"it may dispel the magic but that rock is real" is the funniest thing ive read in my life
Oh sure when Caria creates a spell that lets you turn sorceries against the user it’s considered smart.
But when Thops creates a barrier capable of deflecting the most powerful forms of magic that stems from outer gods including spells used by god itself he’s considered a “blunt stone”
They hated him because he spoke the truth
He is like the many talented people that don’t get recognition for their hard work in their lives and only get it after their life
Post mortem victory
cuz the spell fkn sucks, carian retaliation actually gives you offensive capabilities, is almost instant and uses fp only on successful deflects. while Thop's takes time to cast, doesn't work on multiple projectiles and if the spell lingers you still gonna get hit once the barrier is off, literally better to roll in every scenario
@@felixalcatraz7489 Thop's barrier is chargeable which allows you to deflect more projectiles.
I really hope we get an upgraded version in the DLC, like Thops' Legacy, where we have to stay still to constatly cast a constant barrier in the expense of FP, like comet azur, but a barrier. This would be niche, buy good for bosses that uses lots os projectiles like Elden Beast, Rennala and Rykard second phase (which I just learned we could deflect the phantoms lol, it looks so badass)
I'd absolutely love that, it's very unlikely we will, but it's a great idea
Woulda been nice to get something a little LESS niche but its one of many baffling choices with this game's spells, which range from brokenly overpowered to utterly useless--including whole classifications of spells where every option is mediocre at best and boss tier multi-memory slot spells that are outclassed by regular spells.
Frieren's basic defensive barrier.
We do have cherishing fingers
@@davidhong1934 Not constant, no chain cast. It takes a lot of time to cast and the recovery animation basically leaves you open for attacks, the multiprojectiles of Elden Beast could just obliterate you.
It looks like the Elden Beast sword waves do get deflected, but their hitbox is so big that they clip your head on the way past lol
Would it be possible to cast barrier while crouching to dodge the waves?
I think that you automatically go out of crouch mode when you do that.@@ETBrooD
That's such an elden beast thing lmao
being able to deflect Destined Death is literally Mindboggling to me
why ?
Ranni should have given this to rykard
@@andrei-cezarbleaje5519Because imagine parrying the manifestation of death,
@@rrovbaliterally just said Nuh Uh to the reaper
@@andrei-cezarbleaje5519 it's 'destined' death. Bro said 'fuck destiny. Imma parry it'
after you complete Thops's Barrier quest, scarab spawns there and u can put Thops's Barrier on a shield btw no need to cast
Elden Beast: impossible, he is deflecting my power.
Godfrey: try it on me foolish warrior.
cant block rocks but can block literal death rune magic lmao i love it
I mean, the rocks are that, rocks. Radhan just pulls some rocks from the ground using magic and throws it, while Maliketh literally pulls them from the ground with his bare hands and throws them.
well it's called magic barrier for a reason and not physical barrier for a reason...
@@ordinaryfellow9093 That would be a shield.
I mean most gravity attacks count as physical damage especially the meteorite ones.
@@rafsandomierz5313 well you just have to see how is the attack if is only purple waves or if is rocks that is obviously physical damage like rock sling ,meteorite , meteorite of astel and the new blades of stone.
I don’t see anyone mentioning this but if you had the maximum casting speed (radagon icon + lazur staff) you will be able to chain cast faster and be immune to more spells rather than taking a few points of damage between casting
Evn faster with the new talisman from the dlc. Just have to deal with rakshasa levels of damage negation
@@picklejho69casting speed buffs only stack to a certain point because they use virtual dex, capped at 70 dex, so the staff+icon is the same speed as that talisman
What talisman is it?@@picklejho69
Makes sense that the spell can't stop spells that look like phyiscal projectiles, like the gravity, beast claw or the fire rocks from the giant.
Sure, you may stop the spell that was making the rock move at a high speed, but the rock is still moving without the magic, it just don't remain accelerated.
and a rock that's moving 200 km an hour is still a rock moving 200 km an hour, regardless of it the spell works or not.
Yea i imagine that they decided to test it on something small so someone threw a rock at it and it didnt do shit. So thats why everyone consiers thops shit and didnt give it a second chance lol
i wish there was a storyline where you could help thops in his studies or something
I used this spell to get past the bubblestorm giant oracle that snipes you from the other side of the map on the Haligtree. Just spammed it and breezed through the golden bubbles.
The Thops barrier ash of war has a faster activation, the size of the shield depends on efficiency for timing. But, I just slap it on a small shield and it works amazingly. Obviously it doesn't work on continuous spells like beams or or multi projectile spells. Pairs really well with zero magic builds
And it's free?
@funguy398 yes, you mist give the spare academy glintstone key to thops at the church of Irith, rest then return and there will be a glintstone scarab where thops was. That has the ash for thops barrier
@@funguy398 it's not free. it costs FP
It doesn't cost fp
@@paracame8162 Wiki says it doesn't use FP
Step 6.5: Kill this dog - hilarious. Elden Ring dogs are the worst
LOL! Against Rancor was freaky and hilarious. The skulls just pausing as if to say, "We can wait."
Great video man, thank you! Will try this next time I fight Elden Beast!
It's here we see the fly in the ointment for Thop's Barrier: most spells have such aggressive tracking that they hit you anyways. Wish it had that little something extra to make it worth using :(
Malikeths projectiles might be easy to dodge but ngl that looks way cooler gonna try it on my next play through. Also gonna try the blasphemous claw parry haven’t used it even tho I’ve had it in my inventory in past play through lmao
Why didn’t you hold it for more casts to block the follow up spells?
Specifically at the beginning
You could hold it?
@@diegocantu9853yea it’s repeatable. Like glintstone pebble
Havent seen the whole video yet but I think your suppossed to hold the cast button down and your character keeps pinging the block
that's done in the video
It deflects magical beams, not giant rocks
That means Morgott's holy knives are actual, physical knives
Man is carrying an entire arsenal of tree spears, kitchen knives, and swords under that cloak
@@davidhong1934imean he can manifest his physical form (margit and the one on leyndell, as well as the mogh of the sewers) so it makes sense that the knifes, spears and swords he makes are physical
@@davidhong1934 Morgott is badass like that
hey! it can stop rykards rancor... until you run out of fp and die!
I recognize that queen of passion bgm thats rad
This is very useful content 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 i doubt i can pull that tho, I'm bad at timing.
I feel like this spell would be so much cooler if bosses and enemies also had limited FP.
But how would that work for anything else? Like if you just kept blocking until they ran out, and they’re stuck with hitting you with a sword normally.
@@TheManDude That about sums it up, yes. Of course, the disparity between the player and enemy FP should be as great as their health, but if a player can preserve let them be rewarded for their perseverance.
@@vadandrumist1670 I feel as if a stamina bar would be more balanced, so they can’t just run out of spells, but if they use too much, they need to stand still and be vulnerable.
@@TheManDude You say they can't just run out of spells, but why not? The player certainly can, so is there an argument that can be made for why the bosses should have infinite FP that doesn't apply to the player? Let the player be rewarded for managing their defense and surviving what is currently an endless onslaught of spectacular attacks, the same way FP reliant players would be disadvantaged once they run out.
That's a dumb idea
Good content👍 I'll try this on Maliketh
You know, I think I owe Thops an apology for calling him worthless. But honestly eternal darkness is Thop's barrier but better not to mention the moon spells also block spells and weaken the enemy to subsequent spells. I'll stop calling him worthless and call him trash instead.
Okay so I've never used this spell before but can someone sell me on it? Because after watching this video it looks decidely not-very-useful. It seems like if you don't time your cast very well you still end up having to dodge whatever you've deflected anyway, and it doesn't recover as quickly as rolling, plus it still uses stamina and also FP. So I'm failing to see a scenario where using it is ever going to be better than just rolling?
Dispel magic got a nerf smh..
Fr killing the dog at level 6 would’ve been rough 😂 I got the dragon on the bridge to float in the air till he died so I could get like 40 int 😂
Dogs IRL: :D
Dogs In Elden Ring: D:
Poor Thops is underappreciated 😢.
Oh, I thought you would use the aoW... very well, this might be interesting too.
it reminds me of gojo's infinty
11:49 what the FUCK is the fire ricochet?? Man why did they make fire physics so dog shit in this game
Ok but consider this? Why not just roll. I like thops barrier so much in concept but, like a parry, it looks like you have to have the timing to start casting like a second before x attack hits, or else the barrier isnt timed right. Whereas a roll gives you i frames like immediately and usually moves you out of any splash damage. Idk i just don't see a genuine benefit 😭
it's just the coolness factor. in practicality, Carian Retaliation works better and you can just roll for attacks you can't absorb
Thops barrier is great for the projectile-spam-sandwich that is the Elden Beast, especially when it starts using multiple projectile attacks at once.
Why use sword when you have bow?
@@rafsandomierz5313 bosses don't input read the bow
@@leonardo9259 Just time your shooting time right when they are during an attack.
Or use ash of war.
Now do Carian retaliation
Try golden retallion bro it’s better
useless spell
