  • I had the pleasure to fly both the Cessna 172 and the Piper warrior (PA-28), both are excellent aircrafts for pilot training. In this video I’ll compare both aircrafts, in its differences and similarities.

Great video. I trained and did all my hours on a 172 and never really liked it. I bought a 1973 warrior and absolutely love the plane and the way it flies. Both are great planes but in my opinion the warrior has everything I like. Looks, easy to fly, reasonable maintenance, most mechanics know or have worked on the plane with readily available parts, feels more stable in flight and seems better built. The single door is a drawback but for me not a big deal as I’m still very agile. I dream of flying my warrior everyday.

I did almost all of my PPL in a Warrior, and when I transitioned to a Skyhawk, I found it much easier to fly than the Warrior, especially when it came to landings. I think I must have an unpopular opinion because other people from my flight school have the exact opposite perspective on that. Maybe my memory of a Warrior is colored by the fact that when I first started flying one I didn’t know how to fly yet. Who knows. Now, as far as Pipers go, the Dakota flies really really nice and it can handle some wind. The Arrow, too, but I feel like the Dakota is even beefier and more stable in gusts and crosswinds.

yes, every pilot has a different opinion on that, I love flying the piper, if I can choose it I always pick our warrior.

The reason im watching this video is because… my 2 discovery flight where in each on the aircraft at the time i didnt know which on to use i had my first hours on the piper warrior after i had change CFI (glad I did) he told me what I preffered i could give an answer so he said lets try on the cessna one more time and the warrior youll choose since you are still fresh in flying. The difference that was the most remarkable for me is that flying a piper is more hands on than a cessna example putting the flaps on ans switching the gas tank and those little extra steps you need to be aware of is the reason I think i feel in love with the Piper. I think os fun to manually pull ans push the flaps while in the cessna is just an easy button. In addition cessna usually seem to be more up to date with technology and i will like to keep ip old school in my flight training. Im still new to flying but i wanted to share my preference. But if i could add a door to the piper I would 🤣

How far can you go with full fuel in any of these two aircrafts when you will stop and refuel when the fuel is about to finish? Can you go till the mountains above Vancouver?

I flew both airplanes but noticed i get dizzy in the cessna
(i even did puke-bag) but in the piper i felt perfectly fine! Do you might know what can cause this?
    Maybe with the wing configuration?

    • @FlyWithPedro
      @FlyWithPedro  Год назад +2

It could be that in the Cessna we swing "hanging" below the wings
it could also be related to your visual stimulation with the high wing, not sure
But if the piper makes you feel better, go for it haha

If you live in a hot climate the 172 is hands down better keeping you cool. That tiny window in the piper is a joke and you sweat your ass off taxiing unless you open the door.

    • @FlyWithPedro

In hot days even the Cessna needs the doors open haha
Good thing is that the Piper has air entrances for the people in the back also

In my flight training, I started in a Cessna 172, but then that airplane had a significant mechanical problem that forced me to transition to a Piper Cherokee. And for me it was very easy. I much preferred the Cherokee. I liked it so much, I ended up buying my own Piper Cherokee 140.
That's not to say that the Cessna is a bad airplane. I just prefer the Piper.

@@FlyWithPedro It looks similar to a warrior, but it has hershey bar wings, which perform quite a bit differently than the tapered wings on the later models.

I recently got my helicopter PPL and started working on the airplane add on. The high wing would be better for ground observation and they are evolved from bush planes. Or, they evolved from airplanes that had to be good with rough runways. The PA-28 is a little faster and I like how they fly more. The PA-28 has better visibility out and above than the high wing Cessna.

I am flying both. The Piper fly's better and is heavier however, the Cessna is much more comfortable and the high wing helps keep the sun and heat off of you. The Cessna is not as hot as the Piper and has two windows. Both airplanes has it's pro's and cons. In oven hot southern CA, Go with the Cessna. In cooler climates take the piper.

The piper turbo arrow is one of my favorite GA planes to fly on simulators, it's like the muscle car of GA aircraft lol

I enjoy both, piper gives more stability as it is a low wing aircraft, but got to say cannot glide as far, cessna glides further feels more lighter to operate on, and absolutely can see more than a piper. Started my training on piper then switched to cessna, love them both, one can hide from getting burnt from the sun 😜 just kidding.

Hello, thanks for the very informative video! I want to start my ppl this year and just saving some funds for it. Do you know how much is the insurance for a solo student (ppl, rpl)? I have my training cost all sorted out, i think :) i.e. ground school and pilot hours training...it's just the insurance thing. TIA. Subbed!

I flew more Cessnas than Pipers in my training, but heres my experience.
I really want to like the Piper Warrior/Archer, because it looks really good and is cheap to fly and maintain. But everytime I flew it, I just got annoyed by the door, the constant switching of fuel tanks, the limited outside view because of the low wing but no canopy design, and also the lack of a "big" window on the pilots side. I just feel more claustrophobic in a Piper and if something was to go wrong, you just have to hope your passenger doesn´t get knocked unconscious so he oder she doesn´t block the only escape route.
Cessnas also have their drawbacks, constant bending down because I am too tall, having to refuel with a ladder, more expensive, but all in all, I like flying Cessnas mainly because I can view the ground below me, which (to me) is the most beautiful aspect of flying.
But both aircraft are great and I don´t want to hate on anyone flying Piper, at the end of the day we´re all just having fun in the air with our own preferences!

Awesome feedback on the airplanes and your experience.
I do enjoy the low wing for air to air VIS, but I understand that the Cessnas have a better view while flying.
