The only Superman I actually like is the old Max Fleischer one from the '40s (mostly out of nostalgia, every other Superman I don't give two hoots about), so I'm always a sucker for when they give him the Fleischer logo & belt.
Just bought all these variants from Amazon Canada for just under $17 Can dollars. They all came in today. I know they are slightly different from the originals I had as a kid but I love the little changes. Still give me huge feelings of nostalgia.
There's a video on RUclips where the Mego guys talk some about these figures before they hit stores. Big Lots came to them wanting to carry the 50th figures but they wanted something different thus the variant costumes. Said that to get these to stores for the holidays there was no time to change the box art, the only difference between these boxes and the standard are the product numbers, assortment number and the barcodes under the Big Lots sticker. There was no time to come up with new patterns for the outfits and that's why Robin has the green hands with fabric cuffs, the outfit design is reuse from a previously released Neal Adams style Robin (fun fact, the head from that Robin is reused for the 50th Nightwing). While I have to admit that the Joker with the gloves looks really good for being such a slight change, I kind of wish they'd done another hero instead. Could've swapped Aquaman's oven mitts for yellow ones since he wore yellow gloves for the first 21 years he was published or they could've put black boots on him like 60s Filmation's animation. A Green Lantern variant could've used the same costume with their existing John Stewart head. Captain Marvel could've had a proper yellow-trimmed white cape and the cuffed boots. Green Arrow could've been done in his green and red golden age outfit. If they just had to do a villain, they had suit patterns and could've given Riddler the Frank Gorshin suit look.
These are all amazing variants but the standout for me has got to be the Fleischer Superman. It looks amazing. Keep the ☕ on & thanks for another great review at my favourite weekend hangout, the M.I.B. museum. Cheers. M.l.B.

Found all 4 in Northwest Indiana in the action figures section but hidden. I was just about to give up but noticed them as I was leaving the action figures section.
Found my set at Big Lots a couple days ago. They also let me have the display box. This Big Lots didn’t attach those security stickers on mine, thankfully!
@@m.i.bmastertoymuseum1979 I guess Big Lots has been tearing the header off. The employees at my store left it on. I’d love more of them to store more Mego!
M.I.B., what a great video! I love how you compare the original versions with the variants side-by-side. Great stuff as always. My favorite of these 4 is the Superman, even though I'm a bigger fan of Batman. I like the Batman 50th Anniversary figures, but I just really prefer the painted on cowl over the removable cowl. But again...fantastic work, M.I.B.!

Picked some up at big lots. I can confirm that they aren’t in the toy section. They were up front with the holiday gifts/decorations. I also grabbed the card board display box they came in as well.
Excellent comments and information my friend, now more collectors can use this valuable information to find these beautiful toy treasures !!!! It’s definitely going to save people time and money if they know exactly where to look, because if I knew this before I probably could have found them at the first Big Lots
Hi MIB. I have a bit of a problem. I just got the Mego Green Lantern from Amazon. I opened the box and tried to move the arms but they were stiff and wouldn't bend at the elbow. When I took off the costume I noticed there was a joint there so I believe it's supposed to bend. I checked The Flash and Superman I have and it's the same thing. Is this normal for these? Aren't the arms supposed to bend like the legs? Is there something that I can do to soften them up without breaking them? I'd like to order a bunch more but not if they're all like this. Have you encountered this?
Awesome question my friend !!! The new bandless bodies that Mego has produced are supposed to have more articulation and range of movement, but it seems that these bodies are a work in progress. The joints are very stiff. My suggestion for the very stiff joints, is basically what you did, move the arms and legs very slowly and gently, because I have heard if you handle these new bodies to roughly or quickly, the legs or arms will snap. This is unfortunately a common problem with these beautiful figures and a problem that I don’t see getting corrected any time soon. I hope that this information was helpful to you my friend.
Thanks MIB. It's disappointing for sure but at least I now know that it's a common problem. It's not like I'm going to play with them since they're mostly for show but it would be nice if they functioned the way they're supposed to. Still, I'll probably complete the collection with some more newer ones. And I still have to find that light blue cowled Batman! Thanks for the advice! @@m.i.bmastertoymuseum1979
@robsmoviecollection3715 You are absolutely welcome my friend !!! I definitely agree with you about these figures. I wish that they functioned the way they should !!! I give Mego credit for trying something new and innovative with the new bandless bodies, but I think that they should have stuck with the old Type 2 bodies
Hey MIB! I looked up some videos here on youtube and found a great one for loosening stuck joints in action figures: ruclips.net/video/wiDLMuFSIxo/видео.html He talks about using a hair drying to heat the joints or hot water. My new Mego Flash figure had stuck elbows and knees. The Flash couldn't even bend his legs to run, lol! But I took the costume off and applied a little heat and it worked! I was a bit worried since I was going to use my heat gun originally but a hair dryer is better because it's not enough heat to ruin the figure. Just enough to loosen the joints. Now I can order more figure to add to my collection! @@m.i.bmastertoymuseum1979

I have got to have these DC figures & Marcel the DC Justice league Batman Spider-Man SuperMan,Ironman captain america, Wonder woman Strom she hulk so fourth and so on.
Hi MIB , great video! I think numbers on the boxes indicate that these variants were created in order with the prior 50th anniversary Mego figures. If you look at the others you got months ago, they may have higher numbers. What I’m saying that these 4 were planned along the same time, but apparently retailer interest wasn’t there for them until big lots ordered them in the US and Walmart and Amazon in Canada. My set of big lots figures do not have the security stickers on them, perhaps the store you bought them from is having an extraordinary shoplifting problem. Stickers on collectibles is unfortunate. I really like these figures, I think they have a great alternative look to the retro figures, including the Joker with purple hands.
