Idk Wes. Love the project! However, you may want to nail one of those spacer boards to the bottom. I say that because as the heat of the day and sun goes, it will make those cheap little plastic nursery pots very soft and pliable. The plastic kinda meltd and it'll end up falling through and damaging your plant. I've even had very very heavy duty plastic planter give and collapse through the heat of the summer. The resin type pedestal planters just collapse and melt over. Ruining the planters and setting my plants back.

Nice idea and result. I have an idea that might simplify it. Cut a 45° bevel on top of the slats and use french cleats to attach the boxes.
