The album this came from was a concept album.. In all of my life there has never been someone more focused on his own brand of perfection than Zappa. Like him or not he was a master at what he did. So many genres of music. Offbeat & a definite acquired taste. Thanks for posting Brad. He deserves more listens..
I love Frank but I think his extended format storytelling (e.g. "Billy the Mountain", "Joe's Garage", "Greggery Peccary", "Beepies n' Beer") has a tendency to go off the rails into the absurd and doesn't IMO generally wrap up satisfyingly.
FZ loves to start songs out with a few "layers" and slowly add more and more as the song progresses. Always done tastefully. Watermelon in Easter Hay is another example, or Flakes. Good patient reaction to the master himself.
If you ever decide to do album reactions, this is where I recommend you start. This is an epic rock opera and features music and sounds that even now, forty some years later, will have you scratching your head and wondering; "How the F did they do that?" It will keep you laughing, too, and includes one of the era's most beautiful songs, the penultimate "Watermelon In Easter Hay."
Thanks for all your reaction videos great stuff With this album you cant stop with just the intro to this brilliant concept album. I have been a huge fan of Zappas music for over 40 years, The man is a musical genius, Please keep listening to the album, i did like your reaction too, just hang on you are in for the musical ride of your life,
There's two ways you can go with this, you can step aside right now and pretend you didn't hear this. Or you can continue onward with Frank and you will never be the same person again... I'm not saying everything he ever did was perfect far from it, or that everything he ever did was this interesting but he may have the most loyal, dedicated, and musically sophisticated fan base of any 20th century artist. "You'll love it, it's a way of life" The Central Scrutinizer (& Mary, & Sy Borg)
The album is about a society where music is illegal. This is track one, how Joe got into music. But he soon comes to the attention of The Central Scrutinizer.
I first heard of The Taliban from the liner notes of Joe's Garage. The outlawing of music in Afghanistan and the correlation of The Evangelicals censorship of music in The U.S.!
Thumbs up for the Bjork t-shirt alone. I don't know if you're planning on running through the whole Joe's... concept album. But if not, here's a random Zappa suggestion - this specific version of Inca Roads, because it shows how far out he could get when Vinnie was in the band: ruclips.net/video/3bZ6aT-OHdU/видео.html (starts at 1 h 13 m 50 s)
On 4. December 1993 Frank died. That was terrible news for me. Like some really good friend has died. Thank you for doing a reaction on Frank's music! My suggestion for you: "Muffin Man" from the album "Bongo Fury". (Better than the video version on YT).
I was born December 3rd 1963 and I 100% agree with you. I listened to his music for a week straight and only his Music . I was devastated. Saw him live in 1982 for you are what you is Tour and to this day Best Concert I ever experienced .
Just be prepared: this is pretty much the straighest song Zappa ever wrote. You've got a lot of weirdness to look forward to if you dare go down this badger hole.
This is the second track of what is essentially a rock opera album. The first track, Central Scrutinizer, (the narrator of the story) sets the context. Zappa was a fierce opponent of the hysterical right-wing efforts to censure music content in the 1970s. The “explicit lyrics” warning label on album covers was a compromise, but if the evangelicals had their way, the same puritanical bleeping censorship used for commercial television broadcasts would have been applied to music as well. This album was Zappa making fun of them and their brand of evangelical fascism, providing a parody of their point of view as a cautionary tale for American youth on the moral dangers of pursuing a career…in [MUSIC]. It follows the story of Joe, who begins by innocently having a good time playing in the garage with his friends and how this brush with music triggers a spiral into depravity and sin. It is hilarious, irreverent, and full of really well produced and performed songs.
Dong work for yuda , Packard goose WM I EH , Green Rosetta , Muffin Man on Bongo Fury , everything interlaces like sofa #2 and Ya Hozna on them or us , just imagine are you hung up, I mean , are you hung up ,
Nope; there is an overall (multiple) message: don't trust some people in authority whether it is the police, church, business and government. He spoke out against fascism in American government and cautioned against the American theocracy. Search online for Frank's quotes and see that he was a visionary and foresaw much of the turmoil happening today. Zoot Allures is one of my favourite Zappa albums. Cheers all and as a Canadian, "Don't Eat Yellow Snow!".
I feel like Zappa took flack from listeners because of his style. The lyrics are often conversational, sometimes nonsensical. But how important is the meaning of the lyrics in the context of music? I can listen to a song performed in a foreign language and enjoy it.
It takes alot of times to hear frank when it comes time to hear frank. You definately will be busy for a lifetime. Welcome to the club. Theres no way out now! Youre tainted. Youve heard it.
The entire album(s) parts 1, 2, and 3 is an entire story of Joe's life in music. Good listen through from start to finish.
I swear I was going to say that!
This needs to be listened to, album by album, in order as it does tell an amazing tale.

Frank reminiscing about the joy and simplicity of a first garage band, and he nails it.
Perfectly nails it, anyone who has played in a band can relate to this, is so fun and quaint
The whole shit Zappa family, you can throw in the trash 🤣 🤣 🤣
Zappas shit music without sense sounds like diarrhea 🤣🤣🤣
Shit ugly Zappa was a boring asshole and his music too 🤣 🤣 🤣
Frank was a master musician and storyteller. Really smart too. 👍❤🤙
Genius of boring assholes 😂😂😂

The disgusting music by shit Zappa, makes you throw up 🤣 🤣

I can honestly say that about Thing-Fish. It falls apart. Maybe trying to be too ambitious putting out 90 minutes all at once.
This is from a three lp set that tells a story. A Zappa classic that will let you hear his true genius is "Watermelon In Easter Hay".
Love this song

Dude. What is going on?!?!?!? You have been off the radar FOREVER. So excited. THIS IS AWESOME!!!!

He used to be a nice boy, he used to cut the grass.

The Central Scrutinizer
(& Mary, & Sy Borg)
Some songs have emotional depth ... this has breadth .. real talent to this man ...
The liner notes mention music banned in Iran, not Afghanistan.
This albums predates the Taliban by several years.
Love your review! That layer thing is key in many of his music. Hope you will keep exploring his art.
Welcome to the UMRK (Utility Muffin Research Kitchen)
This is the Central Scrutinizer....You really should listen to the entire album....it is a concept piece
This album is a conceptual masterpiece. Its alot to take in but its worth it. You could do a song by song breakdown of this whole album.
Thumbs up for the Bjork t-shirt alone.

Frank and the Central Scrutinizer telling stories. One of Zappa's funnest songs, besides "Catholic Girls".
Finish the Album, all songs in order, it will blow your mind. It is a fantastic story. You will also laugh a lot, and be embarrassed a few times too.
This album is awesome 👍
This album is pure gold!!! You might find yourself overwhelmed on occasion ;-)
Catholic Girls, Crew Slut, Keep It Greasey ..... next stop on this album masterpiece
Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?
Listen to "Catholic Girls" & "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee" From the Joe's Garage album
there's so much Zappa out there, and they're suggesting this?
ha ha 1st song on the LP ... and it's a long one, it's worth checking it all out.
Another great choice
you need to listen to the whole album
🤣 RIP Frank! I miss him.
Zappa would write (yes, he wrote notatoon) using the music theory of compartmentalism. Nice example.

That miniatyre guitar gets my attension. But lets go on.
Doo Wop Zappa.
Musical Genius Mr. Frank Zappa.
My all time favorite 🎸 Guitarist/Lyricist and Composer.
His son Dweezil is phenominal live.
Good shirt
one song goes into the next song.....great story
I wonder if Brad would be able to get through anything from Thing-Fish.
John's got a sausage
Dog you paused in the best lyric

Dude, listen to the full album. Record the 2 hours

You need to know and understand the rules in art before you start breaking them.
Zappa was a musical genius who knew the rules, and how to break them.

So we picked out a stupid name
How long did it take you to memorize your fake Analysis? 😂
