I noticed an uptick in sales, so I came to RUclips to investigate, haha. Thank you so much for trying the sketchbook and sharing with others! Your spread looks so fun and whimsical. Such fun shapes, as always! ^_^
I think the reason your liners are smudging is because you use your markers like watercolor. Usually smudge resistant liners are not smudge resistant in the same way you think of with watercolor, where you can rub and layer and pool ink as much as you want without it lifting. You’re technically supposed to move in quick, almost stripes of motions rather than small circles where you wait for the ink to gather like you would with watercolor. With copic, you actually want as little ink on the page as you can, you just want to be sure that each stroke touches the last so that it doesn’t come out streaky. Each layer should be as thin as possible, and you build color by layering rather than by adding more ink to your initial layer or going over your strokes again before it dries.
The sketchbooks are so cute, especially the little mushroom patterns on the first pages (these literally make me so happyyy), and I think your spread is pretty cool as well. I honestly don't really use alcohol markers myself, though I'd say you did well :) Also, sort of unrelated to this video, though I want to thank you for not only getting me into watercolor, but more serious (?) art as a whole. I think I started watching your videos three, maybe four years ago, and yeah. Like, I seriously don't know where I'd be now if I hadn't gotten into these things, so again, thank you
The copic liners always smudge for me, but the sakura pigma liners don't, especially the Brown ones because they don't muddy up the colour if they do smudge. Also I found liners need at least an hour, preferably 12 hours to dry... ALSO i NEED this sketchbook but the cream is sold out and shipping is outrageous
Yeah the shipping was a little off putting but I’m sure there is a good reason like the speed is probably fast. It’s just I don’t want to pay for half the cost of the product on shipping..
@@blackdemonheart9696 it said 75 days for me. But I can't really blame the seller; overseas shipping from America is always expensive. If anything 17 dollars is cheap, since illo's cheapest option is 55 dollars for example.
The point of Copics is that they blend, so the fine liners would smear. Use the liners last would be all I can say. Still bleeds through the paper here so I'd avoid them unless you only want to use every other spread. I suppose you could use collage or gouache on the backside
@@recoveringsoul755 I've honestly never had issues with copics smudging my microns once they had properly dried. The bleeding through the paper will happen in almost all sketchbooks though. The best solution is keeping a piece of parchment or plastic between the pages so you only waste one page.
With copic fine liners, you need to wait at least like an hour. Sometimes a half hour will do, but for the best results I don’t even erase the pencil lines until at least an hour after lining. Then they don’t smudge at all :)
I made a video on Baylee s sketchbooks too! And they’re absolutely amazing! 😄 they take all mediums really well so if anyone is looking for a mixed media sketchbook Baylee s are the way to go. Also the square format is perfect and just like illo sketchbooks 💕
I used to be such a huge fan of her!! I still love her but dont watch her content much anymore. I still adore her book though!! I got in on preorder when it first came out :)
I love mushrooms, I love weird creatures, I love Kasey's style, and I love Kasey. So this is the perfect video for me. I adore that spread, Kasey! Perfect inspiration for my own drawing sessions. Also, I love that sketchbook! It's so cute and gorgeous. And all the other stuff too, just wow. Well done, Baylee Jae! I'm reading in the comments that everything is selling like hotcakes, so I'm very happy for your deserved succes.
@@tedra3493 on the website it says the interior pages (my guess the meat of the sketchbook {:"#]) is 7.5 x 7.5 inches (or 19 x 19 cm)!! hope that helps :#)!
Hullo Kasey, I enjoyed watching you work on Baylee’s new sketchbooks! I am surprised at the level of anxiety that you are showing! I guess that if we want one we better get over there and buy one, if there is any left! She often sells out! Sweet mushroom doodles, be well and please say hi to Dave!
7:31 best way I keep from smudging is waiting a while for the lineart to fully dry. sometimes a few hours. but then again that might just be my excuse for getting distracted by things xD
Love that Baylor Jae sent you her goodies! I have bought several of her items including the sketchbooks! I'm almost scared to use them cause I love them so much! I also really enjoyed your "mushroom" spread! Much Love from TN!! 🍄😁
I love your art style and the way u drew the mushroom girl. with the shadows and stuff it really reminds me of a beautiful scene I've saw a while back. the shadowing also reminds me of a show called Hilda. again I really love this style
When you use copics I usually like to color first and then do lineart, it doesn’t smudge and you can get better blending in when you don’t have to tip toe around the black ink.
Loving this cross over! Artuber's supporting artubers!💪💖 I have the exact same Copic set from like 6 years ago haha. Your spread looks so nice!! Love how you made it fit the mushroom theme. And Baylee's sketchbooks look phenomenal, she put so much work into making it cute and hitting all the marks artists look for (lay flat, nice size, takes erasing well etc.)
I’m one and a half minutes in and HOLY CRAP I can feel the love punching me in the face with all the swag and goodies and beautiful packaging in that box. Holy. Now excuse me while I finish watching this video and likely go and buy some sketch books.
Such an awesome video as always!! I just realized you dont have the 'At least you Tried' print anymore, will you be restocking them!? If not i understand
@@sx_tp I get that but I liked having the vlog channel be a separate entity. I’m not exactly intrigued by her content anymore, which I believe has happened for a lot of people.
I have the Daisy white sketchbook and I love it 😊. I used watercolor, colored pencils, and gouache on the same piece already. And of course Copic markers too. I think the key to not smudging fineliners is to either not color over the lines and just go around the lines, or if you do go over the line, hold the marker very lightly and don't press hard. Also kinda obvious but light colored markers make the smudging more apparent, so when I use light color markers I try to go around the lines more. Darker colors are more forgiving. Hope this helps! I love using alcohol markers.
Oh the mushoom theme is so cute. Sadly i cant buy these bc of the shipping costs and tax to my country being very high. It looks really unique with the embroidered cover!
I kinda love the ghosted images on the back of alcohol marker art pieces. Like I like how the image is a bit distorted and the edges get fuzzy. It amuses me, what can I say.
I don't get along well with the Copic liners either, as long as you're using just alcohol markers and not doing mixed media I suggest a water-based liner instead. Papermate Flair works great, or there's usually some cheap felt-tip options available at the dollar store. I mostly use a Pilot Precise retractable pen. Works way better and so much cheaper!
Typically I use Pigma Micron liners for alcohol based markers. They don't smudge (as long as you let them dry), and you can find them in different colors. The liners that come with certain alcohol based markers don't really do them justice.
I used to watch baylee jae in like junior high; like 6 years ago! @@probably_ineffable Hello in her video she said that she’s gonna restock the sketchbooks and she is going to create new designs for new sketchbooks

When you use copics I usually like to color first and then do lineart, it doesn’t smudge and you can get better blending in when you don’t have to tip toe around the black ink.
Also using a colorless blender and kind of like dotting the lineart and letting it dry locks in the liner so you smudge way less
