What may be most remarkable about this group is, well into their second decade, they are still improving, still working hard to get better. Being as how they are already the best live performing band I've ever seen, that's saying something. It's been slightly more than a year since I serendipitously discovered DakhaBrakha (from previous KEXP performances). I still can hardly listen to anyone else, they are simply the most amazing musical performers I've ever heard. Their songs are complex, yet accessible. Their instrumental work, though they claim it's not really virtuosic, is rock solid. They always seem to play the right note at the right time, work together as a single unit made up of four individuals. And the singing is ethereal, wild, transcendental, beautiful, sublime, breathtaking, etc, etc. DAKHABRAKHA!
Remember all the concerts you were at? Badly rarely performers could sing live as much as on an album. This band can! Can imitate musical instruments, sounds of nature, animals... Can be in different genres and even read rap. The music is so strong. Even without knowing the words you will get the max ears pleasure! It's worth listening and sharing! Many thanks to the performers! Dackabrakha the best!☄
I saw them at Bonnaroo a while back without ever having heard of them before and was completely blown away. I come back to them time and time again on the internet.
Seen them live 3 times and every single concert was a blast! Especially when they played background music for a Theatre Dakh play in Kyiv. Out 9f this world
Just happened to find this on the TV. I don't even speak or understand that language. But it caught my interest and I love it. Thanks for sharing that with us
Jim Carroll of the Irish Times wrote this of their performance at WOMAD 2014. "Then came the most compelling hour of the whole festival. Three women in white dresses and tall furry stovepipe hats sitting in a row, one playing cello and other two on percussion. To their right, a balding nondescript man in an embroidered jacket with a concertina and hand-drum. This was DakhaBrakha from the Ukraine, a one-time visitor to our own, late, lamented Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures. The women sing, their voices wild, free and magnificent; the cello sets up a riff like heavy metal, and the percussion marches like a shamanic army. The big crowd in the tent is utterly bewitched. Suddenly, the percussion stops and the male figure plays a gentle tune on the melodeon and then accompanies it with the sweetest falsetto voice. This beautiful piece continues until the percussion and cello crash back in and he roars and growls like a demented being over the top of it until it all quietens again and he is back to a sweet falsetto. Extraordinary, surprising and inspired. The show ends with a huge roar of approval and a mass waving of Ukrainian flags." It was one of the most wonderful music experiences of my life (and of the friends I urged to come as I listened to them warm up) 🎶

2014 also I think. That first time seeing/hearing them...yeh...it's certainly one of best musical experiences of life. When DakhaBrakha go to WOMAD, I go to WOMAD 🎶 Oh...and Marko's Borscht is delicious 😋
It’s really lovely hearing Olena having such a lead on vocals in this performance. This is another stunning set. I do hope that the band play the UK soon. Actually, the more I have watched this video, the more I am moved by Olena’s performance; real Mary Poppins... practically perfect in every way!👏👏👏

@@jacoblalonde8978 Their new album 'Alambari' is out now! 'Plyve choven' was released as a single last year (search for 'Пливе Човен' on Spotify). 'I've Boarded The Wrong Plane' was not recorded yet (to my knowledge).
Outstanding, it's a mix of jazz, Ukraine folk, blues, rock - exactly what I were searching for. Planning to visit your live performance in Kyiv. Дякую!
Did you hold on to this? Their previous two KEXP appearances are excellent. They had a live feeling but studio sound. This did not disappoint. while not in studio the sound was still awonderful mix. DakhaBraka has become my daily uplift for the last year, yes I'm way behind but they're a positive force playing their world ethno variety of music that goes beyond language, or genera. It's constantly evolving avoiding becoming caricatures of themselves, pigeon holed into playing that one sing along song for the crowd . I would love to see a tour with them and with Nina's other band Dakh Daughters who also had great sessions at KEXP. A Dakh festival tour throughout the states.

I SO agree... One ends, I'm sad, the next begins and I'm again instantly blown away by another great performance and amazed how KEXP keeps them coming one after another.

I'm a simple man. I see a new DakhaBrakha live performance and i have to give it a thumbs up after the first intro. They just never disappoint.
I haven't even watched it yet, but I know I'll like it.
Je ne parle pas d'autres langues que le français. Mais tout ce que vous dire c'est que je prends mon pied.
Essayer aussi Beirut ou anjalaya.
When I hear their music I always think that I would love to watch them during their creative process. Their music is so special!
I'll bet their rehearsals are a blast.
I love the personality of all four. They are so desirable in their own way.
