Nice VBM in the first slide! Of course the rest of the ads are great too. I think the old advertisements are just as interesting as the topics you discuss. There is just something about those old ads. Anything you might find in print now or in recent years just lacks soul.
The old Axelson lathe and the Brown & Sharpe mill here have that soul of the past heavy industry but have standard spindles and high enough speed for carbide. The radial drill fit right in with the other 2 "Timkenized" machines. Heavy duty machines that have that roller bearing Roar. It startles those that are not used to it.
Agreed. I've got a pile of Popular Mechanics from the 40s and 50s. The ads are fascinating. Love the ones of Dad sitting by the open fire, pipe in mouth, while the young kid plays on the floor with his model steam engine or erector set. A throwback to simpler times.
Don I have a Moore rotary table that came with a #3 jig bore. It came very hard to turn. Should I try running kerosene then grease thru it before trying to take it apart?
Thanks for the heads up as always Don, keep on keeping on buddy 👍
I think I have some interesting odd mechanical stuff from the thrilling days of yesteryear coming up.

Good advise Don.
Hi, thanks!
Good morning Don…good to see you doing well, Paul
Hi Paul, I had to take a break from cleaning up my machine shack. Hope you are doing well.
Don, I think I have the same dividing hear can you tell me where is the brown and sharp markings???
This one has a round badge, I think earlier ones may not have markings except possibly numbered to the machine it came with.

That is what I do first, kerosene is compatible with regular machine oils.
Thanks Don. 🙂
