When licht killed Julius that was the catalyst for Lucius taking back control since he Julius was weakened too much. I’m assuming but from reading everything up to now for the past years that’s my conclusion. For Lucius to die I think Julius knows how and what asta needs to do with his anti magic. Maybe for a instant Julius will show up in the final moments of the battle and let asta know he has to either kill the soul of Lucius or both of them has to die for them to be completely gone since they have soul magic.

Here's my theory so lucius zogratis has soul magic and when asta started training in the time skip lucius used soul magic to control him whenever he wants and when julius saw the zogratis siblings attacking clover Lucius's patience almost ran out but he didn't take control and then when damnatio said to julius and said the stuff his patients ran out that's my theory
