In Tip Toe, the tiles game, it is possible to tell which tiles are fake as they occasionally shake. However this happens rarely enough that it doesn't change the dominant strategy in the minigame. Imagine I'd said "it's too hard to tell" instead of "you can't tell"
I don’t think there is a way to make an online multiplier non arbitrary/ rng heavy. Many have tried but I agree with most of the video. edit: especially a “battle royale” if this is a battle to death or whatever
If the goal of the developers was to make a chaotic experience, then yes. Making a perfectly fair game would run counter to that goal, which would make it worse in that sense.
while I think it would be fine to fix these problems, I personally enjoy it more because of these flaws because it makes it so god damn frantic and chaotic.
Out of curiosity would you still recommend it? Like it's only 20$ and I'm thinking about purchasing it, but I'd just like to hear your direct opinion first
I understand what your saying and I kinda agree with you but I like the randomness of it if they made something like a competitive mode where there's no team games and the other stuff you put in the video so that if you want a game that's just your skill then you can but if you want to play a crazy wipe out meets mario party randomness go ahead
There's one other glaring flaw with Royal Fumble. If the player with the tail leaves mid match, the tail no longer exists and thus no one can actually do anything to win. Instead, the game literally just picks a winner at random after the game ends.
Is it really so hard to just program the tail to drop on if the player leaves?

they didnt know what the public at large would want. it's been out only a week, and millions of people have played it. they werent expecting for it to explode as it did and now, with such a large, vocal community, the developers are aware of where to move forward with the game and are working hard on it.

@@multi1446 I strongly disagree. In my opinion, season 2 was the worst. The theme was alright to me, but it was a big letdown with how little minigames were introduced at launch. big fans and the other race one were decent but they decided to make another egg minigame. hoopsie legends is okay too but it was just seriously underwhelming. However, the retro vibe of season 4 to me was perfect, with completely original minigames like the hoverboard one and hot shots. slimescraper was pretty cool too.

Fun Fact: Falling through the floor in Hex-A-Gone actually comes from a slip-up in the hitbox programming. It may appear as if the hexagons are right next to eachother, but in reality, there’s a tiny gap between each one. It’s similar to Geometry Dash in which you can skin the rims of most obstacles and still survive. Heck, some of the player-created levels get their difficulty from abusing the poor hitbox programming.

As someone else who likes Fall Guys... yeah, this is all completely fair criticism. It's a good game, but with more polish, it can be an amazing game.
The title screen does say "season 1"
Edit: I've also noticed now that is says "game ends in x days" on there, which apparently means the game ends on October 6th.
Now does this mean season 2 will also be launched on October 6th? If it doesn't mean that, then we will presumably have no Fall Guys to play at all after October 6th! But if it does mean that, then that could mean they've already finished season 2, which could mean it has the same lack of polish and flaws in game design that season 1 has. So either way the "game ends in x days" things has me worried, I'd prefer it to be the former BTW.

I hope the devs do actually listen to people’s criticisms because the game is very fun. I think with more ffa game modes they could make a playlist without team games which would be an amazing addition to the game

On the free for all tail tag, one time watching my friend play. We were laughing a questioning this guy who basically looked afk, and then in the last 15-20 seconds he started moving, took the tail and won. If all you need to do is hold the tail when the timer runs out is there really any point running around all that time beforehand.

I appreciate the deceptive longplay of making fun of Mauler for falling into a hole. I dunno, it really tickled my funnybone.
In regards to TipToe: I used to feel the same way. Then I noticed the fake tiles will shake after a few seconds. As long as you pay attention to that you can move forward a couple tiles every few seconds by process of elimination.
Went from one of my least favorites to one of my favorites.
Feels like my observation is rewarded, but you can still luck your way through which is great for a Party Game.

Yeah, with some observation and decisive action, I actually usually win this minigame. Like; The last three tiles are usually a straight line. Which means if you see shaking, you can actually eliminate a whole row.
It is not foolproof, and there is some luck involved. But imo, there is enough skill involved as well, so that it balances it out to a fine gamemode.
this would work except not every fake title wobbles so yes you can eliminate a couple of tiles in every row but it definitely isn't useful enough to make it skill based or fair.
It would be pretty interesting if instead of showing the true path like that other game he mentioned, every FAKE tile shakes simultaneously for a brief moment, not making the true path too clear but giving every player a partial view of the path depending on where they were looking
I’m from the future! Season 5 arrived, so here’s some of the flaws they fixed.
1. While the old team games still exist, they’ve made no new ones for season 5!
2. You’re now allowed to leave a game anytime!
3. Hackers have mostly gone down, but there is a report system now if you see one.
4. You don’t fall through hex a gone tiles anymore.
5. Some other bugs.

Also in season 3 they added pegwin pursuit which is the literal improvement to tail tag most people suggest and season 5 they added it again but solo
I'm from even the further further future and some of these bugs have been fixed with several new maps

Well if you work out a bit, do a bit of practice in whatever sport you happen to be playing and dont eat extremely shitty (not even good, just not shitty) then there is a good chance that you are in the better 50%. So yeah, getting in the athletic team out of two teams IS pretty simple since most people dont exercise at all.

What's even worse is when local internet funny man say one team is inherently inferior, and people on your own team throw because HAHA TOO BAD YELLOW
I really think that this game would benefit from what most other competitive sports do - instead of instant eliminations, use a points system where the people with the lowest points between rounds are eliminated. You might even have a certain number of points awarded depending on your win position. You could have a bad round or two and possibly still come out on top.
It would also make it nicer than 1 person out of 60 winning, and the rest getting nothing. You could have 1st, 2nd and 3rd too. And the "bad" maps wouldn't impact your overall experience so much since they wouldn't necessarily be an instant elimination.

I feel like tiptoe could be improved if instead of the fake tiles disappearing instantly, they would stay for a moment so that you can jump back to safety and test more tiles. It’s called titpie, after all - it makes sense to take it slow and steady.
Yeah, but it has to be timed to disappear pretty quickly to prevent people from pulling a Hex-a-gone and jumping to victory
Dr. G&W - I think making the tiles bigger would help. As it stands, as long as you’re able to jump back to the previous tile, you can also just jump to the next. By making the tiles bigger you can’t cross fast enough and have to go back the way you came.
Or adding a memory element to it so the tiles come back quickly or you just fall through without them disappearing in the first place, that way it's harder to just follow the path that's been laid out

Fall guys got killed so hard that this only got reccomended to me 11 months later
I just thought of a way to improve the "broken tiles" game (or however it's name is), IMO it should be a team based game. If you put three team in three different areas and make them find the path, not only will every player have an impact on the match but it'll make adventuring forward justified, if you have like three teams in three different areas and the first team to make on player pass wins it'll make the game interesting. I have other ideas for the other mini-games but for those I think I should play the game to give an actual thought on what makes them special.

team games are needed otherwise all the good players wouldnt have a challenge and blitz all the races and survival, team games give really goid players a challenge and are necessary

Slime Climb can feel like the most fun minigame with a lot of difficulty but is very rewarding. Or a slap in the face by being trampled on by 30 people

Slimb climb is the best game in fall guys rn. It's super easy but I still win it most of the time, and alot of the time slimb climb counts as 2 rounds this the game has to start the finals at round 4, since so many people die in it.
It’s not binary. You can avoid getting trampled by just chilling until the crowd thins out there’s generally enough buffer than you basically make the choice between hoping you don’t get crunched by the crowd flow OR waiting until the crowd thins but having less opportunity to fail.

I like the idea of Tail Tag being based on time spent with a tail, but I feel like a good compromise between the consistent reward of skillfully dodging and grabbing to keep a tail for as much time and possible, and the sudden dopamine rush of grabbing a tail at the last second, would be for anyone holding a tail at the end of the game to get a decent, but not necessarily "golden snitch" level of points if they have a tail at the end of the game. Makes it so that you can't just slack off as the time draws near because you're confident in your score, and gives some lucky people the chance to eke out a win they wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Hex-A-Gone isn't Spleef, it's TNT Run. In Spleef you break blocks manually whether it be by breaking them with a shovel or shooting at them with a snowball or another throwable item. In TNT Run however they break once you've stepped on them once and then walked off of them, which is the primary mechanic of TNT Run. The TNT ignites as you walk on it.

The Guardian except in Hex-A-Gone the bs strategy is to hop. In TNT run, you were actually favored for being on the upper floors the longest, but here you can hop to your heart’s content until you realize that the upper floors have less tiles and you’ll eventually run out more quickly than the person on the lower levels. It doesn’t penalize you for being stupid and thats why I hate Hex A Gone
but Jay, did you know? that if you put people in a Broken Mario Party, the people will take the shape of the Broken Mario Party?
As someone who likes Fall Guys a lot, thank you, and I basically agree with everything you've said.
One thing you missed though, is that in the hidden path game the fake tiles sometimes shake, which does sometimes let you make smart guesses and sometimes you can even be sure about where you'll be safe to go.
Also, I think final tail tag could be improved better than just getting points for how long you have the tail, because you don't want one player to have it for slightly more than the first half of the game, since after that no one else would be able to win. Every player should have a timer above their head that goes down when they have the tail, but doesn't go up again without it. The timer should probably be about 30 sec.
Also also, I don't like the seesaw level.
That reminds me of the Sunshine game in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. And yeah, I would like it to be fixed like that.

Royal Fumble, is now a game where you collect tails. Tail spawns roughly equidistant from all players(race to the arena?), and every player has a timer that ticks down when they have the tail. Once you hold the tail long enough, you get a point and the tail auto leaves you to prevent chains. First to 2 or 3 points wins. Now there’s the bonus depth of players possibly preferring to sabotage each other from getting the tail because they’re closer to winning than you and you won’t lose if the guy with the tail gets a point, Smash Bros, “HE HAS THE MOST STOCKS” style.
I just played the game again after a year because of the free to play update and... No, the game is just as bad if not worse now because the entire economy is busted. Crowns are now worthless and the new currency is pay by greed.
Your analytical pick apart of each minigame and exactly why the mechanics are fundamentally broken are so good I can't help but sub just out of respect.

Fall Guys is the weirdest thing for me. On one hand it's pretty fun, on the other hand, the game makes me loathe other people. I don't even get that annoyed when other people murder me regular battle royale games.
Probably because it's quite obvious that whoever you face will pan your face in in PUBG but in Fall Guys you'll be rekt because some rard bumped you and you fell off. In other words, you get outplayed in BRGs but arbitrarily get eliminated in Fall Guys.

One thing I hate is when other players decide to be trolls just cause they can and grab you, preventing you from moving on or winning. I have never won a single crown due to this factor

Ironically, the 3-way team games could be improved by removing BOTH lower scoring teams, making it "Take out the one that's ahead" rather than "Secure the not loss by picking on the loser."
They would just have to flip the frequency of the level to only appear when too many people have qualified, since it removes twice as many then.
Maybe it would help to not show the score during the team games, would be simple might slow down the ganging-up thing.

The nail in the coffin for me was the lack of care they had put in to make the game more suited to be played with friends. If one of your friends dies early and another friend is one of those speedrunning gods, its sucks either way to wait 20 minutes to play together. It always feels so bad to quit the game just to be able to play with your friend if one of you dies.
If the game had a separate design for when you played with friends, all of these bad level designs would almost be forgiven.
(EDIT: This made me play solo for 99% of my game time)

i cant remember if you mentioned this but for the finale tail game I believe the way to go with improving it is having the first person to reach 20 points wins. How do you win points? Every second you posses the tail you gain a point. This eliminates any final-grabbing-luck.

i can see where your coming from (i had the same concern) but it was so fun that i just keep coming back to the game, add friends into the mix as well and it’s honestly one of the best competitive multiplayer games i’ve played recently.
I like it still. Obviously this isn't a game meant to be played hours upon hours at a time, but since it'll get updated with new levels and cosmetics, I think I won't get bored of it too quickly at all.
I heard in the Son of a Glitch / Boundary Break episode that they have no server side validation: clients tell the server when they cross the line and the server just takes their word for it. Can't think of a worse way to handle it, no wonder it was ruined by cheating.

This actually highlights a problem I have with any three player versus game match, like in Arms or Smash Bros.
The match always boils down to either:
-One person gets ganged up on for no reason and then has to sit around and watch the other two people fight each other afterwards, or
-Two people begin fighting each other, usually the pressure of one person preventing the other from turning their attention to the third person who just sits around and waits until one of the remaining two dies and then picks off the low-health straggler.
AH yes team based modes in a game where you're supposed to be the last one standing

Had exactly the same issues. Each episode is a sandwich of fun levels at first, totally random team rounds in the middle, and the potential for a great, decent, or annoying final level. They also need to fix latency/input issues. Totally kills tail based rounds that are annoying enough as it is
I can't believe you didn't mention the grabbing mechanic, I tried the game once and the constant griefing with the grabbing made me snap my keyboard in half, rage quit, and uninstall.
i have a problem with the seesaw minigame on the first round. my main problem is that it can just slide you off of them if the seesaw is too far up, which can be really annoying. also, if the seesaw is too far down for you to get to the next one, then if you get there or not is entirely based on how many people are stuck with you.

2:30 wrong, 30 players can survive round *2* if they have this as the obstacle course. round 1 lets 40-45 survive usually. I didn't get the double soundtrack bug and there is actually a way to know if a tile is fake in tip toe, the fake ones shake a bit.

My response to this, as someone who's played only in the past month or two is: a lot of these issues have since been resolved. Luckily I think, I didn't start it when most of these were prevalent. I only started playing recently due to reconnecting with some old friends that don't live nearby, so this works out well enough (in addition to other party games we play together). I can't say I've seen a single hack, there isn't much lag, and team games are quite rare now
Here's a quick way to make the egg game, etc. work. Every time an egg is dropped in the basket, a point is scored, and the egg is removed. The game ends when all the eggs are collected.
In Canada it’s just called Wipeout and there were two hosts who played off of each other and it was wonderful

I want to be positive about the team games but man, Ive had some really sucky experiences. Teammates scoring into our goal repeatedly in the soccer one, teammates stealing tails from me on Team Tail Tag, teammates pushing against the ball in Rock N Roll. I just hate people...

For Fall Mountain (aka obstacle course for the final) I'd love to see more obstacles that are risk/reward to give you an advantage, like using the hammers to fling yourself into the lead, give you a chance to catch up even if you get run over by a ball etc

it's nice that a lot of this video doesn't apply as much anymore due to a dev team that seems to actually listen, team games are barely even in rotation anymore (which is a bit annoying only as there are challenges only completable in that gamemode) and a lot of the frustrating matchmaking, and pause inconsistency are almost completely fixed.
TL;DR: team games can be good if it’s made that the whole team doesn’t lose :)
I mean, you can make the team games better by making it so that if your team loses, the top whatever amount of players on the losing teams get to go on. Say you have three teams of 15 each, the 3rd place team would have 10 eliminated, second would have 5, and first would have 0. The same amount of people get eliminated, but it’s only the worst performing of the worst teams. Since 1st place won, they had the best teamwork. Since 3rd did the worst, they had the worst teamwork, and a majority of them get cut off. But the best of them get to go on to the next round. And the same goes for 2nd place. They had good teamwork, but not the best, so not all of them get to go to the next round, but most of them do. This would fix several issues, such as the gaining up on the losing team. If the bottom five of the 2nd place team don’t do anything to take down the 1st place team, they’d be eliminated, and the last 10 people in the 3rd place team would see that they have to get to at least second place so the middle five can make it. This gives the game layers that increase the depth of the gameplay and make it so that the best strategy changes from “pick on losers” to “ I gotta be in the top 5/10” which overall helps the teams score. So the focus is to help yourself and the team at the same time. If you do the best you can, you will win. If you help get to first place, you will win. If you don’t, you might lose, but it will mostly punish you, not the whole team.
That's a great idea, only problem is, how would you measure how well individuals are doing in say, the eggs or big balls gamemodes?

Milsta f m That’s the best thing I could come up with too, but is has a couple problems. Simply how many eggs you dropped off in the nest does not describe how much you helped your team overall.
For example someone could’ve brought the egg close to the nest were you are standing and they lose it somehow so you just pick it up and throw it in effortlessly.
A player can also help their team in a lot of ways that is not directly throwing the eggs in the nest for example sabotaging another team(grabbing them, grabbing eggs before them or directly stealing eggs from them) or simply getting eggs closer to the nest without being the one to drop them in.
It could also encourage people to steal eggs from their own team members because as long as an individual throws a lot of eggs in the nest they wouldn’t even have to be in the winning team to qualify.
Also, you would have to do something about people just taking an egg and just taking it back and forth in and out of the nest. The most obvious responses to that is that the egg has to reach another third of the map or maybe even another nest before you can take it back to your “home nest” and count it as another point, but this could probably be exploited anyways and is in my opinion a bit too complicated rule for this game. How would you know if your egg can actually score you your individual point or not?? And even if we got some kind of indicator that would just bring another layer of complexity and would ruin the game because eggs have different properties.
The best way to tackle this issue is probably to revamp some of the teamgames but I’m not sure how

@@milster08 That wouldn't work, I won a game just by defending my egg nest and stopping other players from getting out with the eggs. If I were in second place, I would've been eliminated.
You'd think a game that is fun focused and luck based would be immune to toxicity but people push, hack and troll because they need to validate themselves.
I just wonder how sad those people must be in real life. I have my own issues I guess, but they must be doing much much worse than me.

Actually in Tip Toe the tiles that shake are fake tiles, that's the best tip I can give you for winning more on that game mode, also the last two tiles at the finish line are in a straight line so if you find the tile just before the finish line just keep going forward

How about some simple fixes?
1. Make that all team games have a different W/L system. The team that win will be completely safe and that other teams will have a split random chance of being eliminated. Like for 3 teams, the 2 losing ones can be eliminated by coin toss, or a 33,3% change with 4 teams. More incentive to make your team the winner, and the other two can be saved or lose by fair chance.
2. Perhaps the game can let you choose between only FFA or team games or mixed, for those who would not like to play those.
3. In the memory game. Just make all player invisible on the time that it needs to choose the correct fruit, that way you cannot go to a commom place. And it doesn't need to be a individual experience because all the cluster of players make the game more interesting.
4. The tail one, sure.

There should only ever be two teams. If they did that, all the team based game modes would be fair. The game modes just aren't complicated enough for there to be more than two teams.
I wonder if three team games would work better if both of the worst teams get eliminated. It would give a reason for the two better teams to compete with each other, and give the worst team a chance to be an underdog.
I like how a majority of fall guys minigames are just minecraft minigames.

Another thing I really wished you'd talked about is the uneven team sizes. I've been in the football minigame (the 2 team one not the 3 team one) with 5 people on my team and 4 on the other. We thrashed them 12 to 2 and it was completely unfair. We could have someone in goal the whole game and still have the same amount of people chasing the balls as they did with no goalie.
The fact that after almost a year, none of these issues have been fixed is kind of sad

Could fix everything but the core gameplay is what sucks. Small mistake = game over, in a game where the objectives are so one dimensional. This is a game which is deliberately slow, clumsy and basic
For me I don’t take the game seriously I just hop on mess around with friends and have a blast. Definitely agree the game has flaws but I just simply don’t take it serious enough to affect me
I don't think a lot of people take the game seriously. It just isn't fun to get kicked out be forces outside your control. Be it casual or competitive.
I guess a lot of the criticism would disappear if the game was Free 2 Play. Even more people would just goof around and not trying to get their money's worth
I dunno that some games being luck-based is necessarily a bad thing. Plenty of party games thrive on the chaos that luck-based elements add in. I mean, look at Mario Party. People keep playing that game to death despite the fact that 3 times out of 4 you will get screwed out of victory by random happenstance, because getting screwed by random happenstance is just part of the fun.

i think that's actually the biggest flaw. it's taken a format meant for close friends physically playing together, gives it higher stakes and made it an online multiplayer.
luck based can be fun, but it can feel cheap if there are any actual rewards at stake, because then you just get angry at the game because you got cheated out of a win.
those games like mario party are fun because the rewards are essentially just bragging rights and the fun is derived from playing with friends.
at least that's my opinion, i haven't watched the video yet.

I don't get the choice to make it elimination. That just makes it so some ppl queue up, only to lose 1 round in and be forced to try again. I would've preferred if when a match was made, all players would play all the rounds, get points based on their performance every round, then the top scorers would be rewarded at the end.
50% Chaos, 50% Skill. That's what the Dev's said they had in mind when making the modes.
And all team games in any online game with randoms suck. Inherently it'll be unfair.
You say this like skill and chaos can't co-exist. 60 people running a course where collisions can slow people down is chaotic but also requires having more skill than x% of the other players. For me, a mix of both is the best. A gamemode being solely chaos in a game where losing the minigame ends your run in the game is poor design in my opinion. In games like Mario Party, these games exist too but they work better because you don't just instantly lose from that one minigame.
Chaos is cool, like in the obstacle courses with spinning beams and doors for example. Guys flopping around that you have to dodge. It's not really fair, but if you're good you can get through very very often.
Getting teamed up with shitty teammates and getting ganged up on and then not being able to make any tangible differences is a bit less fun though.

You forgot the see saw one. This also needs changing. I've had my spawns randomly switched, and that forces RNG into it. It also has the same problem a team game has, except you can get it at round one and two.
The team games suck that you can lose for having a bad team, but I think they’re designed around the fact, most play with friends so want to have a few games where they are playing together.
