also Chris was and maybe still is a Narcissists' ////.which is a serious problem ''What if he had really hurt Rich or someone else....I plan to read this book....Furthermore RICH IS NOT SOCIALLY OCKWARD HE IS BRILLANT AND QUIET AND INTROSPECTIVE ..His coolness and a bit of a mystery... makes Rich even more hotter he is not all goofy and silly and loud ........ which are turnoffs ..... Rich is a guitar legend

    You have to have a pretty big ego as a guitar player to disrespect Jimmy Page.
    Fun fact.....most of Keith's big hits were fairly basic riffs played on a guitar with open G tuning.
    It was his secret weapon.
    Many of the Crowes hits are also played in open G tuning.
    Alls fair in Rock N Roll.

      Thanks for the comment! And you're right, how do you turn down Jimmy Page? Doesn't sound like he was asking for much and could have been killer. It might have led to him playing with them now or perhaps would have led to doing more solo stuff. As you can see, Page went kinda silent after this and hasn't done too much.
