- After a period of uncontrolled borrowing and the unveiling of several mega infrastructure projects, Kenya's government is increasingly finding itself in a tight corner as it has to balance the revenues collected by the Kenya Revenue Authority, which has continuously missed its collection targets, servicing of local and external debts which are falling due and public spending. For the latter, the challenges have resulted in a vicious war with county governments whose disbursements have often delayed, and spilt over to other arms of government, as recently exhibited by happenings in the country's judiciary.
In the midst of all this, one is left wondering, where did the money in East Africa's largest economy go?
In August, Africa Uncensored's John-Allan Namu hosted a panel of thought leaders on the matter at hand as well as tie-ins that include devolution and the full implementation of the constitution that the country promulgated in 2010.

John Allan Namu is the gold standard of African journalism. Each one of these brilliant minds require a minimum 1 hour, just to lay down the basics. Where is part 2, 3 & 4?
All this conversation was debated before and during the 2017 election campaign. We asked where the approximately 6Trillion shillings borrowed by Jubilee had disappeared to. We then, correctly concluded that this money's, which the IMF and the World Banks had warned Kenya not to borrow the cheap Chinese Central Bank loans, which was careless and had high interest rates attached to them, and which Uhuru and his Government ignored and went ahead to borrow.
The Big Question still remains, where did all that money go? Did we waste all that money on the SGR? What about the promised roads and projects.
The answer still remains the same todate, in Uhuru Kenyatta's pockets and his ill run, greedy Government.
We said then and our views are unchanged to-date that Uhuru and his Jubilee Government are the most corrupt government in Kenya's History.
Let us not pretend we did not know all this hard facts.
David Ndii has been openly saying this before and during the 2017 election campaigns. But we never listen, we appointed a thief to watch over our interests, let us not be puzzled as to why we are in this impoverished sorry state.
It is our arrogance that sees our nation, you and I suffering the consequences of our bad choice. The bad choice we are all a contributing factor to, and are ripping her benefits while the benefactors are our corrupt rulling elite.
Being a Christian Nation, it may be easier to say, every man shall rip what he sow. Make no mistakes about it.
So who do we blame for our stupidity, God???????

John Allan Namu, great job. I like that you were asking for example to clarify what the panelists were saying. For example, when you asked Waiganjo to provide an example that supported the fact that some of the aspects of the devolved government design were violating the principles of the constitution. I would love to see more of these kind of interviews; they help us know where to begin to understand our woes as Kenyans.

If I was to choose a President for Kenya, David Ndii will be my choice. A man value Kenya and the people and not money. Mr Ndii is a man can change Kenya. He is the man can deal with corruption because he is clean and no one can point a finger at him na wewe umenyakuwa. Mr Ndii will make sure the corrupt go to jail. In Kenya people like David Ndii are called fools because they are not thieves. People like David cannot be leaders because they lacks qualifications of being a thieve to be President, which is very sad.
Society is upside down in most westernized/europeanized countries in Africa

A very enlightening conversation on how we got here, the dilution of the constitution as Mr. Kamotho puts it can described as what they call in SA state capture. The economy of the whole country/47M is made to serve the interest of the few elite. If this is not a form of colonization, then what is it?!

Amazing the numbers are fascinating this government has failed in many aspects. Also i tend to disagree with the notion that the counties need a county institution to check the management of funds. These institutions will be appointed by governors who intend to waste the funds.

Very informative but its very unfortunate that we still have people who'll vote for the DP. We need mental freedom n serious social education on how our choice on the ballot affects each one of us and the country at large. There is no difference between the president and his deputy, its a dual that has messed the country so much so that the effect will be felt 15 years later.

You knew that as an economic analyst David Ndii. Better Dr Man'geli who died sticking to his guns challenging the status quo and history has vindicated him albeit sad.
The problem we have in Africa is Mental Colonisation, it does not matter how many institutions are formed, if we do not decolonise our minds we will always sabotage any progress. We think like our colonisers and not like Africans before they came.

1. Rebasing of GDP in 2014
2. Rate capping in 2016

If the interviewer can't build on top of what the interviewees are saying he won't get into complexities of the matter. Even more so if it's a panel you should have a panel of your peers. I'm afraid you sir are also out of your depth.

Yes, they do. The collect fines, fees for various licences, parking, market fees, cess, charges when people seek their services, land rates, grants from the national govt and other financial institutions, loans etc

It’s pretty simple you increased duty to a level where Kenyan products are now not affordable regionally. Business have come to a halt. We used to have merchants coming all the way from east and central Africa. With regional trade money came in and flow of money was in plenty. Now our neighbours prefer to buy goods from Uganda including us Kenyans bearing in mind UG is land locked depends on our waters and more neighbours preferring to do business withTanzania why? Their products are more cheaper surpassing Kenya. So no more money is coming in Kenya until we revise our rates. The little we have left is being sent to China and other creditors outside to pay debts. So basically we are being left with nothing.
Mr President take advantage of the port reduce or make it free to import goods especially for goods that are not locally produced or available. Wait and see traders coming all the way from Cameroon to buy in Kenya than taking a flight to China, this will increase revenue in the country. If it is taxes you want to collet so bad make it minimum through VAT from traders. Haba na haba hujaza kibaba. Kenyan goverment is stupid to think that heavy taxation is success no you actually destroying our economy.

The only thing heavy taxation aids is increased belt-tightening by individuals and private businesses. High costs of operation mean more layoffs, less people even capable of spending money, lower PAYE earnings to government...the list is endless.
