Behind the wheel of a $3 million car

- The Hennessey Venom F5 is not just a sports car; its twin turbo V8 engine can muster more than 1,800 horsepower, almost twice that of a Formula 1 racing car. And yes, you can drive it on the street, for the cool price of $3 million. Correspondent Lee Cowan goes inside the design of a machine that shuns the mundane.

I just want a Corolla for 23.5k out the door. Is that asking for too much? 😂
Yes, it is? I cannot afford a car,, & neither can the Earth!
YOUR VERY WISE
You can and even cheaper all day long on the used market. Why do you need a brand new car?
@@seashackf1 I plan on having the car for the next 20 years, like my current Honda CRV, might as well get a new one.
@@bloatedsodium7301 if you’re going to have it for 20years then there’s no point to a new one. In the long run 2-3 years old will be nothing in 15 years. But you’ll literally save thousands buying a 2-3 year old car. 2 years and 20k miles is still essentially a new car. That’s the time frame they lose the most value. Let somebody else take that hit.
Umm, CBS. 160 mph on a regular highway, not a closed track? WTF were you thinking?
And and can see construction barrels on the road as well, so 150 on a open highway in a work zone.
"I'm being cautious" 🤣🤣🤣
Builder location is a former racetrack….. with a straight track and driving school….. bet they were on site there.
How do you know what they were driving on?
@@vickialmy5094you can see a pick up truck on the same road 2 lanes over, and a tractor trailer on the opposite lane

As soon as you park it, some clown will pull in next to you and put a ding in the side when they open their door...😁
... The reality is, there are very few, if any, roads that are both long enough, and smooth enough to safely reach that upper end speed ... Only closed race tracks have these ideal conditions ...
There’ve already been several cars that have broken 300 mph, including this one, though its record of 311 mph is unofficial.
So many negative comments, this is such a cool car and company that shows that average Joe can build a company to compete with the major car brands.
I wish people would just be happy with a good video and not make the comments about themselves.
It kind of feels CBS Sunday morning is becoming another showcase for salesmen
This is their annual "By Design" edition.
Too bad the owner of the company doesn’t come up with something a little more practical for everyone.
A Camaro would be perfect and give the rest of the 3 million to charity lol 😂
So they didn't cover it here,
but 60 car companies World wide,
come to Hennessey to find out what works,
at what speeds. Like this car started life as a C8 Corvette.
Who's newest tech, drizzles right down to the Chevy Cruse.

Just a garage and a vivid imagination...

I admire the innovative design of the F5 car. It seems like the design for an airplane.
Oh, I think dreams should be affordable!!! And achievable!!
These is for the person that has everything, and also to drive down to Starbucks and pay the high price for a cup of Java.
It's the track version of the Hennessey venom F5 out of Sealy Texas
Times are so tough how can anyone afford these
……the company sells dozens a year, most clients pay ALL CASH.

And where are regular ppl gonna drive a car so fast without endangering others??? It makes zero sense
There is a big, fast-growing high performance market in the US, both manufacturers and parts engineers, especially in CA and TX, that rivals Europe. I hope CBS Morning keeps at it like a series.
Me: Doing 160MPH on a public highway is reckless.
Lee Cowan: "...About an hour west of Houston."
Me: Oh. That makes sense now.
161mph on a busy highway and post it on national television? Could get interesting.
I love the sound of the engine deep down.
Looks like we've found the next Stockton Rush in this CEO doing 160mph on a public highway. And is everyone just going to NOT notice he's simply putting spoilers on McLaren's, slapping his name on them, and then tripling the price???
Nice try. @CBS WHY not mention Rimac Automobili. The fastest car in production
Because it's not.
It's not. The fastest production car is Koenigsegg Agera RS at 282 mph. Bugatti Chiron ran 300 mph, but the company modified the car to hit those speeds.
Oooooooooo that sound
WELL...Now no speed limit!
1:03 160mph on a public roadway? Really guys???
How many gallons does it get per mile?
This should be filed under “crap nobody needs”
That is pretty much the mayor of Sealy motor cars Steve Drake talks very good about him when he had to live with Steve, Drake and his wife and all their dogs and how Steve gave him one of the biggest presents that he could ever give him upgrading his truck it really surprised him,
An automobile is transportation. It should get you where you're going in comfort and safety. Anything more is self centered stupidity.
Not for all cases. As a fan of all modes of transportation, you should keep in mind that fast cars are a great way to see your relatives one last time shortly after you get a call about them being in critical condition. Check out Jeremy Clarkson's story about his dad. Of course this is all assuming you are close enough, driving too fast is very risky.
Speed Racer MACH 5 look not compatible with 3M pricetag, nor boy-racer look on owner's face when behind the wheel. Nothing personal, just my opinion, and constructive criticism
For the streets 😅... Try to pull one into your local gas station, see what happens. You'll crush the front clip. Sorta cool, not usable for most roads in America.
Carroll Shelby did it.
You can too
Be careful kids.
This puppy is fast
very bumpy ride. guess that's what you want for 3 mil
Ready for my test ride 😁
It’s like nobody bothers to google this guy’s history. All of the fraud he committed and customers he ripped off. He’s still blowing up people’s cars to this day. If you give that guy money, you deserve what you get.
Oh good. Another toy for the 1% crowd. 🙄
Bad to the Bone!
I think when mentioning the competition Bugatti should have been mentioned. They were the first to break the production car speed record.
They showed a Bugatti near the 3:35 mark, I thought.
@@bcreighton It was shown around there, yes.
How about Rimac Bugatti? Rimac is the fastest. Period
@@NenadBach The Rimac Nevera is awesome.
@@HTV-2_Hypersonic_Glide_VehicleThe Bugatti was modified though. The car that hit 300 mph was not the production model.
all these bitter comments from people with sad broke lives, pretty funny actually. shows the demographic of cbs perfectly
I never enjoy incomplete reporting... You failed to mention the history and myriad of legal issues, law suits and money lost by his customers surrounding his work over the decades. Hennessey's reputation among true enthusiasts is lacking, to say the least. Hennessy creates and markets cars on his site that are in many cases, yet to be offered to the market. He'll advertise he can modify the car to X amount of hp despite not having had one in his hands nor the car being for sale yet. More importantly he's blatantly overpriced comparative to other tuners in the segment for the same platform. His claimed HP numbers are always high and the cars performance never match the claimed numbers. He fashions himself as a modern day Carroll Shelby, he's no Shelby. It's great to have an American exotic car but he's not the best representation of it. SSC makes a great car, but has had some negative publicity as a result of a failed top speed attempt. But the product and reputation are stellar.
And all those "fancy" performance cars look the same...

For that money. It should float on water and fly to the moon. No one needs this car. If you have that much money to waste on this. Feed someone. Help someone or 30.

How is this 3 Million ?? Overpriced....
The best Ferrari are a fraction of this....
You can get a Bugatti for less than this....
Overpriced indeed.
Some Bugattis cost 5 million. The Ferrari Daytona SP3 is about 2.5 million, and the Laferrari now is going for like 5 or 6 million.
Not sure why this is news worthy? Some rich idiot spends an obscene amount of money to make a fast car for himself, and maybe his 1 percent friends. There's no point here. Nothing solved, no one saved, just more money and resources burned for one selfish individuals self-pleasure.
There's no feel-good, just showing off to the little people. Save this crap for Forbes or Top Gear. Show me something that actually matters.
It does matter. Michael Jordan bought a Venom F5.
